Here’s an update on our Sky Sports fantasy football team and some captain planning
SKY SPORTS FANTASY FOOTBALL – TRANSFERS AND CAPTAIN PLANNING FOR THE FFGEEK TEAM
FFGEEK TEAM UPDATE
Here’s the FFGeek team:
Overall rank: 122 Total Points: 2330 Transfers left 5
At my last update I was at 126 overall. It looks like nothing has changed but that couldn’t have been more wrong. I drfited around the 200’a but a captaining success for Firmino and then Sanchez in the last 2 games have moved me back to the same position. Still haven’t got into the top 100.
So what next?
The pro active approach
I’ve conceptually got 2 choices here. I can in some way pretty much cover every captain requirement. However I prefer to use the 4 players as captains (Aguero, Lukaku, Sanchez and Firmino) but to cover the rest of the season I will have to go to all areas of the team and it relies on Rose not getting fit to replace Davies.
Given that I could try and take pre-emptive action and make a schedule which works and which also maximises the players who have an extra game. I think that could be possible although it would require alot more thought than I’ve done now. You’ll see the captain planning below but in essence my weknesses outside the 4 players are Southampton (Romeu is the default), Spurs (Davies until Rose is fit) and Chelsea (Alonso). The optimum captains for those teams would be Gabbiadini Southampton, Kane Spurs and Hazard Chelsea. This strategy is the riskier of the 2 but has the most potential upside. It would take planning right through the season , optimising when to make the transers and see how they flow through to the rest of the season. The risk is that at the end of the season when injuries or rotation occurs you can’t react and lose a captain potential. However by then you’ve burned your transfers trying to maximise the captain and number of games position.
The reactive approach
As I can cover the captain position in some way or another the approach would be to hold the transfers and wait until the need arises through injury or rotation. If the transfers don’t get used then they can be maximised at the end. This is the safest route and means less chance of running out of players to be captains. It doesn’t however maximise those with additional games. At the moment I have 5 players in Heaton, Arter, Firmino, Gueye and Lukaku who don’t have additional fixtures.
The reactive strategy just sits there reacting whereas the other options would proactively try and replace these players to maximise additional games while still trying to cover the captain position. The proactive option is very all or nothing and relies on minimal rotation and injuries to get you through.
Well at least I don’t need to make a decision this minute. The conservative player in my naturally leans to the latter
