fantasy premier league wildcard tips – Our imaginary one for GW8

Here’s our Wildcard team with below the  key stats, some words on their prospects and the next 6 fixtures:

Ive gone for a slightly different structure here.  Despite all the goals at the weekend I’ve invested a little more in defence due to some of the opportunities/gambles out there depending on your view point.  Also with a couple of £5.0m ish  players available in midfield I’ve spent a little more on my 5th midfielder and it now becomes a front 8 with essentially a choice between Hoolahan and Ighalo each week.  So here’s the low down on each player

Begovic

Chelsea 1 clean sheet in 7 games.  FPL point every 26.5 mins

Despite all the problems with the Chelsea defence £5.0m is good value for a Chelsea defender.  A couple of good home games next helps as well.  It all depends on whether you think Chelsea can turn around their defensive issues

Southampton (H)
Aston Villa (H)
West Ham (A)
Liverpool (H)
Stoke (A)
Norwich (H)

Hennessey

Crystal Palace 1 clean sheet in 7 games.  FPL point every 18 mins

Got the nod over McCarthy in GW7 but honestly has little gametime security.  However probably just as good as anyone in the price range as a back up.

West Brom (H)
West Ham (H)
Leicester (A)
Man Utd (H)
Liverpool (A)
Sunderland (H)

Gabriel

Arsenal 3 clean sheets in 7 games.  FPL point every 18.5 mins

The Arsenal CB is a big gametime gamble but great value if he can hold a place in the team.  Koscielny has a hamstring injury but seems he maybe back for GW8.  However Gabriels place depends on the battle with Mertesacker.  Not for the fainthearted.  Arsenal have very good underlying stats apart from errors

Man Utd (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (H)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (H)
West Brom (A)

Kolarov

Man City 5 clean sheets in 7 games.  FPL point every 13.5 mins

The loss of Kompany and in GW7 GK Hart made the defence far more fragile as shown in the loss to Spurs.  However despite the last games problems overall they probably have the best actual and underlying defensive stats of any team

Newcastle (H)
Bournemouth (H)
Man Utd (A)
Norwich (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Liverpool (H)

Dawson

WBA 4 clean sheets in 7 games.  FPL point every 16.6 mins

Like Man City injuries against Everton caused WBA probelms although neither McAuleys or Olssons injuries appear long term.  Tony Pulis as manager has an excellent defensive record.   The stats in the main are good.  Good attacker of the ball at set pieces as his goal against Everton showed.

Crystal Palace (A)
Sunderland (H)
Norwich (A)
Leicester (H)
Man Utd (A)
Arsenal (H)

Nyom

Watford 3 clean sheets in 7 games.  FPL point every 18.5 mins

Watford have started the season solidly and the RB is as good as any option with the best bonus points to date. Good actual and underlying stats especially for the cost

Bournemouth (A)
Arsenal (H)
Stoke (A)
West Ham (H)
Leicester (A)
Man Utd (H)

Davies

Spurs 3 clean sheets in 7 games.  FPL point every 25.7 mins

The LB has competition for his place but is good value at £4.5m but definitely not without gametime risk.  However only not started 1 of the first 7 games.  Spurs have significantly improved defensively from last year

Swansea (A)
Liverpool (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Ham (H)

Mahrez

(  FPL point every 9.4 minutes 5 goals 3 assists. 5 returns either goal or assist/7 games  71% consistency return rate)

The Leicester attacking midfielder is FPL sensation of the year to date.  Great underlying stats to back it up as well.  Has pens.

Norwich (A)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
West Brom (A)
Watford (H)
Newcastle (A)

Payet

(  FPL point every 12.8 minutes 3 goals 3 assists. 5 returns either goal or assist/7 games  71% consistency return rate)

The West Ham central play maker is the attacking hub of the team and has started the year off very successfully.  Good creating chances stats but can’t say the same for shooting stats despite the goals to date.  Good set piece responsibility.

Sunderland (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
Chelsea (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (H)
Spurs (A)

Pedro

(  FPL point every 16.2 minutes 1 goal 2 assists. 2 returns either goal or assist/5 games  40% consistency return rate)

The Chelsea RW after a good start has gone 3 games without a goal or assist. He’s also missed some excellent chances.  The underlying shooting stats are still good even if the creating chances have fallen away.  Hazard would still be my Chelsea prererence if affordable.  2 good fixtures next at home.  Man City’s De Bruyne is also an alternative here.

Southampton (H)
Aston Villa (H)
West Ham (A)
Liverpool (H)
Stoke (A)
Norwich (H)

Hoolahan

(  FPL point every 11.5 minutes 1 goal 5 assists. 4 returns either goal or assist/6 games  67% consistency return rate)

A number of injuries and the price proximity to Westwood makes him a useful addition of the bench for the extra funds.  Does have gametime issues with starts and substitutions but has shown himself to be able to churn out the points at a stunning rate.  Pretty good creating chances stats.

Leicester (H)
Newcastle (A)
West Brom (H)
Man City (A)
Swansea (H)
Chelsea (A)

Sanchez

(  FPL point every 14.2 minutes 3 goal 1 assist. 2 returns either goal or assist/7 games  29% consistency return rate)

The Arsenal attacking mid came out of the last chance saloon at Leicester with all guns blazing with an amazing hat trick.  Repeated goal scoring in the Champions League.  A testament to underlying shooting stats and proven previous form finally coming to inevitable fruition.  Explosive if not that consistent

Man Utd (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (H)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (H)
West Brom (A)

Aguero

(  FPL point every 25.0 minutes 1 goal 1 assist. 2 returns either goal or assist/7 games  29% consistency return rate)

The class and shooting stats can’t surely continue to go unrewarded.  Doesn’t look that convincing in the flesh but this is about faith in the stats and ability.  Has pens.

Newcastle (H)
Bournemouth (H)
Man Utd (A)
Norwich (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Liverpool (H)

Ighalo

(  FPL point every 14.4 minutes 4 goals 0 assists. 3 returns either goal or assist/7 games  43% consistency return rate)

The cheap rotation with Hoolahan.  Great form this season in a pretty uninspiring attacking team.  However good shooting stats shows it’s no fluke so far.  He’s just unproven so hard to know how sustainable it is.

Martial

(  FPL point every 9.0 minutes 3 goals 1 assist. 2 returns either goal or assist/3 games  67% consistency return rate)

Good value for a top 4 team striker but fixtures are now pretty tricky.  Good start to his PL career but not really backed up by the underlying stats.  Saw him play live against Wolfsburg and he didn’t have his best game.

Arsenal (A)
Everton (A)
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
West Brom (H)
Watford (A)
