FPL TEAMS GW27 – FFGEEK CONTRIBUTORS SHOW THEIR TEAMS

Here’s a version of the 10 or so FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont covering early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

GW26 review

I guess I’m going to have to talk about it then. The elephant in the room that is GW26 (Facepalm.) Why did it all go so wrong…again?

It started with the early kick-off. A blank for captain Aguero, a terrible miss from Sterling (shoe-in for Donkey of the Month in my monthly review next week) and a lost clean sheet for Otamendi. It got worse at 2pm – the glass-legged Jones mysteriously posted missing, misery compounded at 450pm with a missed United clean sheet and blanks from the rest of my 3pm crew. Sunday afternoon – a return! Oh wait, it’s Salah and I’ve not captained him that’ll cost me 20k or so. Kane also returned but also missed a penalty, costing us 6 points and probably 2 bonus as well. Monday night – where is Alonso? Given the night off as Chelsea capitulated giving me 1 point from Courtois and 2 from Richarlison who failed to return, got hooked early and booked for his troubles. All in all 2/11 returns, 2 no-shows and to compound things yet another goal from a player I transferred out as DCL grabbed a consolation as The Toffees got gubbed by Arsenal.

It’s fair to say it’s been an awful few weeks for my team, seeing me plummet nearly 100k places after slowly and patiently working my way into the top 100k. Without resorting to profanity (and as you all know we’re a family site here at FFG) I’ve run out of negative descriptions for my team’s gameweek performance of late. It’s been really frustrating!

It’s interesting how getting 50-50 calls wrong can end up costing you for a few weeks afterwards, a bit of an FPL snowball effect if you. This is certainly the case with regards to my decision to keep Kane a few weeks ago. If I’d sold him for Aguero, I’d have got the latter’s hat-trick points that week and then would have likely captained Salah in the weeks following, cashing in double on his returns. It’s the fragile life of the FPL manager and sometimes you get it wrong. The important thing is not to be overly reactive and secondly to stay patient and plan. The season always has bad weeks, it’s just unfortunate that 3 of these have come in succession. No point in looking back any more, let’s move on to GW27.

GW27 Team

This is the last week of this fixture clump before things turn towards the next obvious major change point which is the big blank week that will be GW31. I’m planning for this now, but I haven’t 100% decided on my strategy yet. My initial plan was to use my Free Hit in GW31 and this is still a good option. However I’m wary of the blank GW35 and the lack of flexibility this week could offer with the likely big double the week before. Much will depend on the FA quarter final line-up which we’ll mostly know prior to GW28. My plan therefore is to hold 2 Free Transfers going into GW28 and go from there. This will give me 5 transfers before GW31 and the flexibility I need for either strategy.

Unfortunately that down side of this is that I’m stuck with the same squad that has let me down over the last 3 weeks for another week! I’m hoping they’ll do a bit better this week but I’m not holding high hopes and won’t be surprised if I get another week of pain seeing me slip out of the Top 200k. Ok, maybe I’m being a bit pessimistic!

Courtois will be in goal and hopefully might do a bit better than at Vicarage Road on Monday. Hopefully Alonso will be fit this week, I seem to have missed all his attacking returns so far – I think I’ve jinxed him. I’m also hoping ‘Glass Phil’ is back and they’ll join Otamendi in my back line. Sterling and Salah will be joined by the point-shy Richarlison (who has a stay of execution based on having a GW31 fixture.) I’m gambling on Tom Carroll for my 4th mid after a good display in midweek. Kane, Aguero and Wilson make up the front-line in a more traditional FPL 3-4-3.

It’s between Aguero and Salah for captain this week and I’m going for the Egyptian, if only to offer some degree of ranking protection. If there’s any changes based on Press Conference news, I’ll tweet. Hopefully, the rot will stop this week but I’m mindful it might not happen until I wield 2 or even 3 transfers at my team and I’m not keen to do that until I have more information regarding GW31.

All the best for this week folks – may your arrows be green!

 GW26 Summary

It was a very peculiar week in GW26 as I had only 3/11 returners with 2 elite defenders benched, a missed penalty and no clean sheets, but still somehow claimed a green arrow despite taking a hit. There was one man to thank in the main for that result and that was Salah who bagged a brace in an enthralling game at Anfield. As a Spurs fan, it did hurt to see the Eygptian slotting those goals in, but the blow was certainly softened by having the armband on him, so my win-win strategy was a success!

In the end, Salah scored over half of my points as only Shaqiri and Kane also returned, though the latter did miss a penalty as well. It’s always pleasing when your budget midfielder scores and it means that I will be show some patience with the Stoke man over the next couple of weeks with their decent fixtures.

