Firstly here’s the team.  The transfer was Pedro out to Payet.

The Transfer

Although things change rapidly in FPL before this week I probably had 4 priorities.  Payet, Lukaku in GW11 where Everton start a good run of fixtures,  Moreno who is cheap value for a Liverpool defender and an Arsenal defender.  I hope the Arsenal defender is the cheap Gabriel when he gets fit and hopefully back in the team.  I wanted to avoid a hit especially for a defender as well.

So really it was just a case  of how I did that.  Gabriel is still injured and I couldnt afford another Arsenal defender anyway so that was the end of that.  Lukaku is a GW11 target and away to Arsenal in GW10 so no need for that.  Therefore it became a choice between Moreno and Payet.  Moreno was home to Southampton who have been inconsistent away from home although the last result away 3-1 at Chelsea was very impressive.  Liverpool also played on Thursday in the Eiropa League which giving the pressing nature of the team now could be a performance issue against Southampton who rested midweek.  Then Liverpool are at Chelsea so it doesn’t seem an immediate requirement.  The main reason to do it now is gametime risk to Darmian and Kolarov which to be fair is real.  There are a number of reasons not to do Payet this week.  Firstly West Ham are against a Chelsea team focusing on defence and Payet also played out on the left last week so that limits his threat a bit.  There’s also a hint of over performance given he’s scored 5 goals without any shooting stats, 2 of which were rebouds.  Also West Hams fixtures now take a turn for the worse generally.  So if there ever was a time to not transfer him in it’s now.  However, the main reason to do the transfer is that I’m sick of his points hurting my ranking each week.  He’s owned by around 70% of the top 10k so every point widens my gap to that threshold.  He’s also owned by 50% of the top 10 FPL managers I follow so for the chasing pack he’s also well represented.  The other point is that West Ham are away to Watford next week and given that I wanted to transfer in Lukaku then if I didn’t do it this week then it would mean not having him against Watford or taking a hit.  Neither particularly excited me.  So I’ve decided to just cover off the problem and Pedro’s injury gives me the opening.  Should I be doing that given my rank of 472k?  Should I be going for a fixture/differential play such as Wijnaldum?  Maybe.  Certainly it’s one thing to play conservatively and edge your way up the rankings through the odd differential, the defence and captain choices when youre around 100k at this stage it’s another when you’re as far back as I am.  However it’s still early and I’m not panicking/ failing to adapt depending on your view!

So next week I have enough cash for Lukaku which will probably be my transfer next week.

Team selection

The one thing that injuries do give you is less selection dilemmas and such is the case here. With Gomez injured and Targett dropped now that Bertrand is fit then the defence selects itself.  The only choice realistically was between Payet home to Chelsea and Shaqiri who’s home to Watford.  It seemed stupid to transfer Payet in and then not play him and such is Shaqiri’s form that it made the decision easier.  Payet starts.

The captain choice

My choice at the moment is Alexis Sanchez.  However I’m doing a captain article next so that may change things.
