fantasy premier league wildcard tips – our imaginary wildcard for GW20

Firstly here’s the squad

fpl..gw20imagWC

De Gea

De Gea Man Utd GK £5.6m (Man Utd 19 games 10 clean sheets 16 goals conceded.  FFG defence rank:1st GW20)

My top ranked defence despite some recent issues which seemed partially resolved with the clean sheet over Chelsea.  Also  mine and the bookies top clean sheet prospect this week.  Alot more than I would like to pay for a GK but gives that Man Utd coverage without having to pay £6.8m for Smalling who seems the only certainty at the moment.  Jones at £5.0m is the risk option although LVG’s unpredicatable selection and Jones’ injury record make it a risky combination

Swansea (H)
Newcastle (A)
Liverpool (A)
Southampton (H)
Stoke (H)
Chelsea (A)

Hennessey

Hennessey C Palace GK £4.1m (C Palace 19 games 6 clean sheets 16 goals conceded.  FFG defence rank:3rd GW20)

3 clean sheets in the last 4 games have really bought the Palace defence to the forefront of FPL managers thoughts and Hennessey is an absolute bargain at £4.1m

Chelsea (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Man City (A)
Spurs (H)
Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)

Walker

Walker Spurs GK £5.2m (1 goal 1 assist.  Minutes per FPL point:  23.0 mins.  Spurs 19 games  7 clean sheets 15 goals conceded.  FFG defence rank:5th GW20)

Pochettino has got Spurs finally showing some defensive resolve with 3 clean sheets in the last 6.  There’s a number of options at a similar price with Alderweireld the most expensive at £6.0m.

Everton (A)
Leicester (H)
Sunderland (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Norwich (A)
Watford (H)

Koscielny

Koscielny Arsenal CB £6.1m (2 goals 0 assists.  Minutes per FPL point:  20.6 mins.  Arsenal 19 games  8 clean sheets 18 goals conceded.  FFG defence rank:2nd GW20)

I’ve chosen Koscielny rather than the cheaper Mertesacker just because of some risk around Gabriel replacing Mertesacker after a good performance against Bournemouth and some questionable performances from Mertesacker.  In the short term Koscielny seems likely to play given he was rested against Bournemouth

Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)
Stoke (A)
Chelsea (H)
Southampton (H)
Bournemouth (A)

Moreno

Moreno Liverpool LB £5.0m (0 goals 1 assists.  Minutes per FPL point:  25.4 mins.  Liverpool 19 games  7 clean sheets 22 goals conceded.  FFG defence rank:6th GW20)

2 consecutive clean sheets has given a bit more confidence in the Liverpool defence and Moreno is fairly nailed on due to injuries.  He’s also a good attacking option despite only landing 1 assist

West Ham (A)
Arsenal (H)
Man Utd (H)
Norwich (A)
Leicester (A)
Sunderland (H)

Simpson

Simpson Leicester £4.1m RB (0 goals 1 assists.  Minutes per FPL point:  22.7 mins.  Leicester 19 games  4 clean sheets 25 goals conceded.  FFG defence rank:12th GW20)

A cheap filler only although to be fair the Leicester defence has got 2 clean sheets in the last 6.

Bournemouth (H)
Spurs (A)
Aston Villa (A)
Stoke (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man City (A)

Wollscheid

Wollscheid Stoke £4.5m CB (0 goals 0 assists.  Minutes per FPL point:  20.3 mins.  Stoke 19 games  8 clean sheets 19 goals conceded.  FFG defence rank:7th GW20)

Good value and the cheapest options for such a strong defence.

