fantasy premier league tips – the potential World Cup GW1 absentees

Fantasy Premier League, Preseason

mertesacker

With the news coming out today that Enner Valencia and RVP are likely to miss GW1 due to their extended World Cup break I thought I should circle back on the World Cup attendees and see who potentially wont be in the GW1 lineups and who at least needs monitoring.  I’ll also look at who will possibly benefit at least in the short term.   It could be only a couple to a few weeks though.

fantasy premier league tips – the potential World Cup GW1 absentees

Arsenal

The German trio of Podolski, Mertesacker and Ozil will definitely miss out and this has been confirmed by Wenger.  Podolski was probably unlikely to lineup anyway.  Mertesacker is a long term CB but it could mean £4.5m cheapie Chambers plays as Vermaelen is also looking unlikely to make GW1.

Aston Villa

Concrete Ron Vlaar has yet to make an appearance in preseason and it seems unlikely he’ll start in GW1 although nothing has come from Lambert as yet.  The CB position is pretty competitive and anyone of Senderos, Baker, Herd or Clark could take the seat temporarily

Chelsea

The brazilian trio of Oscar, Willian and Ramires (suspended for GW1 anyway)  have yet to make an appearance and seem unlikely to make GW1.  Thats the same for Schurrle I imagine.  There’s also a distinct lack of Cahill so far.  Even Hazard has only just returned.  So a team stuffed with attacking midfielders could be short.  I would be surprised if Hazard doesn’t start which would leave £6.5m Salah as a certain starter maybe with Fabregas pushed up into the attacking 3 and Van Ginkel playing next to Matic in the double pivot.  Alternatively Mourinho could play 2 strikers with Torres the most likely to start.

Everton

Lukaku and Mirallas seem the GW1 risks here.  Neither will start training until Thursday.  Mirallas was playing as a sub later in last season anyway and that may see Osman starting instead.  It certainly lessens the possibility of Barkley starting on the bench.  I’m sure Martinez will do everything he can to start with Lukaku but the time period is short.  I don’t believe he played for Chelsea and has to be a risk to start. That could mean Kone starting but  he’s also struggling which would be back to Naismith

Liverpool

Everyone seems to be up and running for Liverpool.  The risk is Sturridge through injury although the word from Liverpool is he will be fit.

Man City

Pellegrini has already flagged that the Argentine trio of Aguero, Zabaleta and Demichelis are unlikely to start for GW1.  Thats likely to mean starts for Jovetic and Dzeko with the Negredo injury.  Demichelis could mean a start for Nastasic although Mangala looks like he will be joining in time.  With Sagna also yet to play it seems that Clichy bizzarely could start at RB with Kolarov on the left.  Fernandinho also looks unlikely to start so new signing Fernando will probably line up.  This is good news for YYT as Fernando is much more of a sitter than his nearly namesake.

Man Utd

Only RVP seems a doubt for GW1 from the World Cup representatives.  Thats great news for Rooney who should be the most advanced striker and have pen duties.

Spurs

The Belgian trio of Chadli, Dembele and Vertonghen all look doubtful for GW1 with no preseason so far.  Neither Dembele or Chadli look certain to start anyway but Vertonghen would have done if fit.  Hard to see him starting now with the new manager wanting a high pressing game which will rely on fitness.  Too tricky to pick the benefitting CBs, maybe Chiriches and Kaboul?  Fryers starting would be the real value.

Stoke

Odemwingie and Cameron have both just returned.  Cameron will probably miss out to Bardsley anyway.  Odemwingie as a midfielder is a temptng target but this could mean he is rested although it’s touch and go.  Ireland could be the beneficiary but it would be very short term

West Ham

Big Sam has said Enner Valencia won’t be fit enough to start.  With Carroll injured this could mean a start for Carlton Cole.

I’ll obviously be doing a full predicted lineup schedule on the Friday before GW1 to give the latest views but friendlies and news tweets will keep updating the situation
