fantasy premier league transfers – the early bandwagons

As people will know who regularly come to the site ownership is a regular topic.  In simple terms a player with high ownership if he scores well will drastically affect your rank if you don’t have them.  That can be magnified if he is a captain.  Some managers including myself may look to own these managers to avoid large ranking drops in those instances.

Here’s the top 5 owned players:

David Ge Gea £5.5m GK Man Utd 41% owned

The Man Utd defence is my pick for the top defence this season. LVG’s possession strategy helped the defensive record and although Mourinho will be more direct Mourinho’s defensive record should see the clean sheets flowing in.  The acquisition of CB Bailly will certainly give the defence more depth.

I’ll certainly be getting a Man Utd defender but it’s unlikely to be De Gea.  Despite having the most clean sheets equal with Arsenal the lack of save and resulting bonus points left him some way off the top GK point scorers

Here’s the first 6 fixtures.  I’ve rated them as the 6th best first 6 attacking fixtures which is not a bad proxy for defensive fixtures as well:

Bournemouth (A)
Southampton (H)
Hull (A)
Man City (H)
Watford (A)
Leicester (H)

Aguero £13.0m Fwd Man City 39% owned

Aguero was my first pick when doing my fantasy premier league team.  The players ability to score and score big plus his natural captain potential makes him a scary player not to own.  Did play in the Copa America but minutes could have been alot worse and he should be lining up as a good captain choice home to Sunderland in GW1.  Will also have pens for Man City.  How Guardiola will affect his position is the only unknown.

Here’s the first 6 fixtures.  I’ve rated them as the 6th best first 6 attacking fixtures:

Sunderland (H)
Stoke (A)
West Ham (H)
Man Utd (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)

Payet £9.5m Mid West Ham 33% owned

After a monumental Euro’s it’s no surprise that he’s such a popular pick.  It’s also no surprise after he was a such a revelation last season.  He also has all set piece responsibility for West Ham and his ability to create chances should reap better rewards if West Ham are able to buy the top striker which is their aim.

The main issue with Payet is whether he will start GW1. Certainly he has yet to appear in preseason with only 3 weeks to go and having played in the Euro final which must have been extremely draining has to cast some doubt over that

Here’s the first 6 fixtures.  I’ve rated them as the 12th best first 6 attacking fixtures:

Chelsea (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Man City (A)
Watford (H)
West Brom (A)
Southampton (H)

Bellerin £6.5m Def Arsenal 30% owned

The Arsenal defence again last season was very strong and had the most amount of clean sheets equal with Man Utd.  Bellerin certainly has the attacking mindset that you would want a defender if you have the cash to spare for the most expensive defender in the game.  The Arsenal defence whoever you pick will be expensive though with Koscielny and Monreal £6.0m.  The value is if you can pick whether Mertesacker or Monreal will start at £5.0m.

The negative for Bellerin is that it’s likely Koscielny will not start in GW1 which won’t help the defence.  There’s a strong correlation between Koscielny and clean sheets.  The positive is the acquisition of CDM Xhaka who should increase the defensive protection in midfield.

Here’s the first 6 fixtures.  I’ve rated them as the 16th best first 6 attacking fixtures which is not a bad proxy for defensive fixtures as well:

Liverpool (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (A)
Southampton (H)
Hull (A)
Chelsea (H)

Ibrahimovic £11.5m Fwd Man Utd 29% owned

Ibrahimovic is the main dilemma for myself at the moment.  I’m a big Mkhitaryan fan so want him in my team but are a little reluctant to have both him and Ibrahimovic in my team.  It’s simply a matter of risk.  2 players new to the premier league playing for a team with a new manager is the question.  He does give a natural captain rotation option with Aguero which is also an advantage.

There’s no question about his stats and record.  It’s just the adjustment, his age and resulting rotation risk.

Here’s the first 6 fixtures.  I’ve rated them as the 6th best first attacking fixtures:

Bournemouth (A)
Southampton (H)
Hull (A)
Man City (H)
Watford (A)
Leicester (H)
