Here’s our fantasy premier league team selection for gameweek 4.  It’s just a team for gameweek 4, No other fixtures are taken into account it’s just for gameweek 4.  Whatever transfer you are planning on there’s nothing like the prospect of a potential immediate boost in the first game they play in.  This team just for GW4 could sway you in your final transfer decision

Firstly here’s the team.  I’ve put some narrative against each player but I’ve been brief given that most will be in my “ones to watch” articles.  Remember I’m not trying to fit into a budget.  It’s the best players irrespective of price and the total expenditure.  It’s way way over budget but just an illustration of individual players.  I normally do this on Friday night so I’ll try and keep an eye on the press conferences to see if anything comes out which effects any of the players gametime prospects

De Gea

With only 1 clean sheet despite a pretty kind schedule in the first 3 games you could be wondering why I’ve started with part of the United defence.  You’re banking on Rojo, Blind and Shaw being fit to strengthen the defence.  However with QPR only scoring 1 goal in the first 3 games and losing their main threat in Remy you have to give Man Utd a decent chance of a clean sheet.  Ive picked De Gea due to certainty of selection and the fact that he’s £0.5m cheaper than Rojo.

Lloris

2 clean sheets for Spurs, although even those games and certainly the Liverpool game showed that everything isn’t quite right.  For Sunderland 3 goals in 2 games isn’t a bad start but when your lone striker is Fletcher then you really haven’t got the greatest threat.  Pochettino had a great defensive record with Southampton and he could do that to tje Sours defence.  Lloris as with injuries and the sheer number of defenders then Lloris is an oasis of gametime security.

Ivanovic

Chelsea haven’t been their normal secure self at the back and Swansea have looked strong going forward but with Ivanovic you have a so called defender in rampaging attacking form to help derisk those factors

Liverpool

Incredibly it took a defence completely different to last year with 2 youngsters at fullback to put in one of the few decent defensive performances against Spurs that weve seen from Liverpool. With 3 goals in their first 3 games despite not having Benteke fit Villa haven’t started too badly.  However you have to give Liverpool a reasonably good chance of a clean sheet on their last performance.  Lovren is slightly more expensive at £5.5m than Manquillo £5.0m but is probably worth the extra cash for goal and bonus potential

Clyne

Southamptn have been generally impressive and that includes the defence.  They may have conceded 3 goals so far but that really doesn’t accurately represent their defensive performances.  Newcastle had 2 blanks before 3 goals against Palace and while they have looked ok going forward I’m rating Soutrhampton as a decent chance of a clean sheet.  I’ve gone for Clyne as the attacking option who’s the same price as the rest of the secure parts of the defence

Davies

Only 1 clean sheet and 2 conceded but Hull are a decent propostion on their home ground defensively.   I’m always a little sceptical about Big Sam’s sattacking revolution and any attack led by Carlton Cole (although Valencia could start to be fair).  With Robertson potentially injured and still no guarantee that 3-5-2 will continue then there’s no guaranteed £4.5m player so I’ve gone for the security of Curtis Davies

Stoke

Leicester were impressive against the much vaunted Chelsea defence despite not scoring but Stoke are an impressive unit defensively at home and shouldn’t be discounted after the Villa loss.  Especially after keeping City from scoring at the Etihad.  I’ve chosen Wilson for his value.  At £4.5m he’s cheaper than the rest of the defence.

Sterling

In great form with 2 goals in 3 games you have to bank on him him producing the goods against Villa.  Villa have tightened the defence but Sterlings central positioning  should involve him in all the action.  Even if Rodgers reverts to a front 3 he will still be in the attacking 3

Fabregas

If Hazard wasn’t a slight injury doubt I probably would have gone for him as the original flat track bully.  However the injury doubt means that I’ve gone for Fabregas who’s started by returning in every game.  Albeit all assists.  Swansea have made a great start but we shouldn’t forget that an ordinary Burnley had them on the rack for long periods despite losing.  Their defence was pretty ordinary last season and it’s arguably weaker this season.

Sanchez

It’s easy to forget with his start being desribed as underwhelming, combined with the rampaging form of Ramsey, that he has actually got a goal and an assist in his first 2 games and scored in Europe.  He’s also had excellent shooting and creating chances stats.  With Ramsey looking a serious doubt to start this looks like the big occaison which could ignite Sanchez’s season.  Lets not forget his talent and an excellent World Cup.  The City defence hasn’t looked as secure as you would expect with 1 clean sheet in the first 3 and there could easily be goals here

Di Maria

United have generally been very disappointing in attack this season but the attacking talent in the team now is extraordinary.  Add to that how absolutely woeful QPR were defensively against Spurs and you have to think that there is the serious prospect of goals here.  The addition of Falcao has to make us seriously wary of whether Mata will now even start so I’ve turned my attention to Di Maria as the attacking midfield force.  His goal scoring record in La Liga wasn’t great with only 4 goals in 34 games although he did bag a pretty impressive 18 assists.  The days that a position next to the CDM was a no go area seems to have left FPL and he made a number of breaks forward to give us attacking hope.

Tadic

When Crystal Palace get 3 goals against you and when someone who barey played last season comes on for 20 minutes and absolutely rips you to pieces then you really need to question yourself defensively.  Southampton were exccelent against Liverpool and especially West Ham from an attacking point of view.  The fact that WBA were able to park the bus for a clean sheet is the only shadow on their attack so far.  Tadic only has an assist to show for his excellent performances to date and his luck must turn for more at some stage.

Ballotelli

Started well against Spurs getting the chances even if he did miss good ones.  He showed good application and attitude and it bodes well for a the Villa game as the focal point of the attack.  An FPL point every 13.6 minutes in his successful season with Man City shows he can do it in the premier league.

Costa

What can you say after 4 goals in his first 3 games.  We’ll be listening to the press conference of Mourinho regarding his hamstring injury but the indications are he should be ok

Falcao

With Rooney probably moving back to a number 10 position unless LVG plays 4-3-3 the it’s between RVP and Falcao for the United forward representation.  I could have gone for either to be honest but I’ve plumped for Falcao as I’m sure he will be desperate to impress in his first game and his goal scoring record is phenomenel.  28 goals in 34 games for A Madrid in 12/13 speaks for itself.  His injury recovery is a concern but he has played 120 minutes in 3 games for Monaco this season scoring 2 goals so that gives some comfort.
