Sky Sports fantasy football – captain confusion

Sky Sports FF

Well what I feared would happen in Sky Sports Fantasy football actually did.  My change of captain from Ramsey to Soldado before the deadline on Saturday counted as 1 transfer and when I went to change it for RVP I was told only 1 captain change per gameweek.  Hmm…  So what does this mean

Rules from the Sky Sports Fantasy Football site:

Firstly on the  Sky Sports Fantasy Football site under Terms and Conditions:

CAPTAIN CHANGES: Managers are allowed 1 captain change per Game week. Game weeks run from Saturday to Friday. Captain changes must be made before the earliest Premier League kick off that day to qualify for that day’s play; any captain changes made after the earliest Premier League kick off will start scoring from the next day. The nominated captain will score double points both positive and negative.

Here’s some notes under the Sky Sports fantasy football “How to play” section:

Captain Changes

New for this season – you can now make a captain change within the Game week. Just like transfers, you can make this alteration for any match day, thus giving you the opportunity to score double points from two of your players over the duration of the Game week.

A Game week starts on Saturday at 00.01am and runs till the following Friday.

Captain changes must be made before the earliest kick off that day, e.g.: prior to the first kick-off on the Saturday. Captain changes made after the earliest kick off will carry over and start scoring from the next match day of the Game week.

Captains will still score double – be it positive or negative.

With two lots of double points on offer, changing your captain can have obvious benefits. Choosing when and how to change it is up to you: here’s a couple of scenarios…

You have Robin Van Persie in place as captain prior to Saturday’s matches. He scores you double points on that day and, that evening you elect to change your captain to Eden Hazard – Hazard plays on Sunday and can therefore also earn you double points in the Game week. However, having made a change, you no longer have the option to change your captain for any match taking place on Monday night or later in the Game week.

You have Robin Van Persie in place as captain for Saturday’s matches. He scores you points on that day and, rather than elect to change your captain to a player in action on Sunday, you switch your captaincy to Santi Cazorla. He plays on Monday night, allowing you to score double points from his performance in addition to Van Persie’s double tally from Saturday.

Transferring Out Your Captain
If you choose to transfer out your captain at any stage, the player that comes in will automatically be assigned as your new captain. Using this tactic, you can change your captain without using one of your allocated Gameweek changes, however, should you wish to move the captaincy following the transfer, you will need to use up a captain change.

My interpretation

Ok from my own experience and trying to interpret the rules this is now how I interpret the rule:

You can have 2 captains in 1 gameweek but only if you keep the captain from the previous gameweek as your first captain in the new gameweek

So I’ m now stuck with Soldado for gameweek 3.  He plays on Sunday so now I can’t have 2 captains in the gameweek because if I do it will count as my captain change.  If I were to change to Silva for the GW3 home game against Hull that would count as my captain change.

Assuming I stick with Soldado,  however,  for gameweek 4 (gameweek 5 on Sky Sports Fantasy Football?  ) Soldado plays on Saturday against Norwich and I can then switch the captaincy to Lucas for the Monday game against Swansea, therefore getting 2 captains in the game week.

Just one thing to clarify to completely understand it.  If on Friday before  gameweek 3 opens I try and change the captain to Silva I’m assuming it will refuse to allow me on the basis that I’ve used my captain change already in GW2.  Even if it did allow me I’m assuming I wont then be able to change it to say RVP for the Sunday game.

Simple?

This means you need to follow through your captain choices to maximise Saturday and Sunday changes

I’m convinced I’m now right but any other views would be welcome.  I’ve written to Sky Sports Fantasy  football for clarification as well and will tell you the outcome

Thanks and good luck to everyone today in Sky Sports Fantasy Football
