fantasy premier league tips – tracking the likely captains in the early gameweeks

Fantasy Premier League

I find it worth checking the captain possibilities in the first 6 games or so to see how I’m covered in my squad.  Here I go through the fixtures and look at the likely captain picks to see how my squad checks out

fantasy premier league tips – tracking the likely captains in the early gameweeks

You maybe the FPL manager who picks your captain based on form alone with no regard to fixtures. You may just pick Aguero every week or rotate Aguero and Ibrahimovic home and away.  However I will generally take into account fixtures and also look to who the captain favourite will be through the polls.

I’ve said before that the captain choice can be looked at either as a sword or a shield.  If you use it as a sword you’re looking to move your rank forward.  You pick the player you will think will earn the most points no matter what.  If you use it as a shield you are mindful of ownership and the captain polls so you can see who potentially can cause your rank the most damage. So for example if a player who has 40% ownership is the captain favourite and scores say 12 points and you don’t have him and captain someone else who scores 2 then I cannot emphasise how much damage that will do to your rank.

Those who know the site will know that I use it as a shield.  Believe me there will be plenty of times when you can’t use it as a shield as the choice is 50/50 or 33/33/33 so you don’t need to go round seeking it in my view.

So we’ll now look at the fixtures for the first 6 game weeks and identify the fixtures and players who could be big captain choices in that game.  It’s all pretty subjective so I’d welcome any views.

GW1

Hull v Leicester – Mahrez

Man City v Sunderland – Aguero

Bournemouth v Man Utd – Ibrahimovic

GW2

Watford v Chelsea – Hazard

Spurs v Palace – Kane

GW3

Hull v Man Utd – Ibrahimovic

Watford v Arsenal – Sanchez

Chelsea v Burnley – Hazard

Leicester v Swansea – Mahrez

GW4

No standout fixtures

GW5

Man City v Bournemouth – Aguero

Watford v Man Utd – Ibrahimovic

Hull v Arsenal – Sanchez

Spurs v Sunderland – Kane

Leicester v Burnley – Mahrez

GW6

Liverpool v Hull – Sturridge

Middlesboro v Spurs – Kane

So what does this mean for your team?

I think it shows that out of 6 games Aguero will be a big captain favourite in 2.

Mahrez also features in 3 games.

Ibrahimovic also features in 3 but in all 3 there are good alternatives.

Spurs have 3 fixtures which could see Kane in the frame

Chelsea is an interesting one although at the moment there’s  no particular high ownership threat but GW3 looks painful

Arsenal and Liverpool shouldn’t be too much of a threat until GW5.

Hope you found that useful and some food for thought
