With the PFA team of the season out today I thought it was a good time to release the FFGeek fantasy premier league team of the season as well as the FFGeek let down team of the season

Firstly here’s the PFA team of the season:
Purely from a football perspective and not a fantasy perspective I would question why Ozil isn’t in there and also no Aguero is frankly ridiculous. I would also have Smalling over Morgan as I think the Leicester defence has been a collective thing rather than an individual effort. The LB position is a tricky one but there’s no overwhelming candidate against , maybe Monreal or Cresswell?
The FFGeek fantasy team of the season
Firstly this is a fantasy team not a real team so there’s no need for a LB or RB. I’ve also gone for a 3-4-3 with the core players being the best but 2 cheap defenders and 1 cheap midfielders as the best in the budget range.
Well it’s a quick reasoning rather than a load of stats.
Goalkeepers
The GK situation is a tricky one because you aren’t often rewarded for the premium GK. Thats shown by Mark Bunn of Villa having a better points per game than De Gea. Gomes has made 3 penalty saves. He’s also top of the points table as well as points per game for regular starters. His 21 point haul with 2 penalty saves in DGW34 is a sight to behold. I’m sure Butland would have been near Gomes apart from his injury and who can forget his run of clean sheets and remarkable saves.
Defenders
Not much needed to say here for Alderweireld, Bellerin and Smalling I think they were fairly obvious picks. I’ve gone for Simpson in the Leicester defence not due to bonus or attacking returns but just sheer value. Cook was a surprise considering the love for Charlie Daniels in the Bournemouth team but Cook’s recent goals have given him the best points total for the price range behind the Leicester boys.
Midfielders
To me there’s no need to explain the midfield. I didn’t include Sanchez due to his slow start and inconsistent patches. That was also my reasoning behind Firmino and Coutinho despite strong finishes. Antonio has been the standout cheapie for me.
Forwards
Can’t be any debate here surely?
The FFGeek let down team
This is a team of players who have been a horrible let down either through injury or poor form or both
Goalkeepers
GKs are different than the rest of the team as the premium keepers struggle a bit due to save points so I’ve picked 2 different players. McCarthy started the season as the £4.0m cheapie GK everyone wanted in their team and started the first 7 games or so. He then lost his place giving us no rotation option. As for Ruddy it seems impossible to believe people started with Ruddy and Rudd both from Norwich as the cheap defensive option.
Defenders
Kolarov didn’t do too badly in points per game but just could not hold a place to save his life. As for Baines, it says it all that there are 74 defenders with a better points per game than him. He returned a paltry 2 assists after being removed from penalties and pretty much set pieces not to mention losing his place. It seems harsh given his age to tarnish Terry for the hopeless Chelsea defence but 6 clean sheets in 20 starts and 1 goal isn’t great. Darmain started well and looked a great value attacking option. A couple of disastrous defensive performances saw him lose his place leaving effectively Smalling as the only expensive option.
Dont get me started on Moreno. So much attacking promise so little delivery. Then when everyone sells him for the DGW he gets a goal and an assist. Give me strength.
Midfielders
If I had to name a player for this team it would be the Hazard team. How can last years undisputed player of the year not even get into a poor Chelsea team. Unbelieveably he was everyones captain in GW1 home to Swansea. 1 goal and 4 assists this season after 14 goals and 10 assists in each of the 2 seasons prior to this one.
At least Silva had a decent start but its 1 goal and 5 assists since GW8 to total 1 goal and 11 assists. Thats after 12 goals and 12 assists last season
For Walcott and Ramsey injuries and inability to get into the team have seen a combined total of 10 goals and 8 assists this season. Walcotts 5 goals and 3 assists are a far cry from his 14 and 13 in the season 2012/13. Ramsey hasn’t fared quite as badly with 5 goals and 5 assists but it still well behind his memorable year of 10 goals and 9 assists in 2013/14.
As for Mane you could make a comedy reel of his misses for the season without needing a contribution from anyone else. If ever there was proof that great shooting stats don’t always mean goals this is it. His recent form just adds insult to injury.
The forwards
For Rooney who is a proven premier league goal scorer 7 goals and 5 assists just isn’t anywhere near good enough. At a rate of 20 minutes per point is very poor. This is someone who’s scored 27 and 26 goals in past seasons. This maybe the LVG world and not the Ferguson one but still.
Bony is a little unfair considering he is a reserve option but when given the chance he just hasn’t delivered. For someone who has always scored goals it’s been quite shocking to see his decline. You would expect when joining City given the chances that you would get that your minutes per FPL point would improve. However it’s gone backward from a 14.8 and 15.6 mins to 19.6 which is Cameron Jerome territory.
Costa at least has managed to get more goals than yellow cards if only by 11 to 8. However compare 11 to 20 last season and the 20 were scored in less minutes than played this season and you understand the underperformance.