There was a fair amount of disappointment elsewhere as my City assets let me down, though both KDB and Sterling were a little unlucky not to return, especially Sterling who missed an absolute sitter. I had high hopes for Wilson who was my transfer in this week, but he blanked despite some chances which was a similar story for Son. Similar to many other managers, my defence was an absolute shambles which only returned 5 points after both Alonso and Jones missed out. Nevertheless, thanks to Salah, it was a satisfactory gameweek with another green arrow after taking a hit.

GW27 Team

I mentioned last week that I was looking to hold my transfer this week so that I can reassess the blank and double gameweek situation after the FA cup games and draw before GW28. I am convincing myself more and more than I would like to save my free hit chip for GW35, so I will need to use my free transfers to bring in players that don’t blank in GW31.

There is a little worry about rotation in my back line for Alonso, Jones and Otamendi, but I expect all of them to play and I’d be extremely shocked if more than one was rotated. Nonetheless, the fixtures look good throughout the team and my bench appears reasonably strong so there is no need to waste a transfer that may be required for GW31. The order of the bench is almost the trickiest decision this week as it may be needed; after Crouch’s start last week and with Brighton’s poor record from corners, he’ll be first on the bench followed by Robertson and Dunk.

There is, of course, still the captaincy dilemma and it’s a straight shootout between Salah and Kane once more. The Spurs man plays in the North London derby at lunchtime on Saturday, which is fixture that he loves to score in and my heart says to place the armband on him. However, I will be deploying a similar strategy to last week. As a Spurs fan, I will be delighted if Kane scores big on Saturday as it should mean a win for us and if he doesn’t do so well, I can take a little comfort in the fact that I didn’t captain him. Therefore, I suspect that I will use the ‘shield’ option once again and place the armband on Salah; here’s hoping that he can continue the magic against Southampton!

Looking Ahead

Once this gameweek is out of the way, I will be keeping a very close eye on the FA cup ties and will then begin to plan my way through the blanks and doubles. If I do choose to hold the free hit through GW31, then I will likely be moving on my defenders before the attackers. My big name players have good fixtures and form still so I would prefer to hold onto them as long as possible. It is going to be a very interesting period and I look forward to the developments; hopefully I can enter into it from a top 20k position!

Best of luck to everyone this weekend and may your arrows be green!

FPL Word is one of the top 10 FPL managers I follow

I have 2FTs, but only want to use one to have more flexibility next week. I’m torn between getting my team ready for BGW31 (I want to play my FH in BGW35) and what happens till then. Looking to drop Ogbonna as I also have Adrian and WHU were really poor defensively lately. I can spend 4.6m. I can get Stoke’s Bauer (they play in BGW31 and he’s the only cheap and nailed-on def from Stoke).

But I could also get Fernandez from Swansea — they have great fixtures and have tightened up lately, but don’t play in BGW31.
Dropping Lingard is another thing I was considering (for Deulofeu or Doucoure), but I’m giving him another chance.
Next week I’ll probably sell Adrian to get Karius and downgrade Lingard to Doucoure or some other cheaper mid who’ll have a game in BGW31.
In the end made Bauer for Ogbonna

Like a lot of managers who follow this site, I had a bad GW26 redeemed only by my choice of Salah as captain. I have now had 6 straight red arrows, and 7 red arrows out of 8 which has seen my OR fall from 7800 to 25,400. I am so frustrated that I cannot seem to pull my team out of its shallow nosedive.

My transfers last weekend were a bust. Callum Wilson blanked and Anthony Martial did not even start! My reading of the Manchester United attack turned out all wrong at least for now. Sanchez when played as a No.10 did not pair well with Lukaku and it seemed they both wanted the same space. Sanchez wants to play on the left so he can go goalward on his right foot; Martial when played on the right looked completely lost.

But Sanchez comes in from the left into center so much he was practically bumping into Lingard who also now looks lost. It will be interesting to see if Mourinho can sort this cluster out. In any event, I am giving Martial one more week and Lingard may go this week in favour of Deulofeu. He plays in GW 31 so he is at least a four week keeper.

My goalkeepers stink. Adrian is on the business end of a defence that looks helpless; I have been losing big points at this position. Fabianski has a nice run of fixtures and costs only 4.6; I am tempted by Pope but Heaton is back and may see time in goal. Elliott is hurt and now third string.

Then there is my once vaunted defence. Otamendi looks ripe for rotation this week. Alonso has been a bust for me so far and costs way too much.

I would love to do a wildcard but if I have held on this long I might as well hold out until GW 3. I have to realise that I have all my special chips left which others don’t, so I still have a realistic chance of finishing in the top 10k.

Captain is Salah. Lineup below. I still may elect to substitute Otamendi for Kyle Walker instead of Deulofeu for Lingard, or do both, before gametime tomorrow.
