Sky Sports fantasy football returns to FFGeek – rule review and a quick draft team

Rule review

I’ve presented it in categories which probably  reflect FPL more closely than any other format as a frame of reference.

Premier league games only

cut off before games kick off so good for line up checks

40 transfers per season.   no monthly limit on transfers.  You can transfer mid game week

Double points captain and you can change him once mid gameweek having a captain on Saturday and one on Sunday or Monday.  If you transfer the captain after say Sunday the new player will be captain for the Monday game (if he has a game)

No wildcard

No substitutes

Player values don’t  change

No vice captain

3-4-3 is allowed.

No limits on players from anyone team

Every position has same points (5) for a goal.  Assists can be for more than 1 player.

Save points for GKs

High goals against points

Pass and tackle points to allow a defensive midfielder to be an option

No clean sheet points for midfielders

Man of the match points no guidelines though

Clean sheet rule is 75 minutes on the pitch to be eligible.

The lack of subs and the negative points for goals conceded for Defs and Gks mean you need to try and pick players in defence who are automatic choices and in the main from top 6 teams that dont concede as many goals.

The pass and tackle bomus is very useful and players like Barry and Arteta  that you wouldnt really consider for FPL can really generate points.

There’s unhelpfully nothing on the site that talks about any rule changes that I can see.  The only change I can see is the addition of 3-4-3 as a formation and the ability for more than 1 player to get an assist.

Quick first draft team

I’ve knocked together very quickly a team as a starter for 10 that I hope will give you some food for thought.  I wont go into detail over every individual transfer however there’s a few thoughts below the team on the structure.

So firstly I’ve chosen  Fabianski as the GK due to his value.  He’s benefitted from the transfer of Vorm to Spurs.  Although it needs monitoring I’m banking on him getting the no 1 spot over Tremmell.  There’s more latitude for a GK outside the top 4 challenging teams due to the save points.

As for the defence, I’ve gone for 1 premium purchase of Filipe Luis as I believe the Chelsea defence is the strongest by some distance.  Then I’ve gone for 2 players who have benefitted from changing clubs.  Thats Ben Davies coming from Swansea for the Spurs LB position.  He has competition which again needs monitoring but he was a big fee for someone to sit on the bench.  The other pick was similar in Debuchy playing for Arsenal at the cost of a Newcastle defender.

In midfield I’ve gone for the 2 big hitters who do it all, score assist and hoover up pass and tackle bonus points.  Thats of course Ramsey and YYT.  Then I’ve gone for Siggy of Swansea.  He’s an excellent attacking midfielder at a good price due to the fact that he was so low down in the Spurs pecking order.

After that I’ve gone for 2 players purely for pass and tackle bonus points.  In order to find value I’ve looked for players new to premier league  so they haven’t been priced high enough by Sky Sports fantasy football.  I’ve gone for a new CDM in Kouyate of West Ham who seems to fit the bill.  I’ve then looked for someone from the promoted teams and Danny Drinkwater of Leicester seems to fit the bill.  Both need monitoring during preseason for gametime risk.

Upfront the ability to captain Ramsey or YYT has meant that I’m able to go from RVP to Rooney and for Chelsea coverage (where they have excellent fixtures) I’ve gone for Diego Costa.  At the moment I haven’t looked at the captain rotation and how the above 4 fit in but it’s something I’ll do later on.

I hope that gives you something to think about for your Sky Sports fantasy football team.  Remember to join our Sky Sports fantasy football league.  Name: FANTASY FOOTBALL GEEK PIN 8026353
