fantasy premier league wildcard tips – our imaginary one for GW38

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league wildcard tips article for GW38.  Normally this is to give player predictions with more longevity than just the 1 gameweek.  However with only 1 gameweek to go this gameweek 38 is the only focus. If you’ve still got a wildcard btw you must be in a very small minority

Firstly here’s the team.  The idea would be to play 3-4-3.  Olsson and Cathcart would be the defensive reserves with Lingard the midfield reserve.  Darlow the cheap GK reserve.  The team is valued at just under £104m and I have structured the team in order to have an obtainable value.  Due to the possible rotation and motivational issues I’ve tried to concentrate on players with something to play for

However the reserves do have some gametime risk with Olsson, Cathcart and Lingard.  However I’ve tried to find a balance between teams with some clean sheet prospects or point scoring prospects and gametime risk.

Commentary

GK and Defence

The Everton defence has been pretty hopeless at home but anyone home to Norwich has to have a fighting chance of a clean sheet.  It seems Howard will play his last Everton game in this home game.  Darlow is just the cheapest GK as a reserve.

The 3 best clean sheet chances seem to be Southampton, Arsenal and Man Utd.  In order to make the budget I’ve had to compromise on Rojo for Man Utd instead of the ideal of Smalling.  Gabriel is a fairly certain starter due to the injury to Mertesacker and is too good a value to ignore.  There’s not that much money to save in the Southampton defence without taking some major gametime risk.  Olsson and Cathcart have some gametime risk but it was a case of trying to balance the clean sheet prospects vs that risk.

Midfield

Firstly it’s worth mentioning that there are various rumours about Payets fitness although nothing I could find from a verified source but maybe worth holding off before doing that transfer.

Tadic has been in great form recently and has both assists and goals to his game.  Mane apparently seems to be fit and could be another option for Southampton coverage.

Lingard is just a cheap 5th midfielder who has potential against a team which has been very defensively poor recently.

Sanchez is essential against Villa and a captain favourite

De Bruyne is the best midfield Man City choice against a weakened Swansea defence

The forwards

No question over Aguero.  With Welbeck injured it’s hard not to see Giroud starting and against Villa he is a great option.

Lastly I’ve gone for Martial although I think Long or even Rashford arent bad options for the cheaper forward if needed.  Given how Norwich have performed defensively even Lukaku could be an option if you have the cash
