FPL TEAMS GW11 – FFGEEK CONTRIBUTORS SHOW THEIR TEAMS

Here’s a reduced version of the 10 or so FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont covering early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

A poor score of 44(-4) for me last week during a gameweek that hinged on the swing of a left leg from Salah. His missed penalty cost me at least 14 points which would have most likely guaranteed a green arrow. I made the decision to transfer the injured Kane out for Morata who somehow failed to score but at least he returned an assist. Elsewhere, there was an assist for Lukaku, a clean sheet for Mee and a goal from Sterling after coming off the Man City bench.

It was an easy decision regarding my transfer this week once I saw that Kane was in the starting line-up for the game against Real Madrid on Wednesday. He was straight back into my team, replacing Jesus who was very disappointing last week. With the Spurs man coming in, it was an even easier captain decision; Harry will be wearing the armband this week.

Going forward, my defence will need cleaning up a little as Davies is a massive rotation risk and the fixtures are turning for Cresswell & Cedric. I also need to get Jones in my team as soon as possible; he will almost certainly be my transfer in next week.

Anyway, that’s a problem for the future. For now, good luck to everyone for this week and may your arrows be green!

GW10 review

After a couple of weeks of riding my luck, the bubble finally burst in GW10. It was my worst week of the season and one of my worst gameweeks of all time in terms of weekly rank. Ouch! The damage was done not so much in lack of returns (5/11 of my starters returned) but more in terms of negative points, points benched and points lost in a transfer out. Let’s survey the damage!

First of all the points lost. 5 bookings (including my captain) and a missed penalty. Well that doesn’t happen too often so we’ll put starting at minus 8 without taking a transfer hit before considering anything else down as a freak occurrence! To compound matters, my defensive transfer (Duffy for Wimmer) cost me 6 net points and I also had the indignity of leaving Danny Simpson’s clean sheet on the bench when I should have known better about Claude Puel’s tactics. So now I’ve had my hippo time, let’s look at the positives.

It’s the first really bad week I’ve had this season, I’ve been above average in all the others. While I’ve not had a ridiculously high score in an individual week yet, it shows that the core of the team is probably still ok. I think one of the worst things to do after a bad week is to be too reactive and succumb to rage transfers. I’ve done this in the past and they generally don’t work out. The other thing to note is that I did have 5/11 returns for my starting 11 – most weeks this will get you an above average score. Indeed I’ve had weeks earlier in the season where I’ve had 2 or 3 returns and scored better compared with the average.

What hurt me this week aside from the above, was the returns of other high ownership players and a failed captain pick. Not having a Man United defender is killing me at the moment with De Gea’s high ownership and Jones’ rising following. Sane is also starting to hurt OR. He’s the highest scoring player in the game and now has 20% ownership. If he continues to start regularly, I’ve got to consider bringing him in; likely for Sterling. Pascal Groß is the other rising ownership player who could hurt in the future and his consistency could steadily affect OR also. I’m not too down on my captain pick as it was the obvious week for a left-field pick to me, with there being no clear poll leader. It looks like there will be a clear front-runner this week also with 4 of the big 6 facing each other.

Harry Kane appears to be fit after he played the bulk of Spurs match in midweek. It’s also a Sunday kick-off against Palace affording an extra day’s recovery, so he’s straight back in to my team. Unfortunately, I’ve had to make the transfer pre- Friday press conferences because of price fluctuations – Jesus is the player who’s made way.

Kane will also be getting the armband this week. I do worry about his record against the lower teams a little and I also worry his minutes could be managed, but he’s going to be heavily backed this week so it’s too big a risk not to captain him. Salah will be my VC just in case Kane is totally rested. Looking further forward, I plan to bring in Jones for Davies for GW12 then if Sane continues his strong form find a way to bring him in for GW13 or 14.

My selection decision revolves around my defence. Otamendi and Davies are in then it’s one of Duffy or Simpson. I’m favouring the Brighton man, Swansea have been pretty goal-shy so far this season, but my earlier reference to Puel’s tactics does bring Simpson into play for The Foxes trip to The Brittania. It would leave me with a compromise with Choupo-Moting; I’ll decide on this one for sure on Friday night but I’m leaning towards Simpson. It might end up academic and they both play (as well as Ward) as there’s every chance Davies and Sterling could be rested. We’ll see!

Best of luck everyone for GW11 – may your arrows be green!

