Firstly here’s the team. In the end after a lot of thought I did no transfers. I’ll talk you through that plus the team selection, formation and captain pick below the team
The (no) transfer
So firstly yes your eye’s aren’t deceiving you I am playing 5-3-2! I’ll come back to that but first I’ll go through the transfer decision or as it ended up the lack of transfer. With the Spurs, Chelsea, Leicester and QPR blank coming up plus still no announcement on Chelsea and Leicester for DGW28 to add to Spurs and QPR it seemed the flexibility of 2 transfers for GW27 would be invaluable. The obvious transfer that I did mull over was Giroud for Costa. However it would have taken a 4 point hit to get it although I could have done it and got rid of Gardos for say Bruce which I will probably do anyway and maybe have to do a hit to get it. However the negatives of that transfer were that it would have cost that 4 point hit and also mean I have 4 players who wouldn’t play in GW27 costing me another 2 points. The other factor was Costas 8 yellow cards and the thought that if he got 1 against Burnley it makes him a big risk for both games in DGW28. I also got the impression going around the other sites that most people are also adopting this strategy of not putting Costa in this gameweek. I know that doesn’t sqaure with the transfers in but that doesn’t necessarily correlate to the managers around 20k where I am. Add to that the fact that Aguero, Kane and Hazard are also good captain options this week should dilute the captain points risk of Costa. I’m not sure at this stage if Aguero is ruled out whether that would change things but I doubt it. As far as fielding a full team. I have Bellerin and Aguero as doubts but have Puncheon and Boyd on the bench who should play so no need to transfer to put out a full team
Team selection and formation
Although I went into the situation with my eyes open having all 5 defenders playing at home when I did the transfers and then all 5 playing away doesn’t make things easy. However I went for what I thought were the best defensive teams rather than forcing a rotation home and away when the balance between home and away clean sheets wasn’t as expected anyway with a number of teams. Things have slightly changed and this week is when 4/5 play at home. So the choice was simple. Bellerin, Terry and Clyne will probably always play home and away. Van Aanholt home to a defensive minded WBA was always going to start. So Gardos, who should line up for 1 more game before Bertrand is back from suspension, or Chadli or Puncheon was my only decision. Well Chadli started in midweek against Fiorentina and hasn’t started the last 3 PL games so despite the attractive West Ham home fixture he had to be benched as unlikely to start. So Gardos at home to Liverpool vs Puncheon home to Arsenal was the final decision. Well here’s Liverpools last 4 away games some of which include Sturridge.

EVE(A) 0-0
Although they scored in 3/4 none were a goal fest so given Puncheon has moved wide and hasn’t returned in his last 3 (which included Newcastle and Leicester) then I’ve gambled on Gardos given Southamptons outstanding defensive home record.
So thats how it came about. Quite bizzare. I can honestly say I can’t remember the last time I played 5-2-3, if ever!
The captain selection
Time should be permitting so I will do a captain article of the full nature looking at Aguero, Hazard, Costa and Kane. My default though especially at home against lower placed opposition is going to be Aguero even if the team and himself have had some problems getting around the oppostions bus in their penalty area in recent matches. Watch this space to see if it changes. I’ve got Hazard as vice but in retrospect I may change that to Kane as having Aguero as an injury doubt with Barca midweek coming up and Hazard having played midweek in the Champions league then Kane who was on the bench against Fiorentina removes the double captain no show risk even if Hazard would be my natural no 2.
So thats the team. If there are any changes as thoughts about it distract everyday life then I’ll at the very least tweet and facebook it
