fantasy premier league tips – FFgeek contributors show their GW2 teams part 1

Contributors, Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league tips article with the first of the FFGeek contributors show their teams for GW2 article.  First up we have 3k OR finisher last season Keith Spencer, FPL Word who’s finished 3 of the last 4 seasons in the top 10k OR, Prakhar Patel who incredibly finished 17th overall last season and Yaniv Salomon who finished with an 8K OR last season.

For some reason team values don’t seem to have changed?

Keith Spencer

Keith finished with a 3k OR last season, an incredible OR of 325 in 16/17 and 9k in 15/16. He is one of the top 10 FPL managers I follow weekly who’ve finished the last 3 seasons in the top 10k OR.

GW1 points: 89 (average 53) Total points 89, Gameweek rank 83k, Overall Rank: 83k, no arrow obviously, Team Value: £100.0m

Weekly score: 89

Overall rank: 83,755

I am pleased with my overall performance; however, I did miss some key points even though my overall plan was to get Mendy early in GW2 (which I did before the price rise), I was afraid that ARS would score limiting a few points. I was afraid of Arsenal and I still am. The only thing that was different that last year to me was the manager. Ramsey had his moments but they had very little ideas and will get there points but I will steer far away for now. I know that City is CITY and they make you do things you don’t want to do I just expected more.

The one thing Arsenal do have in their favour is fixtures. In their next 9 they have che, WHU, car, new, EVE, WAT, ful, Lei, cry, before LIV. I made a little of a mistake of Hudson-Odoi, he wasn’t even in the team last week and was very good during preseason. I will see if he is in the squad this week and if not I will probably have to waste a transfer to get him out for a 4.5 playing Mid. I also am thinking of getting Jota out of there, he looked very nervous imo and he is a starter in my team presently. He can easily be shifted to Peraya or Neves as I did miss the boat on both of them.

Transfers and captaincy

I have already transferred Mendy for Van A. This was my plan all along and I am sticking to it although I have Schlupp who I thought would be good OOP value in Palace.

I am not sure over captaincy but I am in between Salah, Aguero and a dark horse Mendy. My reasoning is even if Aguero blanks again and Salah is away to Palace and gets one goal with no BPS that’s 8 , I cannot see Huddersfield scoring at City so there is 6 points for Mendy there and what happens if he scores or assists or BPS… Food for thought from a manager that doesn’t mind taking hits (in reason) or chances… Good Luck everyone.

FPL Word

FPL Word finished 35k OR in 17/18. 9k in 16/17, 1k OR in 15/16, 5k OR in 14/15

GW1 points: 94 (average 53) Total points 94, Gameweek rank 39k, Overall Rank: 39k, no arrow obviously, Team Value: £100.0m

A really good gameweek for me — 94 points and top 40k, which is the best start in FPL I’ve ever had. Defence did well and all my midfielders delivered. Still, I can’t help thinking I could have done even better. I went for the left field pick in Liverpool defence (van Dijk over Robertson) and decided to go against the grain and benched Mendy, because I thought Arsenal would score. That cost me a total of 18 points (five points lost on Liverpool and 13 points lost on playing Davies over Mendy). Had I got these two decisions right, I’d be sitting on 112 points! Madness.

Anyway, 94 points is still a great score.

Here’s a quick look at the team.

Foster — got the 6 points I was hoping for. Watford seemed very good in defence, but I’m not sure if it was them being good in defending or Brighton so poor going forward. We’ll see in the next gameweek when they play Burnley away. Burnley at home are no pushovers, but I do see a chance for 0:0 in this game.

VVD — 6 points from the big man, which is fine, though I do regret not getting Robertson. Anyway, there’s always a chance for a headed goal from the Dutchman. He certainly has the pedigree and really owes us a goal or two.

Davies — disappointed to get just 2 points from him, especially given that all the other defensive assets at Spurs earned more points. He was close to getting an assist though. Keeping him for the game versus Fulham, but he’ll likely make way for some Arsenal defender in GW3, most likely Bellerin

Shaw — so happy to see the lad score and even happier when United had the clean sheet wiped out as it put me in a relatively better position. Let’s see what Mourinho does once Young returns, but my hunch is he’ll keep Shaw on the left and start Young on the right instead of the sorry Darmian

Salah — there was no other captain option and Salah did what he was supposed to do

Mane — two goals from the Senegalese and I can’t say I was surprised. Very happy to own him over Firmino, which was another popular option

Richarlison — dream debut at Everton. He scored with his only two shots, so I’m not 100% sure he’ll be able to deliver the goods every week, but Everton were playing most of the game with 10 men. Amazing fixtures to come.

