fantasy premier league transfer tips – early GW2 Bandwagons and Sinking Ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our weekly bandwagons and sinking ships ie the 5  players who are the  most transferred in and the most transferred out in fantasy premier league coming into GW2.

fantasy premier league transfer tips – early gameweek 2 Bandwagons and Sinking Ships

At this stage alot of people transfer in the most transferred players just to increase the value of the team.  It’s a fairly common strategy and while the transfer activity is so frantic and the number of active players so high it’s the best time to do so.  We’ll look at the players with a bit of a longer term context.

The Bandwagons

Sigurdsson

The Swansea attacking midfielder  is the most transferred in player by nearly 3 times more than anyone else.  He scored a goal and an assist against Man Utd, both the result of his CAM positioning and attacking ability.  He had 2 seasons on the periphery at Spurs but we shouldn’t for get at Swansea 3 seasons ago he got an FPL point every 14.6 minutes.  Thats pretty much the same as Hazard and Silva last season.  With Burnley and WBA at home next it’s a good 2 fixtures to buy on

Next 6 fixtures:

Burnley (H)
West Brom (H)
Chelsea (A)
Southampton (H)
Sunderland (A)
Newcastle (H)

Dier

The 20 year old Spurs CB is a new transfer and  is part of a team of 10 defenders who could play as first choice ostensibly.  Spurs involvement in the Europa League and Poccetinhos pressing style necessitates a large sqaud to keep maximum fitness and rest and rotation.  The first choice defence is probably Walker, Vertonghen, Rose and one other CB.  The other CBs are Kaboul, Dawson, Dier and Chiriches.  Dier has been excellent in his limited pre-season and we know that Poccetinho isn’t afraid of giving youth a chance.  However it’s a big step to get ahead of the other 3.  At the moment though Vertonghen isn’t match fit so 4 are competing for 2 places.  You could also argue that Dawson is too slow to play Poccetinhos system so he’s really only competing with 2 others.   Vertonghen should be match fit by GW3 so at that stage Dier will be competing with Chiriches and Kaboul.  I would be surprised if he holds his place but Poccetinho can surprise you.  QPR next though looks a good chance for a clean sheet if you think he will hold his place.

Next 6 fixtures:

QPR (H)
Liverpool (H)
Sunderland (A)
West Brom (H)
Arsenal (A)
Southampton (H)

James Chester

The Hull CB got a clean sheet as well as a goal and 3 bonus points.  The Hull defence was one of the best at home last season in the cheapie bracket.  8 clean sheets last season was the same as Everton and only 2 less than Chelsea and Man City so they are definitely worth the investment.  They only really rotate well with Burnley though so not ideal for a 2 team rotation.  Bruce is the cheapie at £4.0m in the Hull team but he will only play in 3-5-2 so you’re relying on that formation.  Chester is the best of the rest at £4.5m for the Hull team.  Home to Stoke and away to Villa are not the worst fixtures next.

Next 6 fixtures:

Stoke (H)
Aston Villa (A)
West Ham (H)
Newcastle (A)
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (H)

Sterling

The fact that the £8.5m attacking midfielder Sterling has 32% ownership is enough in itself as a reason to buy.  Rodgers went for a 4-3-3 with Sterling and Coutinho flanking Sturridge.  Sterling was a constant threat and deservedly got the maximum bonus to add to his goal and assist.  The only blights on the horizon is the next 2 fixtures of Man City and Spurs away which may give you some breathing space before purchasing him.  Secondly it was a pretty disjointed attacking performance from Liverpool and they really missed the creativity and energy that Suarez gave.

Man City (A)
Spurs (A)
Aston Villa (H)
West Ham (A)
Everton (H)
West Brom (H)

Berahino

The £5.5m forward in FPL is really part of the attacking 3 behind the striker but with pens and a rotation with a Villa mid could be part of  3-5-2 for those wanting to play it.  Personally I think without Suarez in the league I’ll be looking for 3 forwards for captain options.  However you may want to rotate the captaincy between Aguero and Rooney/RVP. When all are fit this would allow you big hitter 2 strikers only for 3-5-2.  You would the rotate a cheap striker with a cheap midfielder.  New signing Ideye shouldn’t change his position.  Ideye should replace Anichebe.  In his first season last year Berahino got an FPL point every 17.9 minutes which isn’t bad at all for the price.  Rodriguez last season was 16.9 minutes so not too far off.  Being young in his second season with pens he could improve on that.

Away to Southampton and Swansea aren’t the worst 2 fixtures next but they could be easier.  After that it’s not easy either.

Southampton (A)
Swansea (A)
Everton (H)
Spurs (A)
Burnley (H)
Liverpool (A)

The Sinking Ships

Barkley

The £7.0m midfielder suffered a medial ligament injury which has been talked about keeping him out for 5 months.  Unfortuantely for FPL managers it happened in training on the Friday before GW1 which meant those who were out socialising and then sleeping in rather than glued to our computers were caught unaware.  A definite sell obviously.

Shaw

Similar situation for Shaw although this was known far earlier than Barkley.  He’s out until GW4.  Not that long off but he’s already had his fitness criticised.  Just depends whether you think waiting a minimum 3 more gameweeks is worth waiting for the £6m defender.  I personally wouldn’t.

Sunderland (A)
Burnley (A)
QPR (H) – GW4
Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (H)

Cameron

I’m surprised that the £4.5m FB was owned by so many.  His ownership is still 15%.  He was poor in the World Cup and Bardsley was also always going to be the RB.  Hard to see any reason to keep.

Hull (A)
Man City (A)
Leicester (H)
QPR (A)
Newcastle (H)
Sunderland (A)

Mata

It’s not really surprising there’s be so many sales after a pretty ordinary performance by Man Utd and the £9,0m  Mata himself.  The excellent performances of similar priced players of  Sterling, Ramsey and Silva can’t have helped the reason to hold thats for sure.  Add to that the fact that most people will own Rooney so doubling up to such an expensive extent on a stuttering team seems a big risk.  Looking on the positive side though the fixtures are excellent.  After Sunderland they play the 3 promoted sides next.  Last season he was a point every 16.5 minutes which is more Mirallas country than Hazard 14.3 minutes country.  However the season before he was a point every 12.9 minutes.  Thats not far off YYT and Ramsey’s return of a point every 12.1 minutes.  In that season he also did the “double double” of goals and assists with 11 and 18 respectively.  So he has it in him to improve, he has the position of number 10 behind Rooney and RVP when fit and he has the fixtures.  It’s just assuming you have Rooney, how many eggs do you want to put in the Man Utd basket of excellent fixtures.

Sunderland (A)
Burnley (A)
QPR (H)
Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (H)

Giroud

I’m not quite sure what the Sanogo over Giroud thing is at the moment.  I haven’t seen any World Cup fitness hangover statements but it’s hard to see Giroud being out of the team for long.  That’s especially the case given his impact when coming on in the GW1 game and the community shield.  Personally I don’t see the attraction though.  To me the choice is about Ramsey v Sanchez and Giroud isn’t in the Arsenal decision making mix.  Especially when you’ve got Costa, Sturridge, Rooney and Aguero coming back as forward alternatives.  The fixtures are a bit mixed for a double up of Arsenal players as well.
