Salah

7 goals and 3 assists in his 10 starts plus 1 sub appearance culminating in 2 goals against West Ham in GW11.  He’s also got the underlying stats to back it up.  There is a theory that Salah needs Mane to succeed which is relevant as Mane may have aggravated an old injury over the international break.  However Salah has scored in 3 of the 4 games that Mane hasn’t started.

Sane

The young German has played as a left sided forward most games for Man City and it’s an incredible 6 goals and 5 assists in 7 starts.  He’s not averse to blanking though having blanked in 3 of those 7 starts.  His underlying stats overall are excellent and show an ability to score and assist.  He can run hot and cold though but when hot he’s very hot.  The 4 games he did return in were all double figure FPL hauls.

With Man City you just have to accept rotation and although he’s started the last 6 premier league games Pep’s seeming desire to win every competition will undoubtedly see him rest every now and then.  Pep’s seemingly favouring a single striker system is good news but in someways countered by an extra attacking midfield body in Bernardo now looking more of an option

Jones

The Man Utd CB is in the top 10 value for money players as you’ll see from my article.  Ignoring the Huddersfield game where he went off after 22 minutes Jones has managed 8 clean sheets from 10 games so far.  Unfortunately he has very little attacking threat and his appeal is his price and the Man Utd defence.

The negative is that a thigh injury picked up on England duty has him as a big doubt for GW12

Ward

The Burnley defence continue to defy gravity by significantly out performing their underlying defensive stats.  However the fact that GK Nick Pope is 3rd for saves despite a less than full season and Tarkowski and Mee 2nd and 3rd in the categories of blocks, clearances and headed clearances may have something to do with that.  Will they continue outperforming expectations is the question?

Morata

The Chelsea CF has had a fantastic start to the premier league.  7 goals and 3 assists in 8 starts and 2 as sub is a fantastic record.  He’s also been consistent scoring or assisting in 5 of those 8 games.

His underlying stats are good too and he’s only had 2 games in those where he’s not turned up as a threat.

Has had a few injury niggles which are probably the only negative as we head into a busy season.  Playing as a sub mainly in Spain and Italy recently will be very different to being the main man over the busy Xmas period.

Otamendi

Suspended for 1 game after reaching the requisite amount of yellow cards. I imagine 1 point in the last 2 games and 1 clean sheet in the last 4 may also have had something to do with it but I think it’s a bit short sighted.  The Man City defence in my view is the best in the league and after the Leicester game it’s a good run of fixtures.  The only negative is that both him and Stones have Kompany’s fitness hanging over them at some stage.

Alli

Virtually playing as a striker in the Spurs team is a big attraction for the midfielder.  However it’s only 2 returning games in the last 7 and he missed GW11 with an injury.  It seems however for the moment that he will, most likely,  be fit for GW12. His underlying stats aren’t bad overall but I would say he’s only produced an acceptable level of goal threat in 4 of the 10 games played and that’s worryingly inconsistent .

After the Arsenal game though it’s a nice little run of fixtures

Lukaku

Having held onto him for Spurs and Chelsea in GW10 and GW11 it seems a little strange to sell him now before a home game against Newcastle where he will be the captain favourite. What’s more it’s Brighton and Watford after that.

It seems a little harsh to sell him also on the back of 7 goals and 3 assists in 11 games where he’s played 90 minutes in every game.  It’s also not as if the underlying stats have been bad.  They’ve been exceptionally good up to the last 3 games when they’ve been poor but as I said that did include Spurs and Chelsea where he really was poor.

Eriksen

3 goals and 3 assists in 11 games isn’t bad and the fact that he picked up at least 2 bonus in 4 of those 5 scoring games helps what are fairly acceptable returns.  However the cracks have appeared with him blanking in the last 3.  What’s more his underlying stats really aren’t great for the price. You’re relying on someone who has to be fair has pretty consistently overperformed his underlying stats.  I guess you could put them down to his ability to score screamers from outside the box and Harry Kane’s lethal finishing of any chances created.  However that’s a pretty unnerving thing to be relying on.

Like I said for Alli, after the Arsenal game it’s a nice little run of fixtures

Mkhitaryan

There’s not much to say apart from the fact that he’s blanked in the last 6 and is now firmly in Mourinho’s sub thoughts having averaged 62 minutes over those 6 games.  I admire those who have held him for this long.  You make labradors look fickle and disloyal.  If you’re looking for hope in the underlying stats then you’re wasting your time.  They have fallen apart over the last 6.

There’s only the good 3 fixtures next left for any hope
