FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE WILDCARD TIPS GW23 – OUR IMAGINARY WILDCARD

Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

Here’s our fantasy premier league wildcard tips GW23 article where we pretend we have a wildcard to use. It gives you some player picks with more longevity than just the next gameweek. It also puts those picks within a structure and a team value that is realistic. Lastly it brings together our player picks articles in the player rankings series.

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE WILDCARD TIPS GW23 – OUR IMAGINARY WILDCARD

As I said there’s no stats but go to our player ranking articles where there will be detailed stats on each player. Here’s the links in each position:

You can also check on individual players fixture rankings in our fixture ease article and how many of the ten top FPL managers we follow have them in their team.

This week I’ve kept the team within my own pathetic value of £102.2m.  It means I have had to make some hard choices but in the narrative I give some alternative options that I would have liked to have.

I’ve also kept in mind the blanks in GW26 and the fact that Southampton v Arsenal and Man City  v Man Utd is postponed. Also the fact that in GW28 the only definite games are  Everton v West Brom and Bournemouth v West Ham at the moment.  That may change after the FA Cup 4th round weekend were in at the moment.  Here’s the link to our original FPL calendar and the updated version

So here’s the team.  Underneath there’s some narrative on the thinking

COMMENTS

Starting at the back I’ve gone for the cheapie GKs in Grant and hopefully new Hull GK Jakupovic just to accrue save points and save on funds. New Hull manager Silva continues to improve the defence.  Heaton is undoubtedly the GK at the moment but I’ve stayed away to save value

I’ll start with Holgate of Everton.  Unfortunately I don’t have the money for Baines or Coleman who would be my preferred target.  Holegate is a gametime risk but with 2 starts and 2 clean sheets he looks like a good bet to stay.  I’ve also stayed with the best defence and attacking player in that defence of Marcos Alonso of Chelsea.  Jones of Man Utd is also good value with good fixtures although he does have some gametime risk with Bailly coming back from AFCON.     Then there’s the attacking potential of Chris Brunt.  With Nyom back in the side he should return to his LAM position.  Then I’ve gone for the great value that is Yoshida with Fonte transferred to West Ham.  You could take a risk with Byram of West Ham if you want someone who will play guaranteed in GW26 and GW28.  Yoshida’s still a risk depending on what Southampton do in the transfer market but with Van Dijk also injured that also gives additional security of gametime if at the expense of a better defence.

I’ve returned to a front 7 for the midfield and forwards.

Sanchez is a no brainer even postponed in GW26.  The 2 cheapies in Phillips and Stanislas are both in form , have got fixtures and also the extra advantages of set pieces enabling assists and goals. Stanislas should have pens when Wilson is off the pitch.  Both players are guaranteed to have games in the big FA Cup quarter final blank week of GW28.

Fletcher is the cheapie with a guaranteed game also in GW28.  There are some other alternatives like Fraser of Bournemouth or the extra cheapie of Tom Carroll of Swansea but Fletcher has that important gametime security.  Then there’s also Dele Alli. Eriksen has goal and assist potential plus set pieces and I wouldn’t judge anyone negatively for picking Eriksen over Alli. However it’s the virtual support striker role that Alli plays that is the key factor for me.

Ibrahimovic also needs no justification given current form and fixtures. Lukaku also has that combination and is the key player for Everton.    even with tricky fixtures consistency gets him in the side

BLANK GAMEWEEKS

GW26 – Jones, Yoshida, Ibrahimovic and Sanchez all have no game in GW26.  However there are 3 bench places and 3 transfers before GW26 to deal with that.  Holgate is the only real gametime risk.

GW28 – Those with guaranteed fixtures are:

Holgate, Brunt, Fletcher, Phillips, Stanislas and Lukaku which is not a bad start as guaranteed games will improve and there are 5 transfers before GW28
