GW31 review

I survived GW31 with 7 players and no hits and only a loss of 4100 in rank. I knew when I played my WC early in GW28 that it was a risk because it limited my options for GW31. As it stands I am only 8000 in OR ahead of where I was before I played my WC, but I believe I easily would be sitting at OR 50,000-60,000 if I had not, so I am happy with the limited result.

DGW34, the free hit chip and the DGW37 bench boost

The problem now is that I do not have enough weeks to build up a team for DG34 when many will be playing their WC in GW33. This is not as bad as it seems however, because I still have my FH chip to use which will be played in DG34. That way, I can use the upcoming free transfers between now and GW 35 and DGW37 to stock my roster for those weeks. Four teams have a fixture in GW35 and two fixtures in GW37: Arsenal, Newcastle, Man City and Swansea. Not a bad selection at all. I think I should be able to field a minimum of 8 players in GW35, more if I elect to take a hit or two.

The FH chip is great for DG34 because I can stock my team with 11 good players all with 2 games by filling the remaining slots with 4.0 or less players. Then in DGW37, I will use my BB chip with a full complement of players with 2 games probably using only 2 or 3 additional hits. I do not mind using hits in DGW’s because with two games at least 2 points of the four is covered but more importantly there remains a great deal of upside.

GW32 plans

So for GW32 I am going to begin preparing for GW’s 35 and 37 by acquiring Aubameyang and Monreal of Arsenal to take advantage of their two great home fixtures upcoming (Stoke, Southampton) but also to set up for GW35 and DGW37. Kane, who is a late fitness test for the match at Chelsea, and Davies who may or may not still be in a rotation, will exit until GW34 at the earliest but probably until GW36. Besides Chelsea this weekend, Spurs have Stoke fighting for survival at the Britannia in GW33, and Man City and Brighton in DGW34. The Man City game could be a tough one or a game against City’s B team if City has already won the title by then . Spurs have no fixture in GW35.

For this GW, I still intend to play my two City midfielders, David Silva and DeBruyne. I think these two mainstays of the City lineup will play every PL game until the title is officially won. That makes GW’s 35 and 37 riskier to hold City players, but I can say for certain both will play against United at home in GW33. My captain this week, as it has for about 10 weeks, will be Salah.

Here’s my team for FPL gameweek 32

The triple captain chip

You may have noticed I have not mentioned the TC chip which I still have. Unless another DGW opportunity pops up before GW37, I intend to play it in GW38 on a player vying for the scoring crown (Kane or Salah) or a player from a top five team still playing for a Champions League place pitted against a squad already relegated. This strategy has worked for me the last three years and yielded a big OR boost when others are out of chips. Last year the TC on Kane moved me from 44,000 to 21,000 in the final week.

But as we all know, the chip strategy only goes so far. Your player picks must come through on the field. Good luck to all in the final weeks between now and season’s end.
