HAZARD

The Chelsea midfielder, currently playing as a support striker, to Alvaro Morata scored twice including exercising his penalty duties  in the 3-1 win over Newcastle at the weekend.

That took him to 5 goals and 3 assists in 8 starts plus 4 short sub appearances which have been mainly while he was getting fit.  He’s been consistent returning a goal or assist in 5 of those 8 starts and has returned in all the last 3 games.  Also seems to secure the bonus points in the warm up.

His underlying stats as you can see in our expected goals article are good if not exceptional and definitely on an upward curve. He has historically outperformed them as well making them less of a decisive factor.

Fixtures are very good.

West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
Everton (A)
Brighton (H)
Stoke (H)

Morata

The CF also scored in the win over Newcastle courtesy of Mbemba ducking out of the way so he could nod it in.

Has now scored 9 goals and 4 assists in 12 games and 2 part games.  He’s been relatively consistent too returning in 8 of those 14 games (57%)

His underlying stats are good if not exceptional and he’s probably at the lower end of the spectrum for the premium forwards as far as they are concerned.

Great fixtures.  Possibly due a rest at some stage as Conte keeps reminding us of his need to rotate

West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
Everton (A)
Brighton (H)
Stoke (H)

Coutinho

The Liverpool midfielder played on the left of the front 3 in his goal and 3 assist demolition of Brighton at the weekend.  With a full team out he often moves back into the midfield 3 but that doesn’t seem to impact his returns.

He’s got 4 goals and 5 assists for the season.  Has returned a goal or assist in 4 of the 8 games (50%) which is lower than you would intuitively expect from his returns.  However every one of the games has seen a double figure FPL point haul from him.

His underlying stats have improved and they are at a good level if mainly assist based.  Has got signficant set piece responsibility.

Good fixtures ahead

Everton (H)
West Brom (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Arsenal (A)
Swansea (H)
Leicester (H)

Firmino

His 2 goal 13 point haul has come at the end of run of 11 games with just a goal and assist to show for it before the weekend.

His underlying stats have looked more like those of a midfielder for most of the season although to be fair they have improved alot recently. He’s also easily rotatable given that he has Sturridge and Solanke in the wings although he did have a rest in GW13

Good fixtures ahead

Everton (H)
West Brom (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Arsenal (A)
Swansea (H)
Leicester (H)

Ramsey

After a slow start the CM box to box midfielder is on a great run of 2 goals and 6 assists in his last 7 starts where he played 90 minutes in 6 of them.

It’s important with a player who starts in a deeper position that his underlyings stats are good to back up his returns and Ramsey’s are showing that his returns are no fluke.

Also good fixtures

Southampton (A)
West Ham (A)
Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
West Brom (A)

THE SINKING SHIPS

These are the 5 most transferred OUT players so far in the gameweek.

Pogba

Suspended after being sent off for his tackle on Bellerin v Arsenal on the weekend.  Will be back for GW19.  Hard to say who will replace him with the options available to Mourinho

Man City (H)
Bournemouth (H)
West Brom (A)
Leicester (A)
Burnley (H)
Southampton (H)

Lukaku

1 goal and 1 assist in his last 5 plus Man City next has really sealed his fate for FPL managers

The underlying stats are difficult.  If you strip out the top 6 sides where he has been poor he’s played 4 other games with a goal and 2 assists which isn’t a total disaster.  The situation isn’t helped by his inability to get bonus points unless he seemingly gets 2 returns which doesn’t help the captain decision either

Fixtures improve after the City game

Man City (H)
Bournemouth (H)
West Brom (A)
Leicester (A)
Burnley (H)
Southampton (H)

Sane

The difficult issue with Sane at the moment is his very wide left position.  At times it seems like you’re paying £8.8m for a glorified wing back.

His last 4 games have seen only 1 assist and the underlying stats have absolutely fallen through the floor in those games.

Man Utd (A)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (H)
Bournemouth (H)
Newcastle (A)
Crystal Palace (A)

Kane

The most expensive player in the game has had multiple captain failures at home to lower placed sides and also blanked in the away game at the weekend against the side with the worst home record in the league.  What is he there for if he isn’t a captain option will be the trigger question leading to so many sales.

The unfortunate thing is that 4 of the last 5 games have seen a catastrophic drop in the underlying stats which really doesn’t build the “to hold” confidence

The tricky issue is Spurs newly announced double gameweek 22 (which follows a blank GW21 for them).  Unless the situation gets markedly worse you will need a plan to get him back for that.

Stoke (H)
Brighton (H)
Man City (A)
Burnley (A)
Southampton (H)
GW21
Swansea (A) GW22
West Ham (H) GW22

Aguero

Uncertainty over when he’s going to start is one thing when you’re returning double figure FPL hauls left right and centre.  That uncertainty when you get 2 blanks and City struggle to break teams down is entirely another.  He may have started the last 3 games but only has 1 goal to show for it.

I would say though that apart from the West Ham game his underlying stats have still been good.  To me this is a matter of whether you want to invest elsewhere or whether you’re sick of the scramble to the phone every time the City team sheet comes out.

It’s difficult to imagine that when Aguero plays (and he will be rotated over this fixture heavy period)  he won’t return.

Man Utd (A)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (H)
Bournemouth (H)
Newcastle (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
