Sky Sports Fantasy Football – Potential Bargains Part 2

Sky Sports FF

So here’s the 2nd part of my sky sports fantasy football bargains.  Another 6 clubs done and 1  more part to go.

Ive repeated the context below of this article for people who havent read the 2 articles in order.  Remember these tips can change in their importance as transfers happen. Don’t worry though in the week before the opening game I will review all teams, including Sky sports fantasy football potential bargains,  so will be updated

Here’s the context again then:

With quality over all the premier league this season and the likes of Rooney and  Aguero looking near must haves in our Sky Sports Fantasy Football team, finding value elsewhere is going to be essential.  Here’s the second of a series of articles  identifying  value in a player (ie a potential bargain)  after looking through all  teams in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football format.

I’m doing them in the best fixture order in my article  “fantasy premier league – analysing the opening 6 rounds of fixtures”.  See at bottom of page.  For those who need a reminder of the rules see my article “Sky Sports Football Summary and key points”.  Again the link is at the bottom of the page

Generally players will be value for the following reasons:

(1)  Injuries to another player or a transfer of another player from the club has given them unexpected game time

(2)  Sky Sports Fantasy Football believes they may not be first choice for their position

(3)  They have transferred in from a lower ranked team.

With no reserves and limited transfers in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football format its vital that value is weighed up against the risk of the player not playing.  Therefore,  value players in your team should be thought about carefully and I wouldn’t start with 8 but a well chosen sprinkle may be necessary.

Rest assured we at fantasy football geek  will be keeping an eye out in pre-season for their prospects.  By the way for this article I will ignore out of position players as I will be doing a separate piece on these players.  Out of position is a player who plays, say, as a forward but is classified as a midfielder in the Sky Fantasy Football game.

Here goes then. Remember it goes from best opening 6 fixtures to the worst. Part 2 here will concentrate on the 6 teams next teams with the worst opening 6 games in Sky sports fantasy football

Everton

Tim Cahill – midfield (£5.6m)

He’s suspended for the first 3 games after the bust up on the last day of the season and last year was a disaster form wise.  From 28 starts and 8 sub appearances he scored a miserly 2 goals and 2 assists and his underlying shot stats were terrible, probably the worst of the entire Everton midfield.  However if you believe form is temporary and  that class is permanent than 5.6m is an absolute steal.  However go back 1 season further  and he scored 9 goals and 3 assists from 22 starts plus 5 as sub.  Could play as the most forward midfielder just behind Jelavic.  Looks a real potential bargain if he can get his form back.  Monitor him in sky sports fantasy football once he starts back

Nikica Jelavic – striker (£8.1m)

I’m bias as I’m a big fan. According to Sky Sports fantasy football there are 20 strikers better than him. that’s just ridiculous. A reasonably good shot ratio and a good on target % as a high proportion of shots are taken in the box. 9 goals in 13 games says it all. 7th best fixtures.

WBA

Nothing stands out here.

Newcastle

Davide Santon – defender(£5.3m)

I’m  personally not a fan of the Newcastle defence.  I think they overperformed on their underlying stats thanks to an incredible home defence and if Im honest I don’t think it will be repeated. However  if you believe in their defence Santon seems very good value compared to Coloccini at £6.9m, Simpson at £6.3m and Steven Taylor at £6.0m.  Santons record reads 19 games plus 2 at sub for 8 clean sheets.  That’s a better ratio than Newcastles impressive 15 overall.  More importantly towards the end of the season he had taken the place of Ryan Taylor.  Attacking stats were poor with just 1 assist but his performances to me suggest more is coming.  Hes priced keenly overall as well.  He’s the same sort of price as players with teams that are doubtful over game time such as Gallas and Distin or players in poorer teams such as Alcaraz.  A good buy if you believe in the Newcastle defence this season

Manchester United

All the big clubs have potential value its just working that out at day 1. Manchester Utd have too many uncertainties how they will line up where the value may be.  Ferdinand has potential at £6.8m compared to the other centre backs in the 7s but with Vidic back will he turn to Evans who had such a good season last season.  Even if he does stick with Ferdinand how much rotation will there be.  The right back position offers value with Rafael at £6.6m but he’s at the Olympics at Jones is probably the most likely starter right back.  In the midfield the 3 on the flanks of Nani Valencia and Young all will be rotated.  Kagawa looks well pried at £7.6 and there is a definite vacancy in midfield but Valencia looks a safer bet at £7.9m even allowing for rotation.  Up front Hernandez is significantly cheaper at £7.8m compared to Rooney and Welbeck in the 9s but with SAF talking Welbeck up and targeting him with 20 goals then you’ve got to believe he will start.

So after all that no value for the starting line up but value will appear as the season goes on.

Fulham

Nothing here really, Frei may provide a cheap filler if you’re absolutely desperate but is underlying stats don’t suggest anything and he gave no returns in 6 games last year.  Upfront Rodallega and Petric are keenly value at £6.7 and £6.8m respectively.  Petric is the 53rd most expensive striker in Sky sports fantasy football way behind the likes of Helguson and Fortune.  Fulham are a very attacking team and there is definite potential there.  Its just which one of them will play?  or will they both play?  The situation needs monitoring but its too difficult to pick one now

Wigan

Di Santo – striker (£7.5m)

Reasonably expensive in relation to his Wigan team mates and maybe if you are putting a Wigan player in you would go for Moses at £6.9 in your midfield.  However Di Santo is only the 38th most expensive striker in Sky sports fantasy football . Jamie Mackie and Steve Morison are more expensive and with Rodallega gone he should play.  His record was nothing too flash,  7 goals in 32 games but his shooting stats were good, just his ability to hit the target that was questionable.  He should be improved for a run of games last season

So that’s part 2 done for Sky Sports Fantasy football bargains.  4 new players from 6 teams and some ideas for others once the season starts.  Ill have the 3rd and last part in the coming days.
