fantasy premier league – thinking about Aguero

Fantasy Premier League

The Man City forward and talisman FPL £12.8m Sergio Aguero is back from suspension in fantasy premier league GW19.  We look at his stats, his captain prospects and the effect on our FPL teams in either having him or not

fantasy premier league – thinking about Aguero

HIS STATS

How good is he?  Lets look at some basic stats?

In FPL points per match he’s 5th behind Sanchez, Costa, Hazard and Mane.  Not great considering he’s £1m more expensive than the most expensive other player in FPL in Sanchez

On a per minute basis nothing changes except that Mane and Aguero are similar

On an underlying stats basis though its totally different.  In terms of shots in the box and shots on target Aguero totally murders everyone bar none.  Only Ibrahimovic produces numbers anything like his.  He’s just not converting them.

Is Aguero so good he’s above short term stats?  Certainly there’s a group of people who think so.

WHAT ABOUT THE CAPTAIN EFFECT?

One of the main factors put forward for getting Aguero in is his captain effect.  The worst captains to not have are those who can score big, have high ownership and are regular captain picks.  These players will hurt your rank hugely if you don’t have them and they score big.

So how does Aguero fit into this?

Of the 11 games he’s started he’s scored 10 points or more on 4 occasions.  Thats 36% which is impressive.  His ownership at the moment is only 17%. As only 56% of teams are active according to the excellent site FPL discovery most of those teams holding Aguero are probably not being managed.  While that will increase it hardly  compares to Costa’s 44% and Sanchez 37%

Will he be a regular captain pick?  Lets look at his fixture with potential alternative captain options

GW19 Liverpool (A)  or Hazard/Costa (h) v Stoke.  Sanchez (h) v C Palace   Ibra (h) v Middlesboro
GW20 Burnley (H) or Ibra (A) v West Ham.  Sanchez (A) v Bournemouth
GW21 Everton (A) or Sanchez (A) v Swansea
GW22 Spurs (H) or Ibra (A) v Stoke.  Sanchez (h) v Burnley
GW23 West Ham (A) or Sanchez (h) v Watford.  Ibra (h) v Hull

So the fixtures are mixed with the Captain alternatives ok.  The game that is the scariest is GW20 home to Burnley

IBRAHIMOVIC V COSTA V KANE

Unless you want to completely annihilate the rest of your team you’re probably having to choose 2 of the above 3 for your forward line.

Ibrahimovic is looking a compelling option given his fixtures and form for this gameweek and beyond.  If you have Costa and Kane then you need to make a decision on who to take out for GW18.  Given the fixtures and form then Costa looks the best option to keep but he’s suspended for GW18.  However if you don’t have injury problems then you maybe tempted to rest him.  However if you’re determined to have Aguero and you agree Ibrahimovic is essential then there’s little reason to keep Costa over this gameweek when he doesn’t play as he will be going anyway for the Aguero and Ibrahimovic partnership.

WHAT IS THE FFGEEK TEAM DOING?

I often say the difference between an FPL team being successful or not is getting the 50/50 decisions right.  Getting Aguero in or not is one of them.  You can make a case either way as the stats are confusing.  At the moment I’m getting Ibrahimovic this gameweek it’s just a matter of who for.  Kane or Costa.  I have injury problems of an epic proportion so taking Costa out would make sense from that perspective..  However that would force me to take Aguero unless something drastically happens to Kane.  Taking Kane out gives me flexibility to have Ibra and Costa.  Instinct tells me to go for Aguero but I’m not making the decision tonight irrespective of price changes.

I hope this helps your thought process I don’t think there’s an easy answer
