fantasy premier league transfers – GW5 – my imaginary wildcard

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my GW5 imaginary wildcard. This is where I pretend I’m using my Wildcard to give you some ideas for players with a little more longevity than the next gameweek. I’ve done it to fit in within my existing budget which will be similar to most FPL managers at the moment with it being GW5.

Here’s the team and I’ll talk through the selections in very brief terms below. You can see the detail of individual players and loads of stats stats from my “ones to watch” articles just completed.

Goal keepers

I’ve gone for the security of De Gea with a non playing £4.0m reserve to keep the cost down.  The Man Utd defence with the addition of Rojo and Blind as a CDM plus 2 proper full backs in Rafael and Shaw when fit should actually keep more clean sheets.  There’s also no home away rotation of 2 £4.5m GKs which I would trust at the moment.  This was available when Krul and Mannone were there but at the moment I wouldn’t touch the Newcastle defence with a barge pole.  The £4.0m back up I’ve gone for is Ben Hamer who had such a good game deputizing for Schmeichel at Leicester.  He will not play but thats the same for all the £4.0m GKs

Defence

I’ve gone for 1 elite defender and 2 rotating pairs.  With Man City rotating defenders and Chelsea and Liverpool conceding then the argumenst for spending a load on defence is shrinking

Chambers

With Debuchy injured long term Chambers should be available for sometime and is great value at £4.5m.  Fixtures aren’t  easy after Villa away but he’s great medium term value for Arsenal despite their no clean sheet start to the season

Wilson and Taylor

Both Stoke and Swansea have had mixed defensive performances to start the season but they have good fixtures to rotate home and away.  At the moment Swansea have 2 home clean sheets and Stoke none although their performance at City shows they still have defensive potential

Moore and Clyne

Another home and away rotation with potential for the Leicester and Southampton pair.  Southampton have been excellent in defence so far and Leicester have performed admirably against very difficult opposition.  Alot has been made of Leicesters shots conceded but the games themselves showed impressive resilience.

Midfield

I’ve actually ended up with too much money believe it or not so I’ve got 5 midfielders to choose from.  It’s a bizarre structure I admit but it’s how it ended up.

Sterling

There have been a few stuttering performances from Liverpool but it’s been a great start with 2 goals and an assist in his first 4 and great fixtures ahead.  He will play either in the front 3 or behind the striker pairing giving him every opportunity to score or assist.  A huge ownership and great fixtures makes him risky not to own

Ramsey

Again with 2 goals and an assist it’s been a great start and with the ownership of over 40% it’s hard not to own him after many were burned by not doing it in the early part of last season.  I did think about trying to squeeze Sanchez in but didn’t as I couldn’t stand the stress!

Chadli

Great form with 3 goals in first 4 games, great underlying stats and WBA next.  Even just for one game it’s potentially worth it.

Fabregas

6 assists and a return in every game is a pretty good start to his return to the premier league.  Scored in the Champions League but hasn’t really showed much shooting potential is the only negative.  Huge ownership of 46% in the unstoppable Chelsea attack means if he starts scoring he will be deadly to your ranking if you don’t own him.

Siggy

1 goal and 4 assists is a great start.  It’s a bit round the wrong way of what you’d expect and he hasn’t really shown that much shooting threat recently.  Good fixtures return though.

The Forwards

I’ve gone for 2 premium and 1 cheaper to get the expensive midfield assets.

Pelle

Started well with 3 goals in his first 4 games and good fixtures to come.  Low ownership makes him a real differential.  The start is no fluke eiether as his underlying stats are very very good

Costa

7 goals in his first 4 games all with questionable fitness supposedly.  Incredible start and incredible underlying stats.  Chelsea without him against Schalke were completely different as well.  In this form with over 50% ownership only stress freaks would not own him

Rooney

It will be interesting to see id he’s moved back to a number 10 this week to accomodate Falcao.  This may blunt him.  However RVP looks in poor nick at the moment so that makes it a straight choice between Rooney and Falcao.  I personally would like to see a little more before dumping Rooney.
