fantasy premier league wildcard – our imaginary one for GW35

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league wildcard article where we pretend that we still have a wildcard to use.  This is to give you player ideas for a longer period than just the next gameweek.  I imagine there are very few people with a wildcard left but if you have you need to think about whether you want to use it for Arsenals DGW37 or now to unwind the number of DGW34 players

fantasy premier league wildcard – our imaginary one for GW35

Firstly here’s the team with some comments on the individual players next.  The team has a value of around £103.6m

Goalkeepers

Ospina – Arsenal have 12 clean sheets fairly evenly spread home and away and 3 clean sheets in their last 5 games.  With their DGW37 and good fixtures representation is essential.  Only Koscielny seems safe for 2 games in DGW37 but Ospina is probably next in line in terms of gametime security and £1.1m cheaper than Koscielny

Hull (A)
Swansea (H)
DGW37  Man Utd (A)
DGW37  Sunderland (H)
West Brom (H)

Davis  –  The Southampton keeper has a few too many away fixtures but they are the 2nd best defensive team behind Chelsea with 15 clean sheets although most of these have been on their own ground.

Sunderland (A)
Leicester (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Man City (A)

Defenders

Terry – Chelsea are the best defensive team in the league with 16 clean sheets and 3 in their last 5.  I probably would have gone for Ivanovic but he’s just too expensive.  The risk with Terry is that after the title is won he may be rested which could give a case for £6.3m Cahill.

Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (H)
West Brom (A)
Sunderland (H)

Skrtel   – It really pains me to pay £6.0m or more for any defender but with Liverpool it’s difficult to pick anyone else due to injuries and rotation/selection quirks.  Liverpool have good fixtures and the defence has very high ownership after their DGW34.  14 clean sheets with 6 home and 8 away gives a good platform for  defender that will play home and away.  He does have good attacking potential too although it hasn’t been seen so far this season with only 1 goal

QPR (H)
Chelsea (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Stoke (A)

Van Aanholt  – Really here for value and Sunderlands DGW37.  The new manager isn’t as defensively minded as Poyet and it shows with 1 clean sheet in the last 5.  However given the DGW37 and his price plus his attacking potential with 5 assists he seems worth a place in the team.

Southampton (H)
Everton (A)
DGW37 Leicester (H)
DGW37 Arsenal (A)
Chelsea (A)

Collins and Vlaar  – 2 filler defenders who are cheap and have reasonably good fixtures if they are need to particpate.  The defence will probably line up with Terry and Skrtel playing each game and one of these 2 or Van Aanholt starting as the 3rd defender.

West Ham

Burnley (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Everton (H)
Newcastle (A)

Midfield

Ramsey– My preference for an Arsenal midfielder is Sanchez but Ramsey is  £2.6m cheaper.  Ramsey’s also in better form with 2 goals and 3 assists in the 5 games since he got back into the side.  Given comments about Sanchez needing resting earlier in the season you could also say that he is probably more rotation prone than Ramsey who has missed large parts of the season and anything but fatigued.  However Sanchez’s season returns are far superior at £13.6 minutes over FPL point to Ramsey’s 17 minutes.  Sanchez also plays in a far more advanced position with Ramsey being more reliant on arriving in the box late.  Sanchez is ahead on consistency of returns with 45% vs Ramsey’s 36%.  Although for the price both are very disappointing consistency stats.  Sanchez also has the best overall underlying shooting and creating chances stats of any midfielder.  Ramsey doesn’t even register but he didn’t last season either.

Hull (A)
Swansea (H)
DGW37  Man Utd (A)
DGW37  Sunderland (H)
West Brom (H)

Hazard – I shouldn’t really need to outline a justification for his selection.  The outstanding FPL player of the season undoubtedly.  The risk is that after Chelsea win the title he is the prime candidate for rest having played every game this season in the premier league

Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (H)
West Brom (A)
Sunderland (H)

Rodwell – A bit of a gamble here for Sunderlands DGW37.  3 goals in 16 starts and an FPL point every 25.8 minutes is hardly a recommendation but he does have very good shots in the box stats and therefore for me is worth having as a gamble.  He’s still roughly the right price at £4.7m for your 5th midfielder.

Southampton (H)
Everton (A)
DGW37 Leicester (H)
DGW37 Arsenal (A)
Chelsea (A)

Sterling – Only Sanchez has better shooting stats than Sterling and with Sturridge out for the season and Balotelli injured Sterling has to be the favourite to play central striker.  The problem for Sterling is converting those chances.  1 goal and 1 assist in his last 4 and a blank DGW34 isn’t compelling form.  Neither is his minutes per FPL point of 18.3 or his consistency rate of 45%.  QPR next is a big positive and apart from Chelsea the rest are ok.

QPR (H)
Chelsea (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Stoke (A)

Fellaini

Price and a couple of good fixtures next are the attraction here plus Fellainis advanced role and near target man status.  He’s also become very important to the attack of Man Utd.  However the stats are nothing to write home about and this is a gamble make no mistake.  1 goal in his last 4 games is pretty ordinary form as is his FPL point every 19.8 minutes.  His consistency rate of 30% isn’t anything to write home about either

West Brom (H
Crystal Palace (A)
Arsenal (H)
Hull (A)

The Forwards

Aguero and Kane

Ownership, form and season returns are the reason for these 2 and still essential in my mind.  Kane’s 1 goal and 1 assist in his last 4 though casts some doubts on my form contention though.  Both have mixed fixtures but there’s still too much to lose not to have these in your team

Man City

Spurs (A)
QPR (H)
Swansea (A)
Southampton (H)

Tottenham

Man City (H)
Stoke (A)
Hull (H)
Everton (A)

Giroud

For my money the first Arsenal player to be selected for their DGW37.  3 goals in his last 4 games.  Returned a goal or assist in 59% of his games and season returns of an FPL point every 13.6 minutes are very good stats.  Also great underlying shooting and creating chances stats show that the season has been no fluke

Hull (A)
Swansea (H)
DGW37  Man Utd (A)
DGW37  Sunderland (H)
West Brom (H)
