fantasy premier league team selection tips – FFGeek 4th draft team

Fantasy Premier League, Preseason

With a week to go here’s our 4th draft team. However it’s by no means settled and won’t be until Saturday morning next week I imagine.   I’ll talk through the changes and selection issues  plus what I’ll be lookiong out for in the last week to GW1.  The team updates will be very regular from now on.

So just to set the scene there will be loads more changes before next week I feel given the amount of tinkering I did to get back to the team I practically started with.

Again no Aguero or Sanchez due to the Copa America and it seems inevitable they won’t play in GW1.

I’m also planning on using the wildcard after GW4 opens for the team value increase at the International break but the team is built so if I changed my mind I wouldn’t need to.  To add to that I’m planning on using the 3 chips in the second half of the season when there’s potential double gameweeks.

Any way here’s the team with the changes plus some narrative  on the selection dilemmas

Changes

Firstly the changes:

Benteke out Pelle in

Chadli out – Siggy in

The Benteke change is due to the dounts over whether he will be match fit enough to start.  It leaves me no Liverpool player and I did think about Milner or Henderson instead of Siggy but I just dont feel comfortable with players in the 3 of 4-3-3 or the 2 of 4-2-3-1 (or whatever formation Rodgers coin toss decides on for that game).  Pelle has great fixtures and hopefully his Europa League goal and those previously in pre-season have helped his confidence after the barren spell at the end of last season.

Chadli out Siggy in.  Although Chadli started the last 12 games last season he still feels like a bit of a gametime risk and his ridiculous penalty concede didn’t help the situation that’s for sure.  Siggy is the attacking hub of the Swansea team as a CAM with free kicks.  Gomis being doubtful though is a worry and their schedule could be better so there needs some thought.  My preference would be Mane who’s just that little bit more expensive but 2 Southampton would have been too much anyway.

Ok before we get any further lets do an ownership check

Ownership

Here’s my end of season post for 2014/15 on strategy to cut and paste into a new tab rather than debate the merits of ownership in this article

fantasy premier league strategy – a review after the end of season

Here’s the 4 players with ownership over 30%:

Hazard – 55% essential for me.

Clyne – £43% – some good home fixtures but I was thinking of covering the defensive element with GK Mignolet whos only £5.0m

Kane – 34%  He certainly looked sharp against the MLS all stars and scored a great goal.  I did a few teams with him in but struggled to get him and Mane in as I do think one of Pelle or Mane is a good option

Rooney – 32%  To me as the focal point of the attack he’s a great option.  I have thought about Depay as an alternative which would free up some serious cash but just think Rooney as a striker is so proven and as you will see I need him as a reliable captain option.

Lets look at my team ownership:

Myhill 2%, Hennessey 6%, Francis 4%, Azpili 20%, Clyne 43%, Huth 3%, O’Shea 13%, Walcott 8%, Silva 13%, Hazard 55%, Siggy 9%, Surman 0%, Pelle 13%, Rooney 32%, Wilson 5%

As last week quite low which means it has potential to get a very good or bad ranking which makes me a tad nervous.

So my ownership players are Hazard, Clyne and Rooney

The core proven and reliable players

These are the base of my midfield in Walcott, Silva Hazard and Siggy.  These were all captured in my article to copy and paste into a new tab.Walcott will very much depend on the Community Shield game

fantasy premier league – the proven and reliable

They are all proven performers so if I don’t use my wildcard for GW4 then I have a consistent base.

The fixture players

2 players solely based on fixtures in the team.  They are Wilson of Bournemouth and Pelle of Southampton

Here’s Pelle’s fixtures:

Newcastle (A)
Everton (H)
Watford (A)
Norwich (H)
West Brom (A)
Man Utd (H)

Here’s Wilsons fixtures:

Aston Villa (H)
Liverpool (A)
West Ham (A)
Leicester (H)
Norwich (A)
Sunderland (H)

The Cheap fillers

These haven’t changed since last week so I’ll just copy and paste that part of the post:

I have 3 defenders at £4.5m who rotate reasonably well.  I didn’t pick them specifically based on the rotation possibilities but chose 3 teams with £4.5m defs that are gametime secure and have defences I believe in at least for that price.

Here’s how they rotate for the first 6 games:

GW1 – Bournemouth home to A Villa

GW2 – Sunderland home to Norwich

GW3 – Sunderland home to Swansea

GW4 – Bournemouth home to Leicester

GW5 – Leicester home to Villa

GW6 – Bournemouth home to Sunderland

£4.5m Bournemouth midfielder Surman looks a good bet for the 5th midfield spot without being a card magnet and with some attacking potential

Captain considerations

Here’s how the captain options would look until gameweek 4 when Aguero comes into the team at home to Watford

Gameweek 1 – Hazard home to Swansea

Gameweek 2 – Rooney away to Villa

Gameweek 3 – Rooney home to Newcastle

The watchouts over the coming week

Walcott

The Community Shield is crucial here.  Will he play and if so as a striker.  Even with the Sanchez coming back risk Walcott is just too deadly to ignore

Siggy

Really would prefer Gomis to start

O’Shea

Just want to be sure the preffered CBs aren’t Coates and Kaboul

By the way here’s the team I got to with Kane in it.  Was ok execpt I had to get a £4.0m def which doesn’t appeal especially as Leicester and Sunderland dont rotate well
