Firstly here’s the team. The transfers were:
Pedro out – Shaqiri in
Gomis out – Benteke in
So here’s the team:
The transfers
Been debating long and hard all week over the transfers. I was always going to put Benteke in the team as the games going forward against Norwich and Villa were just to hard to turn down. He’s also well represented in the top 10 FPL managers I follow and his underlying stats have been ok if not amazing. The negative has been his actual returns and the struggles of Liverpool to integrate his strengths into the team. However overall I thought he was a fixture gamble worth taking. Gomis was the one to be sacrificed as Wilson home to Sunderland was going no where.
The 2nd transfer was even more difficult. With Pedro probably not playing he was the natural target to raise funds. Newcastle next week though is an attractive fixture so taking him out didn’t really sit well. I could have left him in the team and taken Darmian out for say Nyom of Watford. That was a serious option for some time. However the main focus was Pedro going and either Ayew of Swansea replacing him or Shaqiri. Ayew is certainly the safer bet even though his fixtures may not be as good. He has form and good underlying stats to back it up. Shaqiri has good fixtures but no form. Youre relying on quality although even that has been patchy in the past couple of seasons. He also has a pretty unpredicatable manager with a number of alternatives so even selection has some slight risk to it. In the end I went for the fixtures of Shaqiri. It’s the one big gamble in my team
The team selection
Not many dilemmas here. The midfield and the front 3 picked themseleves. GK Myhill definitely stays. So it was only the subs bench and the defence that need decisions.
As for the defence no question on Kolarov and Gomez being selected. That left 1 of Darmian, Richards and Targett. So after ignoring the clean sheet odds and paying the price I decided to follow them. They clearly favoured Richards over Darmian with Targett next so I went for that in the end.
The Captain
I’m going to do a captain selection article next but it will be hard for me to put anyone in apart from Aguero given he’s fit.
