FPL TEAMS GW24 – FFGEEK CONTRIBUTORS SHOW THEIR TEAMS

Here’s a version of the 10 or so FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont covering early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

GW23 review

I was pretty happy with my GW23 score in the end, a week where I was expecting worse and took a hit. A little frustrated as well – leaving my team as it was would have gained me another 5 points net having transferred out Son. You’ve got go love FPL and the way that fate conspired sometimes!

Points were spread around the team this week. There was a double Chelsea clean sheet and another 6 points for Jones. There was even a random bonus point for Duffy despite losing 2-0.

Salah was superb again though he was eclipsed by the might of Arnie in midfield. Captain Kane was also on form bagging a handy 26 points again, nice!

For once my City players flopped, scoring nil pois between them. The other flops were Richarlison and Morata. The latter is also now suspended after picking up a silly red card in the FA Cup. Why Alvaro, why?

Gw24 team

Morata needs to go then and it’s a straight fight between Aguero and Firmino for a replacement. I’d need a -4 for Aguero with DCL or Richarlison the collateral but I have other plans for both later on.

I like Firmino’s Shield potential with his massive ownership in the upper echelons of the league. This combined with the fact that Salah and Kane are going to be my likely go to captain options for most of the rest of the season; plus the bonus of not having to take a hit means that the Brazilian gets the nod this week.

It’s a little risky though – Aguero has 2 lovely fixtures coming up and my main mini league rivals all have him. I hope this doesn’t bite me on the backside and I don’t get lumbered with ‘Failmino’ as he is sometimes dubbed on Twitter! Fingers crossed!

Team selection this week: 4-4-2 again and with the news of Salah being ill emerging on Friday afternoon, I’ve gone for Kane as captain again. Next week I’d like to carry my transfer if possible, leaving me 3 transfers to use over GW26 and 27 which are all packed fairly close together.

Good luck all – it’s my birthday this weekend so I’m hoping for a nice present of another green arrow. I hope you all get the same too!

 GW23 Summary

My GW23 story was similar to many other FPL managers as I became very grateful that I kept the double gameweek players that disappointed me last week. Two of the more successful players from that week, Son and Arnautovic, both returned big hauls while Kane scored a brace as my captain after his triple captain fail. Despite playing against Man City, there was yet another double figure haul for Salah – add fixture proof to his FPL abilities this season! The other positive was a 13th clean sheet of the season for United in the Monday night game so more points for Jones.

On the more worrying side was the benching of Christensen and the disappointing performance of Sterling on his return to Anfield; though the form of the latter over the season means there is no way that I will be losing faith. However, the main issue in my team is Morata who blanked for the 7th time in 8 games and was certain to be leaving my team, even before his red card in the League Cup on Wednesday.

Overall, it was a pretty decent GW23 for my team with a 7k green arrow which allowed me to crack the top 20k for the first time this season. Looking forward, I would like to consolidate over the next few weeks until the blank and double gameweeks arrive, then aim for ascent further up the rankings.

GW24 Team

I had two things that I really wanted to correct in my team this week; getting Morata out of it and getting Alonso into it. The red card for the striker made the decision to remove him from my team even easier and he will be the sacrifice to bring his teammate him. I have decided that I can no longer watch Chelsea matches without Alonso in my team; every game he seems to be positioned frighteningly far forward. In addition, he faces a Brighton side who have conceded the most goals from set-pieces this season and Alonso is a serious threat from free-kicks and corners.

I had two paths that I could go down with the Morata money; bring in the increasingly popular Firmino or shift the money into midfield and move to a 4-5-1 formation. The first option was definitely the safer option as the Brazilian’s ownership has soared over the last few weeks. However, I worry about the lack of striker choice if Firmino fails to continue his run of form and, with the number of quality players available in midfield, I decided that it would be a good strategy to maximise my funds in midfield.

Regarding the striker that I’m looking to bring in, I was looking to spend around 5mil which only really left Crouch, Ayew and Niasse as options. I was hoping that we would hear some transfer news about Niasse because he would definitely have been my choice. In the end, I chose Crouch who has some great fixtures and seems to be reasonably secure in the Stoke team, more due to lack of other options in the squad admittedly.

The struggling Richarlison, who hasn’t scored since GW12, will also be leaving my team and I have three possibilities to replace him – De Bruyne, Mahrez and Mané. The benefit of bringing either of the latter two in is that I can take out Kenny instead of removing Christensen, which would allow a double-up on arguably the strongest defence in recent weeks. On the other hand, KDB has some cracking fixtures on the horizon and has the highest PPG out of the three. In the end, I’ve gone for Mahrez as he is great form and I like the idea of double Chelsea defence, plus it gives me some cash in the bank. Moreover, the news that Coleman is back in training suggests Kenny won’t be in the team much longer while an injury to Cahill should keep Christensen’s place secure for now.

It’s the classic captaincy dilemma of this season for me in GW24; Salah vs Kane. They both have great away fixtures this weekend and are in fantastic form. It really is a coin toss and I think the decision may come down to this – the highest points scorer, Salah, is playing against the team at the bottom of the league, Swansea. However, the news about his illness on Friday has worried me slightly, especially after Kane’s illness when I used the triple captain on him. Nonetheless, the armband remains on the Egyptian as I feel that I have enough exposure to the Spurs’ attack with Son also in my team.

Looking Ahead

The focus over the next few weeks will be turning towards the blank and double gameweeks. In fact, part of my reasoning for bringing in Mahrez and Crouch is that they both have fixtures in GW28 and the latter also definitely has a game in GW31, as does my next transfer target, Wilson, who I’m hoping to replace Calvert-Lewin with.

Asides from that, I like the look of my team for the next few weeks, though the tough fixtures for Son are concern; he could become Pogba in GW26. Hopefully the current team will pay off this week as I’ve taken my first hit in a non-double gameweek since GW14.

Best of luck to everyone this weekend and may your arrows be green!

Another pleasing green arrow. The Christmas period has worked out well and led to a decent rank around 4K. With this in mind I moved early with my transfers to gain extra team value. Ricarlison and Morata (who both dropped in price) out for the return of Salah and Firm (who both rose in price).

These moves have left me with a very template team. I’m fine with that. Templates move fast and I have a few plans over the next few weeks to get a few differentials in. I’ll aim to roll my transfer next week and assess the new signings and a few players who are performing well.

Dropping Salah was a calculated risk; it cost me 0.5 in team value but I gained 8 points. Was it worth it? I think so. Just.

The team selection is pretty easy this week. Benching Kenny seems a shame but I don’t want to drop anyone so nice to have a good first sub!

Captain. Wow that’s tricky this week! Likely go Kane to play it safe but a last minute move to Salah may happen.

Was considering adding City coverage (KdB) or getting Mahrez for Lingard, but these aren’t necessary moves. I’ll rather have 2 FTs going into next week, when the Sanchez drama gets resolved. He could be an instant buy, but will require downgrading somewhere else. So staying put for now. Kane (c)