Fraser — very happy with this pick. It was right to bet heavy on Bournemouth which had the easiest fixture in GW1 and he was the man to go for.

Bernardo Silva — another punt that worked wonders. Great goal and 8 points.

Kun — even though he seems to be the most obvious captain pick in GW2, I’m worried he won’t start. He didn’t look very sharp in this game, made the wrong decisions, put shots wide. On the other hand, we all know he doesn’t need that much to score and City are so strong that he could well score three or four versus Huddersfield.

King — disappointed he did not take that penalty, but he was interested in taking it and Wilson’s miss actually increases his chances now. He seemed to appear in the right positions, so should be good for a few more gameweeks (or at least until I wildcard).

As long as Richarlison is fit, and it looks like he will be, I won’t be making any transfers. Davies will probably become Bellerin in GW3. Still not 100% set on this, but I will most likely wildcard after GW4.

I think I’ll captain Aguero, unless Pep says something that will draw me away. It is risky, but then there’s no ceiling with Kun, he could well get three or four goals in this game. I’m slightly worried that he will lose his place to Jesus, but then he could also score a goal or two even of the bench. The other options were Salah and Mane, but I have a feeling Sakho and co. could limit their goal threat a bit. Palace defended well in the second half of last season. They were a bit lucky not to concede vs. Fulham, but now they’ll be at playing at home, on a narrower pitch.

I have a couple of dilemmas. Not sure whom to bench — currently on King, but it could well be Fraser or even VVD… I already made the mistake of benching a defence heavyweight last week (Mendy), so would rather play VVD in case he scores a header. So Fraser vs. King… still not 100% sure there.

Also, goalie pick. Foster or Ryan. Judging by the first games of the season, Foster should be the obvious pick, but then Brighton held Man Utd at home (1:0) last season and they will certainly tighten up now too. And United weren’t too good going forward. Quite possible both keepers will get cleanies, to be fair. On Foster for now.

Prakhar Patel

Prakhar finished in 17th overall in fantasy premier league last season.  An amazing acheivement

GW1 points: 89 (average 53) Total points 89, Gameweek rank 83k, Overall Rank: 83k, no arrow obviously, Team Value: £100.0m

Below is how my team looks right now. Starting the season with 89 points was absolutely a dream start.

I am currently looking to save my transfer as I think this team doesn’t need any changes.Onto the captain choice, it’s on Salah until Pep says that Aguero is gonna start definitely.  Will update the team on Twitter @iamprakhar2 if anything changes

Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv finished with an 8k OR last season

GW1 points: 89 (average 53) Total points 89, Gameweek rank 83k, Overall Rank: 83k, no arrow obviously, Team Value: £100.0m

Hi all, so it’s been a fantastic GW1 for us FPL managers, we miss this league so much and now it came back as a central part of our lives.

I scored 89 points which is 68% above the average of 53.  I would definitely take this every week!

In the contributors league I am ranked only 8th, where our friends here got an amazing average score of 83! 9 of my 11 starting lineup returned which is amazing, and the only ones who didn’t return where Kun and Mitrovic who were very active and dangerous.   Like dear Geek, Mendy was on my bench, but I won’t regret it as all my other defenders returned. I am happy with my 4 top 6 defenders, and I hope Shaw can keep his place for the next 3 GW’s.

As for next GW, I will not make a transfer.  I’m 100% sure of that, even if the young Brazilian will not play.

I am glad I have in my squad who I think are the most secure City players in the next 6 GW’s as they amazingly face the 6 promoted teams from the last 2 years in a row.

My only doubt for the GW2 starting 11 is  that I need to choose 2/3 from Mitrovic/Luiz/Jota. I, like a good CPA, likes to go to the odds checker , Luiz odds for CS is 2.7, Jota odds to score is 3.75 and Mitrovic odds to score is 4.0. So it will be a last minute call between dynamic Jota to the furious Mitrovic. I like to use the amazing data and articles in this site, and after reading Andrew Ferguson’s article I may choose Mitrovic (I didn’t see the game, but I read Mitro was very lively and had more shots than any other player over the weekend). One small thing, my only fear is that Kane removes the August curse, as I won’t bring him in until my WC that is planned, at the moment, for for GW5… So Harry don’t hurry!

The armband goes for now to Kun with amazing odds to score of £1.36! You can never guess what is on Pep’s mind, but my gut feeling is that Kun will start even if Jesus will get a spot in the starting lineup.   Then it will be 3-5-2 and it will be one of the only weeks that Mo will not get the armband.. If something will change I will get the Geek to tweet it

Good luck to all of us!

Yaniv
