Sun Dream Team 2015/16 at Fantasy Football Geek – the basics and new rules

Sun Dream Team comes again to Fantasy Football Geek.  We’ll be entering a team and giving our views on players before the start of the season plus advice during the transfer windows.  First we’ll look at the basic rules highlighting the new rules.  They are fairly fundamental.  For those new to Sun Dream Team who play FPL we’ll try and give a comparison of the rules.  The next article will be a very first draft team.

Before we look at the rules the Sun have done away with the need to provide payment details if you just want to do one team.  You know it was a big deal when it’s highlighted on the sun dream team main picture.  They’re obviously listening to their customers because that caused alot of bitterness last season from myself as well as many others.  Firstly the rules in basic form highlighting the new rules.

The basic rules plus an over view of the changes

• You have £50m to choose 11 players in 2 formations 4-4-2 and 4-3-3.  Unlike FPL there’s no subs, no captains and no limits on the amount of players from one team
• It includes all the domestic and European Cups but only those fixtures after the start date of Sun Dream Team on 8 August.  Very different to FPL which is only the premier league
• New is the point scoring will now include assists.  Also new is that the man of the match and 7+ match ratings will be based on Opta stats not the so called Sun match reporter.  Here’s the point scoring summary which is very different to FPL
  • Star Man and 7+ Ratings: +5 points for Star Man and +3 points for a rating of seven or above out of ten will remain. However these will no longer be decided by the Sun’s Match Reporter and will instead by calculated by our stats based algorithms. Hoorah!
    Assists have arrived: +2 points 
    Each goal scored (excluding own goals): +5 points
    Hat-trick (3 or more goals): + 5 points
    Yellow card: -1 point
    Red Card Eligible Player Scores: -3 points
    NB. Midfielder Clean Sheets have now been removed from the game due to the inclusion of assists.GOALKEEPERS
    Penalty Save or Miss: +3 points
    DEFENDERS AND GOALKEEPERS
    Clean Sheet (no goals conceded) +5 points
    2 Goals Conceded: -1 point
    Each Goal Conceded Over two goals: -1 point
    PENALTY TAKERS
    Penalty Save or Miss (as defined above) (NEW): -3 points
• Transfers have seen a new rule in that there are additional emergency transfers from 2 to 5.  The 3 during the transfer windows are still the same.  You cant use the emergency during the transfer window.  Here’s the relevant dates.  The transfers and emergency transfers are very much use them or lose them.  No carry overs.  Very different to FPL which is weekly transfers.
  • You can make unlimited changes to your team up until the kick-off of the first English Premier League match on Saturday, August 8.There are four Transfer Windows during the season and you can change up to three players during each window.All transfer windows open at 9am on Tuesdays and close on Saturdays at kick-off of the first Eligible Match that day in the following four periods:
    Transfer Window 1: September 1 – 12, 2015.
    Transfer Window 2: November 10 – 21, 2015.
    Transfer Window 3: January 26 – February 6, 2016.
    Transfer Window 4: March 22 – April 2, 2016.

    BREAKING NEWS: This season we’ve increased the number of Emergency Transfers to five!

    The five ‘Emergency Transfers’ will be during the following periods (one single player transfer in each):
    Emergency Transfer Window 1: August 8 – September 1, 2015.
    Emergency Transfer Window 2: September 12 – November 10, 2015.
    Emergency Transfer Window 3: November 21, 2015 – January 26, 2016.
    Emergency Transfer Window 4: February 6 – March 22, 2016.
    Emergency Transfer Window 5: April 2 – May 28, 2016.

    These transfers will not be available during any of the main Transfer Windows.

    These transfers will also not be available after the kick off of any eligible match on any day only becoming available the following day.