Punts punts punts. One week punts to be exact. I was warned they often don’t work and this week proved it. I brought in Sanchez and Morata for Hazard and Kane. I was blinded by Sanchez getting a haul v Swansea and, with his low ownership, it pushing me up the ranks whereas in reality it was another 2 points for my captain and a red arrow. Lesson learnt (until the next time!)

To be honest I was happy to do it I’m just annoyed I so easily sold Kane. Had the Sanchez punt not worked out, my original plan was him to Salah and bring Lukaku (who would have been sold to fund it) back next week whereas now I want to keep Morata so need to find another way to get Kane.

A -8 to tidy up my 2 week old wildcard feels like poor planning and it probably is but there we are. Davies (sold soon anyway as a rotation risk and I think he will be rested against Palace), Sanchez and Vardy to Jones (I needed Man U defence cover as it was killing my rank each time they got a clean sheet), Salah (another high ownership player) and Kane.

The big takeaway from this whole mess people is don’t be clever on your wildcard, if a player is performing, don’t wait till fixtures improve. Get them in.

Ok I’m done feeling sorry for myself. On to the team:

Elliot starts at home to Bournemouth. Easy choice as a depleted West Ham have Liverpool.

The defence could change drastically as all my 4.5’s have good fixtures. I will probably rely on clean sheet odds to decide. Jones v Morata also doesn’t make sense. I think Stones and Jones could both be on the bench.

The midfield picks itself. On paper they all have excellent fixtures; C-Moting possible the exception as I expect the Foxes to tighten up under Puel. The other mids have very obliging defences.

It’s back to the pricey front three. Kane and Lukaku both stay due to upcoming fixtures and Morata (who should have had a couple against Bournemouth) has excellent fixtures around the corner.

Good luck everyone I expect a red arrow this week but I hope yours are green!

Made two transfer this week for at hit.

Transfer out: Stones and Coutinho
Transfer in: Sané and Luiz

I don’t think Sane will be rested against Arsenal, but only Pep knows.
Luiz is a cheap way in to CHA defence, who from GW14 an forward have a very nice run of fixtures.

Kane (C), Jesus (VC)

Game week 10 was a decent if difficult gameweek. I brought in Sane who scored 12 points making the -4 I took to get him worthwhile. Morata meanwhile got an assist so I got points from both my transfers.

For the second week in a row I made a captain change at the last minute –going from Sane to Morata which cost me seven points. Up to now I have been very cognizant of spreading the risk in my team. I played three City players last week and at the last moment I did not captain Sane because I felt I was putting too much faith in a City result at the Hawthorns, and decided to go Morata instead. This begs the question as to when do you “go for it” and when do you play it more safely.

As a basic rule, one can never accurately predict the outcome of games no matter how we try. Who, for example, would have predicted Huddersfield beating United week before last? If you had played three United players in that game and captained one of them, you likely were going to have a major red arrow for the week. Because I have achieved a good rank early in the season (a first for me), I will try to continue to play in a disciplined, risk spreading manner, trying to make only those transfers that produce points per pound value going forward in order to try to free up funds to maintain my good defense, which (along with good luck in some picks) I believe more than any other factor has fueled my now seven straight green arrows.

This week, for the third time in five gameweeks, I will be taking a hit to bring in a striker (Kane) which I did twice before when Aguero and then Morata got injured. As I said last week, I am at this time no longer willing to invest big money (more than 10.0) on a City striker because of the rotation risk and because you cannot count on their minutes enough to captain them. So bye-bye Jesus and hello again Harry, who will be my captain at home to Palace.

My other transfer is Monreal out due to Arsenal’s schedule taking a decided turn for the worse, and Alberto Moreno in, the difference needed to pay for Kane who is 2.1 more expensive than Jesus. Moreno is not an every week player but Liverpool can get clean sheets when their pressing game overwhelms inferior opposition. West Ham this week might be just such a team. You may ask why I did not trade out Lukaku for Kane as many have done—well, as the focal point of the offense of the Premiership’s second or third best team, I believe Lukaku can get points in any match and has three excellent fixtures upcoming. So I did not want to have to take another hit to get him back.

Tough gameweek this one with Chelsea hosting United and City hosting Arsenal. Just remember—it’s only one week and there will be 27 left to move up.

Any result this week that keeps me near my current rank will be deemed a big success.
