If you’ve read my fantasy premier league team structure article you’ll know I talked about defensive and midfield lineups and home and away rotation. Here’s some team options for rotation and some player suggestions to help you put your first draft team together
fantasy premier league starting 11 – home/away defence and midfield rotation options
In my recent article – “some thoughts on team structure” I talked about some ways of structuring your defence and midfield.
Here were the options based on 3-4-3:
1. Defence – 1 top 4 challenging defensive player plus 2 pairs of 2 cheap defenders who rotate home and away. Ideally you would want your rotations to be £4.0m each. £4.5m would be more realistic but £5.0m would be the absolute maximum and to be avoided if possible
2. Defence – 2 top 4 challenging defensive players plus 3 cheapie defenders. Much more price scope. The 3 rotations should all be £4.5m maximum.
3. Midfield – 3 big hitters and 2 rotating cheapie midfielders. £5.0m would be the maximum
4. Midfield – 4 midfielders and 1 very cheap midfielder who has secure gametime. £4.5m is the target.
There’s also 3-5-2 where a cheap midfielder and a cheap striker rotate
In this article I’m going to concentrate on options 1 and 3 and outline some teams that rotate home and away. I’ll then suggest some player options. Just remember it’s very early to suggest players as transfers, injuries and pre-season form have so far to go and could change suggestions now. I’ll deal with cheapie midfielders and defenders which don’t require pairs for option 2 and 4 later when lineups are more settled. If you read my pre-season match articles they will also discuss lineups
Here’s how the article will be structures. I’ll be looking at the options by team, reviewing their home record last season, outline the fixtures resulting and then give some player options for defence. I’ll do midfield and forwards if they exist.
Stoke and Swansea
13/14 home defence: Stoke 7 home clean sheets. Swansea 6 clean sheets.
First 10 fixtures. I don’t distinguish between which team plays.
Villa H, Burnley H, WBA H, Leicester H, Southampton H, Newcastle H, Newcastle H, Swansea H, Leicester H, West Ham H
Defence: Stoke: Cameron is your £4.5m option. Swansea unfortunately are a £5.0m option only with Chico looking the best option.
Midfield: Only NZonzi for £5.0m for Stoke and no one realistic for Swansea
Summary:
Good fixtures but not the cheapest of rotation pairs. with Cameron at £4.5m and Chico at £5.0m the best options.
Palace and QPR
13/14 home defence: Palace had 8 home clean sheets. QPR had 10 in the Championship
First 10 Fixtures:
Hull H, West Ham H, Sunderland H, Burnley H, Stoke H, Leicester H, Hull A, Chelsea A, Villa H, Sunderland H
Defenders: Palace: Ward is the safest. Marriapa if he makes the starting lineup is £4.5m. QPR: Simpson £4.5m
Midfield: Palace: Jedinak at £5.0m is the only choice. He takes pens is the only positive. QPR: Only Hoilett at £5.0m if he plays
Fwds for 3-5-2: Murray or Chamkh at £5.5m for Palace if they start
Summary:
Good fixtures. Ward at £5.0m and Simpson at £4.5m are the best options. Watchout for Palace’s Mariappa at £4.5m.
Burnley and Hull
13/14 home defence: Burnley had 11 Championship home clean sheets. Hull had 8 home clean sheets
First 10 fixtures:
QPR A, Stoke H, Villa A, West Ham H, Sunderland H, WBA A, Palace H, West Ham H, Everton H, Southampton H,
Defenders: Burnley: Trippier £5.0m is the attacking option. Duff is the £4.0m option and Shackhill the £4.5m. They both need preseason gametime checks. Hull: Rosenior and Chester are both £4.5m
Midfield: Too difficult at the moment to give any options
Summary:
Good fixtures. Good options as well if Duff and Shackhill of Burnley look starters
Leicester and Southampton
13/14 home defence: Leicester 9 clean sheets Southampton: 7 home clean sheets
First 10 fixtures:
Everton H, WBA H, West Ham A, Newcastle H, Swansea A, QPR H, Burnley H, Sunderland H, Stoke H, WBA H
Defenders: Leicester: De Laet £4.5m Southampton: Clyne £5.0m Chambers at £4.5m if he can get into the side
Midfielders: Leicester King £4.5m or Albrighton £4.5m if he can get into the side Southampton; Davis £5.0m
Forward for 3-5-2: Nugent £5.5m
Summary:
Reasonably good fixtures and De Laet and Clyne/Chambers are good cheap options
Palace and West Ham
13/14 home records: Palace had 7 home clean sheets. West Ham 7 home clean sheets
First 10 fixtures:
Spurs H, West Ham H, Southampton H, Burnley H, Everton A, Leicester H, QPR H, Burnley H, Everton H, Leicester H, QPR H, Burnley H, WBA A, Sunderland H
Defenders: Ward at £5.0m is the safest. Marriapa if he makes the starting lineup is £4.5m. West Ham: Demel at £5.0m. Although Reid at £5.0m gives more attacking and bonus possibilities. Collins at £4.5m if he can make the team
Midfielders: Palace: Jedinak at £5.0m at least takes pens. No West Ham player
Summary:
2 strong defensive teams with defensively minded managers. Fixtures are reasonable. Defensive options are a bit expensive though
Newcastle and Sunderland
13/14 home defences: Newcastle had 6 home clean sheets. Sunderland had 6 home clean sheets
First 10 fixtures:
WBA A, Villa A, Palace H, Spurs H, Hull A, Swansea H, Stoke H, Leicester H, Spurs A, Palace A
Defenders: Newcastle: Coloccini £4.5m. Dummett and S Taylor are £4.0m if they can get into the team Sunderland: O’Shea £4.5m
Midfielders: no options
Summary:
Good cheap options and because of the geography a permanent solution. Trouble is the fixtures for at least the first 10 are poor.
Hope that gives you some food for thought in putting your teams together.
