FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE TRANSFER IMPACT SUMMARY – READING’S SHOREY – SWANSEA’S FLORES AND SPURS’ VERTONGHEN

Preseason

Here’s a quick summary of the transfers of the day, a brief analysis of the player and stats and a comment on the fantasy premier league impacts on our possible line ups for the opening game.

Nicky Shorey to Reading

An emotional return for the 31year old left back on a free transfer 1 year contract.
He played 286 games over a 7 year spell for reading as was voted by the fans as the clubs best left back ever according to the official Reading website.
Here’s his basic stats from the last 2 years:
Season         Team            Competition           Starts     Sub    Goals  Assists  YC   RC
2011-12      WBA              premier league       25           0        1        3          1       0
2010-11       WBA             premier league        25           3        0        1          1       0
An attacking left back who is also handy with set pieces.  Fell out of favour last season and the final nail in the coffin was when Liam Ridgewell joined.  Has assist potential.  Price will be interesting.
Hard to see him not replace Ian Harte although his defensive strength has at times been called in to question.
I will replace him in my pre-season line up article and update it. Find it under “lineups” on the site.

Jose Manuel Flores to Swansea City

Michael Laudrup  completed his first signing for Swansea City 25 year old centre back in Jose Manuel Flores from Genoa for £2m initial although he was currently on loan at RCD Mallorca. He has previously worked with Laudrup at RCD Mallorca.  He is a former Barcelona B player.
Here’s some statements from the player as reported in the Telegraph to give you a flavour of his style and ethos.
“He (Laudrup) was one of the main reasons I signed. He knows me as a person and a player, so I was honoured when the call came.
“I believe the manager will be good for Swansea and they have done extremely well to get him. Swansea’s way of playing is the same style as he wants to play the game. He is the right person to take this club forward.”
Former Spain Under-21 international Flores, who also had spells with Cadiz, Racing Portuense and Barcelona B, believes he will have little trouble fitting in to Swansea’s attractive passing style.
“Being brought up in Spain, I have the same culture of possession and passing football,” he said.
“I like to play from the back, come forward with the ball, and add to the possession game.
“I’m really looking forward to it. I have been studying Swansea on the internet and I know I am joining a club with passionate supporters who are very close to the players.”
Heres his stats:
Season         Team            Competition           Starts     Sub    Goals  Assists   Shots    YC      RC
2011-12      Mallorca          La Liga                   33          0        0        2            8        14       0
2010-11       Genoa             Serie A                   7           8         0        0            8         2       0
2009-10       Mallorca          la Liga                    27         0          0       0            20      6         2
I have to say I haven’t seen him play but it seems he will fit in to the passing ethos that will continue at Swansea city.  Has an appalling scoring record though and judging by the number of shots without scoring supporters in the upper tiers behind the goal had better watch out. Despite the ball playing ethos he doesn’t seem to shirk from the rough stuff judging by his yellow card ratio to games.  That may be a comment on the non contact sport that is la liga and Serie A though.
In summary I can see him replacing Gary Monk in my pre-season fantasy premier league lineup and  I will update the lineups with him in it..

Jan Vertonghen to Spurs

Last and definitely not least, Spurs have landed Jan Vertonghen subject only to a medical.   The highly rated 25 year old Begian International is much lauded in Europe.  His last season at Ajax even before the stats make impressive reading.  Ajax captain, Ajax player of the year and Dutch league player of the year.  it doesn’t come much better than that.  He is described as a left footed versatile centre back, left back or defensive midfielder who has recently attracted the attention of a number of Top European clubs.  He’s also very attack minded.
Heres his stats:
Season         Team            Competition           Starts     Sub    Goals      YC      RC
2011-12      Ajax             Eredivisie                  31          0        8          6         0
2010-11      Ajax             Eredivisie                  32           0         6         6          0
An experienced player at a good age in quality form that seems relatively injury free.  Also a good goal scoring record.  Seems certain to go in to the team at the expense of  Ledley King.  Looks a good solid bet to start and to have good game time.  With Tottenham having a relatively easy opening schedule, depending on price, he looks a good prospect for our opening fantasy premier league teams.
Again I will update the line up article with him in the fantasy premier league line up.
