fantasy premier league – the captain choice game week 16

Fantasy Premier League

With United playing City and Everton at home to Spurs and Arsenal misfiring were in new territory for the fantasy premier league captain choice this week.  Its one of those position changing weeks where a significant amount of people could have a different captain.  Here’s a run down of some options.  Oh and Sunderland and Reading play twice

Sessegnon (Che H, Rdg H)

With Fletcher not guaranteed to play to me this is the only realistic fantasy premier league Sunderland option.  A home game to Chelsea is tricky with Benitez bound to look to shore things up after the disaster that was West Ham away but the other fixture is home to Reading which is probably the most fruitful fixtures of all the premier league games at the moment.  Lets face it even 4 points for turning up twice is a reasonable return in the context of this week.

He’s 8th in the last 6 shooting stats although that has been against the back drop of easy fixtures but it is a good start.  How has Sessegnon performed against captain qualifying opposition.

Wig H  5

Newc H  2

Avl  H  2

WBA  H  13

QPR  H  3

So pretty inconsistent and hardly a compelling case.  Its really the 2 games and Reading that give him any chance in this analysis

Michu  (Nor H)

3rd in the overall midfield shooting stats and 2nd in the last 6 despite a terrible fixture schedule now moves him in to the fixture proof category for me.  So lets look at his record in fantasy premier league against captain qualifying opposition.

West ham H  10

Sun H  7

Rdg  H  6

Wig H 8

WBA  H  8

Even RVP and Tevez would go wow to this form against the easier teams.  In the last rating the defences article I rated Norwich 10th so they are no mugs.  The most telling stat though is that since Chelsea played them and beat them 4-1 in game week 7 they have not conceded more than 1 goal in any game and have only conceded 4 in total in those 8 games including the Utd CS and the 1-1 draw away to Everton.  Again even RVP and Tevez would go wow to these stats.

So not ideal and its really whether you believe the attack or the defence will win the arm wrestle.

Berbatov (Newc A)

Hasn’t returned in his last 4 and not in the overall or last 6 shooting stats and the head creator Ruiz is out injured.   So why are you even mentioning him. The reason is easy the train wreck of a defence by the name of Newcastle.    I rated their defence 17th overall before last week although Colicinni back should help.

Here’s his returns against qualifying opposition

WBA H  13

Avl  H  2

Sun H  2

There’s no doubting his talent and finishing ability or the soft touch of the opposition its just not backed up by any evidence

Thats it thats all  I got.  So given the choice here’s my rating

1.  Sessegnon

2.  Michu

3.  Berba

I’ve got to say I need to sleep on my choice though as its not clear by any stretch so don’t be surprised if my team comes up with someone else

Here’s some discards in brief

RVP – Away to the best defence in the league?  He is RVP but its too big a leap of faith for me

Tevez – Utd arent the best of the elite teams in defence by any stretch but having played during the week can you even guarantee he will start?

Giroud/Wallcott/Cazorla – Can you trust anyone in the misfiring Arsenal team at the moment.

Fellaini – home to Spurs is just not where you should be looking for your captain choice

Le Fondre – Really things must be desperate when youre scratching around for Reading players even with 2 games.  If you’re this way inclined though Le Fondre is the only option

Anyway not sure if this has helped anyone but good luck anyway for game week 16
