Premier League players have begun voting for their PFA Team of the Year and, with Manchester City running away with the title, it should come as no surprise to see a blue vein running throughout the XI.

The champions elect are in contention to have players scoop up the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards, with Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane favourites for the respective award, but according to Sky Sports Fantasy Football statistics so far, the results may be very different.

If the season ended today, here’s how the Sky Sports Fantasy Football Team of the Year would shape up to be…

David De Gea (£8m) – 193 points

David De Gea continues to prove that he is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, and arguably the world. The Spaniard has already kept 16 clean sheets so far, already equalling last season’s Golden Glove winner Thibaut Courtois’ tally. De Gea has also made 99 saves in the league, the fourth highest total this season.

Kyle Walker (£9.5m) – 191 points

The two-time PFA Team of the Year member looks set to complete his hat-trick, having provided six assists, a career high, and also has helped keep 14 clean sheets for the run-away leaders. Proving the perfect compliment to Pep Guardiola’s plans, the £50m signing has racked up 33 more points than the next highest scoring right-back, Antonio Valencia, as well as Tottenham’s replacements Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier combined this season.

Nicolas Otamendi (£8.6m) – 226 points

Walker may be flourishing in the new system, but Otamendi’s development has arguably been even more impressive under Guardiola. The centre-back is the Premier League’s pass master, with 2570 successful passes, over 300 more than any other player, while helping keep 14 clean sheets and scoring four goals.

Cesar Azpilicueta (£10.3m) – 200 points.

Despite Chelsea’s struggles, Azpilicueta has continued his fantastic defensive form, with a career high six assists, the second most amongst defenders. The Spaniard has also contributed to Chelsea’s 13 clean sheets, making 53 successful tackles, the third most in the league, and has completing 1932 passes, the fifth most in the league.

Marcos Alonso (£10m) – 166 points.

Chelsea’s free-kick master completes the back four as the most attacking full-back in the league. Alonso has already scored six goals this season, matching his total from last season with seven games still to go. He averages two shots per game, and 1.1 key passes per game, highlighting his consistent offensive capabilities, while also claiming two Sky Sports Man of the Match awards.

Mohamed Salah (£9.4m) – 339 points.

Mohamed Salah and De Bruyne are in contention for the PFA Player of the Year award, but in Sky Sports Fantasy Football it’s no competition as the Egyptian would run away with the award. Salah has earned 339 Sky Sports Fantasy Football points, nearly 100 more than any other player thanks to scoring a league high 29 goals, providing nine assists and earning a league high 11 Sky Sports MOTM awards.

Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m) – 254 points.

Whilst Salah is very much the front-runner in Sky Sports Fantasy Football, it should in no way belittle De Buryne still boasts a more than credible seven goals from a deeper role, while providing a league high 16 assists. He has also completed 1963 successful passes, the fourth highest in the league, and also averages 2.5 shots and 3.2 key passes per game, while his added defensive responsibilities have seen him make 36 successful tackles and earn nine Sky Sports MOTM awards.

David Silva (£10.6m) – 208 points

The Spanish playmaker has hit eight goals and provided 11 assists in just 24 games, making it one of his most productive seasons to date at the age of 32. Those impressive tallies are underlined by averaging two shots and 2.2 key passes per game.

Christian Eriksen (£10.8m) – 183 points

Perhaps a surprising inclusion as he edges out the likes of Raheem Sterling (180 points) and Eden Hazard (174 points) to claim the final midfield spot thanks to eight goals and nine assists. Whilst there are still seven games to go, Eriksen has seemingly dipped in form since last year, having finished the 2016/17 campaign with eight goals and 15 assists with his shot and key passes per game dropping slightly.

Harry Kane (£12.9m) – 242 points.

Whilst Kane has returned to the first team, his ankle injury has seemingly put the Golden Boot race to bed as he sits five goals behind Salah. The striker has still had a fantastic season though, with 24 goals from his 67 shots on target. Kane has earned seven MOTM awards as he continues to prove the best striker in the league.

Sergio Aguero (£12.8m) – 202 points.

Could this finally be the year that Aguero makes the PFA Team of the Year? The 29-year-old has never made the line-up despite scoring at least 20 goals in five of his seasons with City, but a blistering 21 goals in 22 games this season, alongside six assists and four MOTM awards makes for strong case to edge out the likes of Roberto Firmino (176 points) and Romelu Lukaku (172 points).
