Sun Dream Team 2014/15 transfer window 2 – the best GKs and Defenders

Sun Dream Team

sun.201415logo2

Here’a my round up on the best GKs and Defenders for your Sun Dream Team in transfer window 2.  I’ve done it by teams primarily.   I’ll identify the teams most likely to get the most clean sheets to the next transfer window and concede the least goals and then look within those teams for the best option taking into account value and attacking/bonus potential.  I’ll  focus on the best defender but then compare the GK for value

Sun Dream Team 2014/15 transfer window 2 – the best GKs and Defenders

The last few years in Sun Dream Team have shown that defenders and GKs don’t perform as well as strikers and midfielders so I generally don’t over invest but generally lean towards  the value option.  CBs have also generally performed better than FBs in terms of 7 + ratings and star man ratings.  However that hasn’t been the case this season so far with 3 of the 4 defenders in the top 20 point scorers being full backs

Teams with the best defensive fixtures

Firstly here’s the teams with the best fixtures defensively to transfer window 2.  As I did for the attacking fixtures Ive looked at the teams to find the best defensive fixtures for the premier league by identifying what I think are the poorest attacking teams and then seeing how many times each team plays them either at home or away.  I’ve looked at this years goals scored and times the team has blanked and picked 7 teams as a result.  The 7 teams are  Aston Villa, Burnley, QPR, Leicester, Sunderland, WBA and Hull

Here’s the results:

Played 6 times:  Liverpool,

Played 5 timess: Spurs, Leicester, Man City, West Ham, Newcastle

Played 4 times: QPR, Burnley, C Palace, Man Utd, Everton, Hull, Swansea, Stoke, Sunderland, WBA

Played 3 times:  Chelsea, Arsenal

Played 2 times:  Southampton

Chelsea Swansea 11

Man City 12

Arsenal, Stoke City 13

Teams to focus on

Swansea

Have some good fixtures among some tough ones.  No guaranteed extra games apart from the FA Cup but an ability to keep clean sheets and not concede goals.  Ashley Williams is the standout player at £3.0m.  He’s 6th in the defensive rankings.  Fabianski at £2.5m isn’y great value in comparison.

Everton

Middle of the road fixtures.  Have started to show some defensive mettle after a poor start.  They have the advantage of the extra Europa League games.  Jagielka and Baines seem to have been selected for both the Europa League and the premier league.  Baines at £6.0m is the more attacking player than Jagielka at £4.5m.  It’s just whether you want to gamble the points difference.  Howard at £4.0m GK is no comparison

Southampton

Can the best defensive team continue their form?  Gone are the charmed fixtures.  However 3 potential extra fixtures in the Capital One and a likelihood that they will field a full strength FA Cup team means they may have 5 extra fixtures to make up for it.  The toughest decision to make if you’re not already holding. Bertrand at £2.0m is easily the best value pick.  Forster at £3.0m has a good points total but Bertrand is the pick here.

Chelsea

Another side with tricky fixtures who have in my mind have been unlucky.  Rotation is the risk for the extra Cap One games.  Ivanovic at £6.0m is the best pick for value and attacking potential here. I think despite the fixtures the clean sheets will improve.  Total rotation makes the GK option not worth it here.

Newcastle

Have shown a vast improvement recently and the fixtures aren’t bad either.  £2.5m Coloccini is the best bet here.  He’s a little injury prone but seems to be liked by Sun Dream Team marginally more than Janmaat.  Krul at £3.0m seems expensive in comparison

Arsenal

He maybe a yellow card magnet but Chambers is the value option here at £2.5m for a team that can surely only improve.  Debuchy back after Christmas is the risk.  Too much rotation in the GK position

Spurs

Impossible to predict who will play in the Europa and the premier league and some disastrous defensive play doesn’t bode well for selection in your team.  As if that wasn’t enough it’s also who to pick?  The LB position has seen clear Rose/Davies rotation.  The RB position is just a disaster area with 2 players who can play there plus Walker coming back from injury.  There’s more CBs than you can shake a stick at and all rotated.  It’s just whether you think the extra games offsett this?  Lloris is the top scoring GK but he’s expensive at £4.5m and I can see Vorm getting more gametime in the cups to dilute his points

WBA

Do have an ability to defend on their day.  Lescott at £2.0m is the best pick here.  Really liked by Sun Dream Team in a team which can get clean sheets.  He also has good goal scoring potential.  Extra games are the risk thoiugh with a number of CBs at the club.  Foster as a GK is too dear at £2.5m.

The best real cheap options

Defenders

Trippier Burnley £1.0m

There’s not alot in the £1.0m bracket worth investing in.  Trippier at least has some attacking potential and is in a team that at times can defend.  His gametime is secure

Pocognoli WBA £1.5m

Seems to be liked slightly more than his other FB Wisdom and has no Gamboa shadow over him.

Morgan Leicester £1.5m

Leicester are trying to play defensively albeit not that sucessfully.  Does seem to be liked by Sun Dream Team though

Jenkinson West Ham £1.5m

For some reason seems totally hated by Sun Dream Team.  However good attacking instincts and now West Ham’s fixtures are better than they started with so chance to turn it around.

GK’s

Heaton Burnley £1.0m

The only realistic £1.0m GK with Schmeicel seemingly a Sun Dream Team nightmare.  Don’t bank on many clean sheets though despite their start.

McGregor Hull £1.5m

Hard to know wther Steve Bruce will play the attacking Hull team or the defensive one but history shows he’s a strong defensive coach so you would think that will be his default.  Been out for sometime but could be back after the Interbnational break
