Wildcard dilemmas

I did an article earlier in the week so I wont go through it again in any detail but really 7 of the attack I had little doubt about.  The player I didn’t want in the team was Siggy.  Ideally I would have had Silva in but this is where my not transferring in early comes home to roost unfortinately and results in a low value.  I also would have liked to have Di Maria or Tadic in but realitically that would have had to make a total sacrifice in the defence which I didn’t want to do.  So Siggy stays.

The defence was the battleground.  Foster as GK was no issue.  Chelsea were always going to have a defender in my team as a long term strategy.  Terry became the cheapest defender that I could rely on starting after Cahill was dropped and Mourinho has flirted with Luis at LB so Azpili is now out.  Southampton now were over the ridiculous set of fixtures are also a long term play.  Unfortunately Bertrand and Clayne are out of my budget so I’ve gone for Gardos with enough cash in the bank for Alderweireld when he’s fit.  Wanyama and Schneiderlin out isn’t ideal and may blunt the defence but with so much coverage of the Southampton defence going on Gardos looks like a safe insurance policy.  That was the easy bit believe it or not.  Where to next?  I marginally chose Van Aanholt over Cameron at £4.2m, perhaps emotionally, as Sunderland have got me so many points this season.  So that was ok.  Then I took a big risk and put in Baird who started at LB for WBA at the weekend over Pocognoli.  He’s £3.9m and seemed a better bet than Wasiliweski of Leicester who are a defence I have no faith in.  So the last pick was Chambers although I have to admit I have no idea if he will play over Bellerin.  I did seriously flirt with the idea of putting Phil Jones in as Man Utd have such good fixtures but that would have ruled out Alderweireld when he was back so I’ve rolled the dice.  So I’ve got 5 defenders and only 2 real certain starters.   Gardos could only last for 2 games.  Chambers could be rested and Bellerin play and Baird starting for WBA  could have been a 1 off.  Not a situation I’m particularly happy with but thats the budget I’ve dealt myself by not transferring in early and taking value seriously.  However to explain I hate transfering early under time pressure and like the thinking time and no injury risk.  I could have downgraded Siggy for say Puncheon to create some more value but that didn’t seem worth it.

What makes it worse is that all 5 play home and away at the same time.  I couldn’t believe it when I discovered it but coming up with even 1 alterantive team I struggled with so after alot of tinkering I stuck with it.  The idea is that everyweek I play the 3 big teams unless there’s a very good reason.  This week away to City for Arsenal being a good example!

Team lineup selection

Only 2 questions.  1.  Who lines up  in defence instead of Chambers.  Baird or Van Aanholt?  I went for Baird.  2.  Siggy or Boyd.  I’ve gone for Siggy although intuitively it doesn’t feel right.  However, he always seems to have a chance with his position and set pieces and I kept him in home to Arsenal and away to Liverpool against my doubts and it paid off.

Captain I went for Kane.  It was either him or Aguero but Aguero’s fitness and the opposition pushed me towards Kane

That’s it.  If I have any last minute changes I’ll tweet them
