FPL TEAMS GW15 – FFGEEK CONTRIBUTORS SHOW THEIR TEAMS

Here’s a version of the 10 or so FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont covering early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

There’s also the early FFGeek team thoughts article if you’re interested in my team and how the teams of 10 top FPL managers I follow are currently set up

The curse of random squad rotation struck in GW 14, though surprisingly it was Antonio Conte and Rafa Benitez that decided to bite us on the backside rather than an old FPL nemesis Mr Guardiola. Klopp tried to throw us a curve-ball as well, thankfully though Mr Salah was on fire for the 23 minutes he played.

I’d made an early decision that Chelsea defensive coverage was necessary with their amazing run coming up. This was the correct call. What I got incorrect unfortunately was my player choice. I went for the supposed security of Dave, a stalwart on The Blues team-sheet over the last couple of seasons. My second choice had been to bring in Courtois for Krul. Yep, I got this totally wrong, with Dave being rested and Elliot being dropped leaving me without a playing goalkeeper. Ultimately it was this decision that cost me a green arrow – the 6 points gained from a Courtois clean sheet would have likely given me a small rise. You win some you lose some – such is the life on an FPL manager!

So what went well? First up Salah and Sterling again – they’ve provided a lovely steady flow of points the last few weeks, the question I guess is where will it end? Kane scored again and there was a handy assist from Pogba. Finally I got my first clean sheet since GW11 through Shane Duffy. 5/10 returns in the end taking into account my non-playing keeper.

So what else went wrong? Morata was a massive captain fail with a late booking rubbing salt into the wounds of a blank. There was another blank from cheapie striker Wilson who assisted the assist in his game. The City defence let me down again, though Otamendi was perhaps unlucky not to be credited with a goal.

That’s twice the FPL powers-that-be have denied my team in the last couple of weeks after EMCM dubiously missed out on an assist a couple of weeks back. I hope this will even out over the season – maybe I’ll buy Gareth McAuley to help with that process! Finally there were blanks from Richarlison and Ward – not overly worried about these as they were hardly unexpected. So onto GW15, hopefully things will improve this weekend.

My major issue this week then is my lack of a goalkeeper so this will have to be remedied immediately. 2 options here – first up is use the £0.7m I have in the bank to get someone – this gives me up to £4.8m to play with. The list of keepers available for this and below aren’t desperately inspiring to be fair. Ryan is the standout for me, followed by Flapianski and Pope.

I don’t particularly want to double up on Brighton or Burnley defensive coverage however and I’m not entirely trusting of the Swans defence though the Pole does rack up good save points. With Pope, there’s also no return date on Heaton but this could be an issue when he’s fit needing another transfer later.

Option 2 is a points hit to bring in a premium keeper, EMCM would be downgraded to free up the funds. I’d consider one of 4 keepers – Courtois, David De Gea, Cech and Mignolet. At present I’m favouring this option and going for Courtois. De Gea faces Arsenal and City next, Cech likewise has the reverse of the former fixture and Mignolet; well I’m just not 100% sold on the Liverpool defence away from home at least. So it looks like I’ll go for Courtois and double up my Chelsea defence coverage. I’ll mull it over though and see what the Pressers say before making a final call.

Of my 2 keepers, I’ll probably sell Elliot to make the move and cash in on the £0.1m profit I’ll get from him being £4.2m, as his price will probably drop back at some stage. EMCM will be sold for a cheapie – I’ve got up to £5m to play with but I’ll probably go for Loftus-Cheek and leave a little bit in reserve. My plan will then be to either carry my GW16 transfer or to sell Otamendi for an Arsenal defender. I’ll possibly have enough funds after that to sell Ward for Jones if he’s fit which would give me the luxury of 3 premium defenders and a premium keeper going into Xmas! At some stage I’m also aware that I’ll have to sell Wilson before his nightmare fixture clump at GW17. He’ll be swapped for another cheapie.

My team for GW15 would then leave RLC, Ward and Duffy on the bench. At the moment I’ve got the armband on Salah but this could change. I’ll post on Twitter if it does. Best of luck everyone and may your arrows be green!

