Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW5 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 5 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 5 Picks

Banker – Romelu Lukaku (MAN 11m) – wat

Big Rom has served a reminder of his capability of bullying lesser teams, both at club level in GW4 with 2 goals versus Burnley and for Belgium internationally this week with 3 goals across the games versus Scotland and Iceland. Watford away is a tough start to the next run of 4 fixtures, but the 3 after that are easier and with only 7.8% ownership he could offer a decent differential over the next few weeks if you can afford to work him into your team.

Ace – Sergio Aguero (MCI 11.3m) – FUL

Kun gets the Ace spot for the second GW in a row as he continues to dominate Player Picks. He should be fresh after a rest over the international break and City have a favourable fixture against a Fulham side that have conceded 9 goals in 4 games so far this season. Now the most owned player in the game at 51.5%, it will be difficult to overlook him as a captain pick this week, especially with his historically explosive returns. Arguably an essential FPL player at the moment.

Joker – Matt Doherty (WOL 4.4m) – BUR

For my left-field pick this week it’s an uber-differential, 0.7% owned Wolves defender Doherty. Wolves were very mean defensively last season in The Championship and their GW4 shut-out away to West Ham showed that they’re starting to adjust to life at English football’s top table. Burnley at home looks a good shout for a clean sheet and possibly a return from Doherty at right wing-back. With his low price, he could be a nice filler for some of those Wildcard squads this week.

That’s all from me this week folks and good luck!
