McDonalds UEFA Euro 2016 Fantasy Football tips – looking for value in defence

Euro 2016

Here’s our McDonalds UEFA  Euro 2016 fantasy football tips where we look at the best defenders for each team.  However given the short nature of the Group stage we’ve concentrated on value rather than attacking potential. This will also give you more funds for the Lewandoski’s and Ronaldo’s of the tournament

So here’s our table of the best defenders for the McDonalds format.  It’s slightly different in that rather than giving stats on the Euro qualifiers we’ve given more detail on their club season for 15/16.  We’ve ordered them by what I think are their clean sheet prospects for the Group stage.

So we’ve looked for the cheapest player without completely sacrificing their gametime prospects.  However the warning is that players are cheap for a reason and that in the main is due to lack of attacking prospects but more relevant in this case is their gametime prospects are not as sure.  So if you’re looking for value there’s always a risk.

Also remember that the ranking is based on 3 games.  There’s the chance to Wildcard and most will do it after Group stage 1 or Group stage 2.

There’s still some friendlies to go with the last one on Wednesday.  I’ll be updating all the tables after that.

So here’s the table.  The stats are clear so no key needed.  I’ve made a comment on a few of the notable players involved

Comment on a few players:

There are a few players worth a special mention

Rami France

With Varane out of the tournament there’s a place for a CB to partner Koscielny.  That will either be Mangala or Rami.  Rami has started the last 2 friendlies and has to be the favourite.  Remember we will see the France team sheet too before the tournamnt starts.  Go for Koscielny at £6.0m if you don’t want to take a risk or can’t be around for the lineup announcement.

Rudiger Germany

Hummels and Boateng if fit are the definite starters.  However Hummels has a claf injury but is in the squad.  He’s expected to be out for 1 or 2 games.  Worth a punt in my mind for the price.  Rudiger has started the last 2 friendlies.  Go for Hector at £5.5m if you don’t want the risk

Denayer Belguim

This is a bit more perpexing and down to the injury of Kompany who isn’t in the squad.  There’s some words from the coach which suggest he will play and he started and played the full 90 in the friendly against Finland.  Belguim play today in their last friendly and whether he will line up or not will be crucial.  Play Vertonghen if you don’t want to take a risk.

Ramos Spain

Juanfran at £5.5m is the value but has competition from Azplicueta and Bellerin for the RB spot.  Their last friendly is Tuesday and that will be interestig. Before that I’ve stcuk with Ramos.  He is the conundrum of a goal and card magnet

Cathcart – Northern Ireland

If you’re looking for £4.5m defenders Cathcart of NI is one. NI have no more friendlies but having started the last 2 he looks like he will start if the injury he went off with isn’t serious

John Stones – England

The CB who thinks he’s Johan Cruyff is great value at £4.5m.  However with Cahill playing the last friendly and Stones a risky bet in a tournament then he seems a very risky bargain
