Here’s our fantasy premier league wildcard team article. At the moment I haven’t produced a draft team. I’ve just covered myself by getting in players who’s price may rise or taken out players who may fall. In this article I’ll show you where I think the team will go for the end of the week
fantasy premier league wildcard team – update on the FFGeek wildcard
Overall view
I think I’ve said before that while I’m a fairly conservative FPL player I do think rolling the dice on the wildcard is worth the gamble. FPL being based on only 3 things (goals, assists and clean sheets) is difficult to predict and all we can really do is increase the probability of those events happening by studying stats and fixtures. Wildcards in my mind are worth playing reasonable aggressively.
Remember when you read this that I’m working with £102.6m so my team value is poor. There will be alot of sacrifices being made from an ideal team
The current team
Here it is as it stands at the moment.
The current team is not a draft. It’s just an exercise in booking players who may rise in price. I don’t believe that wildcard transfers actually cause price rises which is why it’s bit hard to predict price rises at the moment
So I’m not going to talk about this team. I’m going to show you aspirationally what I want the team to look at for the moment. Unfortunately there are 2 options. With and without Dele Alli
Wildcard options with and without Dele Alli
It’s worth noting that all players apart from King and Holgate have a DGW37. Southampton and Arsenal players have a DGW36 as well
Without Dele Alli
With Dele Alli
Players in common
GKs
Cech and Caballero are the 2 GKs. I think GK’s can really score big in DGWs (witness De Gea’s 17 in the last DGW). So I’ve made sure I’ve got a GK in both DGWs. I did think about a cheaper option in Pickford but now Caballero has come along he’s great value. Cech will give me a DGW36 GK.
Defenders
Holgate, Alonso, Blind and Stephens are the common defenders.
Holgate is budget force due to his value and at least in he has a home game to Watford in DGW37. A Chelsea defender is pretty essential for me. I’ve stuck with Alonso due to his attacking ability. I’ve gone for Blind as the United defence has been my top rated defence. The loss of Rojo and now potentially Bailly could mean a CB partnership of Blind and Darmian unless he brings in youngster Axel Tuanzebe who I don’t think has started a game yet? That and the pretty terrible performance against Swansea does make me wobble on whether a United defender is necessary.
Stephens seems pretty safe. Caceres is the experienced CB who’s so far been consigned to the bench. Stephesn is a bigger risk than Yoshida but that extra cash saved is proving crucial.
Midfielders
Sanchez, Hazard, Albrighton and King are common
Sanchez I imagine will be a big captain favourite for GW36 and even though he’s in pretty questionable form at the moment he’s a bit hard to ignore for me. Hazard for me is the reverse. In great form. Could be a captain favourite for DGW37. Albrighton is there for budgetary reasons and about the best I could find in the DGW players at that price. King is playing as a striker and in great form with good fixtures. What’s more he’s cheap.
Forwards
Kane and Jesus are common
Kane for me in current form is essential. Jesus started surprisingly against Boro and scored. There is some talk that Aguero going off maybe serious and that would make him even more gametime secure. Aguero in a 2 worries me a little as well. He was constantly dropping off whereas Jesus took up the roll as the most forward.
The sacrifices for Alli
So it’s either Alli, Gabriel and Anichebe OR Chadli, Vertonghen and Gabbiadini.
Looking at the non Alli side. I like having a Spurs defender. Chadli, while a player I like, has only got 1 assist in his last 8 games. With WBA having nothing to play for he could easily be rotated. Gabbiadini although has a DGW36, didn’t play well against Hull and was subbed on 59 minutes . Southampton also have nothing to play for. However, it does leave me with 1 Southampton player and 2 Arsenal players for the DGW which doesn’t sit well with me.
Looking at the with Alli side. Anichebe certainly doesn’t excite me but has started recently. Sunderland relegated could mean rotation of players. He’s also injury prone which doesn’t help. Gabriel would mean a 2nd Arsenal defender which isn’t helpful given their defensive record.
At the moment I haven’t decided. Neither are ideal.
Who isn’t in the team
Sane not starting yesterday wasn’t helpful so he left my team. I think he will definitely be a risk should Aguero be fit and Pep plays with 2 strikers. If Aguero is out his place is more certain.
Lukaku. Away to Swansea and home to Watford and owned by 65% of the top 10k overall ranking managers. He is the most transferred out player so far. However 34k transfers out compared to 1.97m managers owning him is hardly a difference. At least he won’t have the captaincy risk around him. The reason for the sale is that I just can’t see how I can have Lukaku, Jesus and Kane upfront without decimating the rest of my team.
Costa. Same as Lukaku. I’d like to have him but impossible.
Thats it for the moment. I will at least post any changes on twitter
