fantasy premier league wildcard tips – our imaginary wildcard for GW36 – UPDATED

Fantasy Premier League

I’ve had to update this article after the ridiculous goalkeeper situation which looks like Robles and Mignolet will be rested today if you can believe it.  So I’ve had to update it and tweak the wildcard team.  All the changes are in italics so you don’t need to go through the jibber jabber again.  Here’s our fantasy premier league wildcard tips article for GW36 where we pretend we have a wildcard to use.  This is to give player suggestions with more longevity than just the next gameweek.  There’s a team selected and a table of stats plus some narrative to help you decide on your transfers

fantasy premier league wildcard tips – our imaginary wildcard for GW36

Here’s the team with a table of stats with a key underneath.  The narrative talks about the risks and issues with a player plus gives alternative options in some cases:  So it looks like neither Mignolet or Robles will play today so I’ve made the following changes Gomes for Mignolet.  Mannone for Robles.  Lovren for Kone and Olsson for Cathcart.  Thats just to give a spread of mainly DGW defenders

Comment

The team has been built for the DGW37 and could work for a bench boost or a triple captain.  If you want to use a chip for the DGW37 then you need to Wildcard now as you can’t use 2 chips in the same gameweek.

The GK and defence

So I’ve changed the team around due to the GK situation.  Lovren probably won’t play today but is probably the most reliable gametime wise going forward.  No Everton defender is reliable at the moment so I’ve ditched them for the cheap Olsson who also has a DGW.

I’ve gone for Mignolet as I don’t trust the rotation in the Liverpool defence with them in the Europa League.  Robles is just a cheap DGW37 GK if you’re thinking of bench boosting.  There is some speculation that both these GKs could be rotated this week so Darlow of Newcastle especially or Gomes of Watford/Mannone of Sinderland if you want to keep the DGW alive

In defence I think Man Utd with a DGW is too good to ignore so I’ve gone for Smalling as the only secure gametime player.  The West Ham defence isn’t great at all but ok as a cheap option for a DGW.  If you’ve got the cash then Cresswell as an attacking option is better but very much a DGW option.  Arsenal with the good fixtures even without the DGW are worth having in my view.  The cheap option of Gabriel isn’t that secure so you’ve got to splash out for Bellerin, Koscielny or Monreal.  If you want to go DGW crazy you could go for a Chelsea defender in Ivanovic or Azpilicueta.  Even in the crazy rotation world of Chelsea they both seem reasonably secure.

Sunderland is another cheap DGW option with actually pretty good recent defensive form.  Van Aanholt is the attacking option but Kone is pretty good at set pieces and also has some attacking potential.  GK Mannone is now the representation

Watford are a tricky one in that rotation has been rife.  Will that stop now they are out of the FA Cup?  Who knows?  However with only 3 games to go it’s hardly a huge risk and Villa next is a pretty good attraction.  GK Gomes now is the Watford defensive representation.

The Midfield

Chelsea in my mind are worth a punt for the DGW although if you aren’t wildcarding then waiting to see how they perform against Spurs on Monday maybe a good idea.  If you want to go mad and have the cash then Hazard is the ultimate gamble with the more safe option being the set pieces of Willian.  Rotation is a risk but Pedro has started the last 5.

Lanzini is a pretty good cheap option.  I personally prefer Antonio but it’s hard to recommend a midfielder playing at RB.  Sanchez is essential at the moment DGW or not.  Payet is a good triple captain option.  I think Iwobi is a good cheap option as an attacking midfielder but he definitely isn’t without gametime risk from Walcott and Ramsey

The Forwards

There’s no doubting the quality of Sturridge it’s just the gametime risk with Liverpool in the Europa League.  Unless you’re swimming in cash the chances are you’ll need to make a DGW choice between him and Lukaku.  Lukaku may lack recent form but he does have good fixtures and certainty of selection.

Aguero is an interesting one.  With Man City in the Champiosn league is he ditchable.  Not for me given his potential and ownership.  He appears to be a constant gametime risk but has started the last 17 premier league games.  Perhaps it’s the summer off that is giving Pellegrini the view that he can play him relentlessly.

Lastly there’s Deeney.  Neither him or his strike partner are in any sort of form and with Watford making Liverpool look like an oasis of selection stability it’s a massive Villa and DGW punt.  However if you don’t roll the dice you don’t get the pay off.  Defoe or Andy Carroll are the other cheap options.

The ownership battleground

The Stoke v Spurs game was a massive reminder that ditching high ownership players for double gameweek playes comes with massive rank risk.  FPL managers, including myslef, who ditched both Alli and Kane paid for it dearly after that game.

So here’s the DGW vs high ownership single gameweek players battle ground.

The risk areas are the defences of Leicester, Spurs and Arsenal which are highly owned.  If the premier league is won soon that may totally change focus and team selection in Leicester and Spurs.  Arsenal are another kettle of fish and will have to be at it to get the 3rd they want and even 4th now is not guaranteed.

In the midfield, the high ownership single gameweek players are Sanchez and Mahrez.  Mahrez has the same potential mitigation that the Leicester defence has.  Sanchez is looking like a big captain favourite this week and huge scoring potential and carries alot of risk in not owning him.

Upfront the main risk area is Kane and Aguero.  If Spurs lose the title then it’s hard to see that he won’t be rested given he’s played every PL game.  Aguero is a little different as Man City definitely need to keep winning to claim a Champions League spot and he seems vital.  The one mitigation is that he’s unlikely to be a big captain choice to the end of the season and that may convince some to roll the dice

Triple Captain

In this team I can only see Payet as a triple captain option and it’s hardly the ideal option.  If I could guarantee 2 games for Sturridge them he definitely would be

Hope that helps you with your transfer selections
