Firstly here’s the team and some narrative below:

Transfers

No you aren’t seeing things and yes I have put Pedro back in my team and taken a 4 point hit for the pleasure of doing so.  I really should have kept Pedro in and got Benteke in through Darmain last week.  Still you’ve got to admire my courage for admitting when I got it wrong I guess.

Here’s the transfer for the avoidance of doubt:

Silva City mid injured and out for Pedro

Benteke Liverpool forward injured and out for Martial of Man Utd

-4 points to follow

With Silva and Benteke ruled out with injury and with gametime doubts of a number of my defence then a 4 point hit was inevitable.

The Martial choice was easy really.  With Benteke out for originally 2-3 weeks and then an indeterminate period he was definitely going.  With Martial having 500k transfers in and the captain favourite against the hapless Sunderland it seemed churlish to put anyone else in.  Having Benteke injured it seem the transfer was laid on a plate for me. Now I can watch the United game on the sofa rather than behind it and wake up on Sunday knowing a huge ranking drop is avoided in that regard anyway.  There were plenty of other options.  Ighalo, Gomis, Sakho but Martial was too tempting.

Dont get me wrong there are pluses and minuses.  On the plus side there’s a great fixture and he’s good value for someone leading the line for Man Utd.  On the negative side the fixtures afterwards aren’t great by any stretch, he’s 19 and unproven, his shot to goal ratio is totally unsustainable and Man Utd have one of the slowest, most laborious sideways passing attacks in the league.  Putting you off?

Pedro was a straight choice between him and Kevin De Bruyne.  My plan is to get De Bruyne for Sanchez if he fails again when Man City are home to Newcastle or get YYT instead of Shaqiri if Sanchez actually converts some of those thousands of shots in the box into goals against Leicester this gameweek.   I don’t have much time though to do the YYT to Shaqiri transfer as the funds leave me with little latitude of funds.

All this leaves me blissfully ignoring the problems in defence.  At least the Foster injury to December gives Myhill some breathing space unless Pulis suddenly decides that Lindegaard deserves a chance.  Targett and Gomez certainly seem to have their numbers up.  Darmain should be ok given that the rest of the United defence appears to be falling like flies.  So 3 defenders looks hopeful for this week at least although it’s questionable whether Richards is actually of any use anyway.

Team selection

Only issue is defence and the subs bench.  Myhill goes in without question.  Pulis can get clean sheets anywhere.

The defence I’ve started doing by clean sheet odds given how my own analysis seem to continually let me down.  Having said that I ignored it this week to some extent as it would have had Kolarov on the bench and there was no way this was happening.  So the odds favoured Man Utd, Liverpool, Southampton, City and Villa in that order.  Having said that I kept Richards ahead of Westwood as he seems to be a 2 point merchant at best.

Captain choice

If you read my captain choice article then you’ll see that Martial is the runaway captain choice.  I think everyone knows by now that I go with that and there seems little point in transferring him in and then not doing it given the fixtures afterwards.
