Fantasy Premier League

Here’s a few brief thoughts on 2 of the big deadline day transfers involving Man Utd and their implications

fantasy premier league transfer window deadline day – a few brief thoughts

Falcao to Manchester  United

Undoubtedly the big transfer.  Probably not what was expected from United where the focus was expected to be on a CB and a CDM or box to box player.

There’s no doubting his scoring record.  Falcao scored 11 goals and 1 assist in 19 last season for Monaco. In 12/13 he got 34 goals and 3 assists in 40 for A Madrid.  The risk area is his form post his knee injury which is why he’s probably a loan.  What will this mean for United?  Could LVG revert to 4-3-3- and play Falcao up front with Rooney and RVP.   Could he continue with 3-4-1-2 and put Rooney behind Falcao and RVP?  These seem the immediate options.  Whatever the situation Falcao is a box player finisher and will be an out and out striker.  The main person affected is probably Mata.  Wherever Falcao plays the knock on effect seems to result in Mata playing deeper or not at all.  It also probably spells the end of Di Maria playing in a front 3.  With no European games and now no League Cup he’s not there for rotation thats for sure.  Very good fixtures coming up.

Welbeck to Arsenal

£6.9m is very cheap for an Arsenal forward if he’s going to be first choice while Giroud’s injured.  Arsenal have mostly played 4-1-4-1 so if he’s the lone striker he will be cheap.  The first game is home to City so we can at least see if and where he will lineup without too much damage being inflicted.  There’s no doubt that there are questions over his quality but if he does lineup as the central striker with the creativity behind him he should score goals.  There was nothing wrong with his record last season.  He got 9 goals and 4 assists at a point every 14.6 minutes.  That’s better than Lukaku for instance although it’s obviously easier as a sub than a starter.  Tricky fixtures are the negative