GW14 Summary

I’m still not quite sure how I feel about the events that transpired during the week, but in the end I think that I’m reasonably satisfied with a small red arrow after everything that happened. Transferring in a premium player like Hazard, only to see him benched when you captain him is not exactly ideal, especially when he comes on for a 1 point cameo. In the end, big performances from Sterling, Kolasinac and Salah helped me to an above average score. Overall, if you had offered me a place inside the top 100k a week ago, I would have bitten your hand off. Therefore, I’ve got to be happy with how the past couple of gameweeks have gone and my squad is definitely in a better place to tackle the hectic month of December.

GW15 Team

My transfers in recent weeks have mostly revolved around ensuring that I have a solid squad of 15 to deal with the inevitable upcoming rotation. It began with removing Jones & Carroll last gameweek and is continuing this week as I seek to remove Davies from my team. There is a decent chance that he plays this weekend, however, with Rose rapidly gaining match sharpness (he’s actually been one of the better performers for Spurs during their recent slump), he seems that he is going to play a maximum of 50% of PL games.

I could wait one more week but I’m changing him this week for the following reasons. I have no other issues in my team to address, his price will drop again before the weekend and his replacement will have a better fixture so I may as well make the transfer now. I’ve been deciding between Otamendi and Christensen, but I’ll be going for the City man due his place seeming more secure and having a better goal threat. Facing a shambolic West Ham at the Etihad this week, I’m hopeful for some positive returns.

Captaincy is a consistently tricky decision at the moment and there are 3 options for me this week; Hazard, Kane and Salah. I’m leaning towards Hazard currently due to his rest during the week which should mean he is primed to put in a big home performance which we know he likes to do. I’m a little worried about the form of Spurs, despite Watford’s troubles against the big teams, which puts me off Kane. Regarding Salah, I really need to start taking him seriously as captain option. Nonetheless, I am steering clear for this week as Brighton have proved a tough nut to crack, especially at home. Hence, Hazard gets the armband and hopefully he’ll repay me for his midweek benching.

Looking Ahead

The team is in good shape in my opinion with the only slight worry being Niasse and whether Big Sam will restore him to the starting XI after his suspension. Though Rooney did score an impressive hat-trick, he was playing in a deeper position so hopefully Niasse slots straight back into the striker role. He has proven himself as a goal threat off the bench regardless but this is a situation to monitor.

Captaincy is another issue; GW14 was a clear indication that we cannot expect our premium players to start every week over the festive season. I was punished by Hazard this week and I am hoping to avoid this happening again. Hopefully, Hazard and Salah have had their rests now but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them benched again at some point. Going forward, I will be keeping a close eye on the recent minutes of captaincy candidates and, if in doubt, I will look to Kane for the armband as someone who is surely guaranteed to start every week.

Anyway, let’s hope that we don’t see masses of rotation in GW15; best of luck to all and may your arrows be green!

Last week was a disaster of sorts, and I knew it would be bad from the outset once lineups came out. I am hoping to do better this week. Only one transfer, Andreas Christiansen in for Daniels. Even though Bournemouth has gotten three clean sheets out of four, they were only convincing in the win over Huddersfield. Chelsea‘s defense looks much better and foremost good fixtures only last this week and next, so this is a longer-term play. Captain choice is a tossup between Kane and Salah but given Watford’s porous defense at home, I will probably go with Kane. I want to diversify away from Chelsea with my captain choice, since I will be playing three Chelsea players. I would love to place the armband on a Man City player, if I only knew which one.

Another week another hit (at least this week it’s just a -4!) . But finally I look at my team and really like the shape of it. The -8 this week didn’t return immediately but I prefer it long term. Happy to have Morata, Hazard, Alonso for their run over xmas.

Captain fail and -8 but only a small read arrow so pretty happy.

This weeks transfer; Elliott dropping and Hart playing his parent club so not eligible (not to mention being in an awful team!) meant a keeper transfer. I decided Pope, and a double up of Burnley, was the best value. I needed to realise some funds so cashed in the 0.3 on Ward and replaced him with Tarkowski.

The weak-link may now be Niasse and if he can get a start after Everton’s good win over West Ham. Tarkowski may start ahead of Mustafi.

So many good captains this week. Hazard/Salah surly start for their teams after there rest. Kane due to no other options for Spurs must also start. Even sterling has to put his hand up due to form. And not forgetting Morata. Hazard gets the armband at present.

Good luck all.

This month’s been brutal for me! My form has been akin to Arsenal’s November history.

Looking forward to better December with a busy schedule.