West Brom (A)
Norwich (H)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Man Utd (A)
Everton (H)

Mahrez

Mahrez Leicester RM mid £7.1m (18 games 13 goals 7 assists) FPL point 9.6 mins. 12/18  67% consistency % of games that a goal or assist is returned) Has pens

Stats speak for themselves.  Blanked in the last 2 but that was against Liverpool and Man City

Bournemouth (H)
Spurs (A)
Aston Villa (A)
Stoke (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man City (A)

Walcott

Walcott Arsenal AM mid £7.1m (13 games 3 goals 3 assists) FPL point 15.9  mins. 5/13  38% consistency % of games that a goal or assist is returned)

My differential pick. Most FPL managers seem to have gone for Ramsey although I think Walcott has a more consistent attacking threat.  Does come with gametime risk though as he may go back to Giroud striking job share when Sanchez is back.  2 consecutive blanks although did everything but score against Bournemouth.  Consistency is poor but there are 3 sub appearances in that 13

Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)
Stoke (A)
Chelsea (H)
Southampton (H)
Bournemouth (A)

Ozil

Ozil Arsenal £10.0m mid (18 games 3 goals 16 assists) FPL point 12.0 mins. 14/18  78% consistency % of games that a goal or assist is returned) Has some set piece responsibility

Hard to describe how good his goal and assist performance was against Bournemouth not to mention the 9 chances he created.  Mr consistency just keeps doing it and the stats for the Arsenal CAM speak for themselves.  Leading assister and chance creater by some distance.  No shooting stats is the only negative.

Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)
Stoke (A)
Chelsea (H)
Southampton (H)
Bournemouth (A)

De Bruyne

De Bruyne Man City £10.9m RM mid (15 games 5 goals 8 assists) FPL point 13.2 mins. 7/15  47% consistency % of games that a goal or assist is returned) Has some set piece responsibility

A blank in the Leicester game makes it 1 returning game in the last 5 although to be fair that was a 16 pointer.  I’ve said before he’s a lite version of Ozil in that he’s an assist based player with set piece responsibility  but doesn’t have the stats or consistency of Ozil and plays on the right rather than as a CAM.  For the price you would want the consistency above 50% thats for sure.  However with Aguero being out and Silva/Sterling not firing he’s been the default City coverage.  Also very high ownership among active managers makes him a dangerous player not to own.

Watford (A)
Everton (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
West Ham (A)
Sunderland (A)
Leicester (H)

Alli

Alli Spurs CAM £5.3m mid (16 games 4 goals 5 assists) FPL point 16.7 mins. 7/16  44% consistency % of games that a goal or assist is returned)

To have a CAM in a top 4 challenging team really is a gift at £5.3m.  Seems likely to hold it after Dembele went into the double pivot instead of the CAM when he returned.  Demeble is also injured for a few weeks.  His stats for the price and as a young new player to the league are good and should only get better if he can hold onto that position

Everton (A)
Leicester (H)
Sunderland (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Norwich (A)
Watford (H)

Kane

Kane Spurs  £9.8m fwd (19 games 11 goals 1 assists) FPL point 17.2 mins. 8/19  42% consistency % of games that a goal or assist is returned) Has pens

A slow start to the season when he didn’t return a goal or assist for 6 games has made his stats look fairly ordinary.  However if you want to put a positive light you start from his Bournemouth hat trick and it’s 10 goals and 1 assist in 10 games and a consistency return rate of 70% which puts a completely different light on it.  What he does have that doesn’t need interpretation is good fixtures and good underlying stats to give a positive view going forward

Everton (A)
Leicester (H)
Sunderland (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Norwich (A)
Watford (H)

Vardy

Vardy Leicester £7.6m fwd (19 games 15 goals 4 assists) FPL point 13.2 mins. 16/19  84% consistency % of games that a goal or assist is returned)

Incredible stats but now being sold by alot of FPL managers after 2 blanks against Liverpool and Man City.  To be fair though as well his underlying stats have fallen off.  It’s whether you believe that the recent blanks and drop off of stats are the pointer towards a slower period coming up or whether having 2 Leicester attacking players is too much risk for a team that was bottom of the premier league last Christmas

Bournemouth (H)
Spurs (A)
Aston Villa (A)
Stoke (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man City (A)

Lukaku

Lukaku Everton £9.3m fwd (19 games 15 goals 4 assists) FPL point 12.9 mins. 12/19  63% consistency % of games that a goal or assist is returned) Should have pens

Has been absolutely sensational this season.  Ticks every box and owned by every man and his dog.  Only some thrill seeking junkie would ignore him.

Spurs (H)
Man City (A)
Chelsea (A)
Swansea (H)
Newcastle (H)
Stoke (A)
