Sun Dream Team 2015/16 best defenders and goalkeepers

Goalkeepers

Unless something drastic happens in the stats there really isn’t much point in investing heavily in the goal keeper department.  They really haven’t returned well.  I think the GK choice is quite clear for Southampton GK Stekelenburg (£2.0m).  He maybe rotated for the Europa League with Davis and Gazzaniga in the team but at least he has the possibility of getting the additional games.  If you want to go as cheap as possible then Ruddy (£1.0m) of Norwich is my best choice.  If you really want to go premium I would probably go Joe Hart £5.0m of Man City given that there are all sorts of doubts around De Gea

Defenders

Chelsea are the premium defensive team in the league for me.  Ivanovic (£5.5m) is the best option.  You can save a little by going for Azpilicueta (£5.0m).

Then I think Arsenal are the next best defensive team.  If you’re swimming in cash then Koscielny (£5.5m) is undoubtedly the best pick.  Bellerin (£2.5m) is far better value but has rotation risk with Debuchy and Chambers able to play RB.

Man Utd with the addition of Schneiderlin should have more defensive resolve this season.  Also having 2 proper FBs is definitely helpful.  Darmain £3.5m is my pick due to his attacking instincts.  Shaw has these as well but probably a little more of an injury risk.

Then looking at the rest.  Southampton are definitely worth having reporesentation.  £3.5m Fonte is probably the most secure option.  However Soares £2.0m offers far better value although with Martin there is a ready made rotation replacement

Liverpool have Clyne £3.5m seems quite expensive at £3.5m but there’s very little value there.  If you’re feeling very brave the Joe Gomez £2.5m looks like he will start against Stoke but how much longevity he has is questionable.

Man City are a tricky one.  They still got the clean sheets last season but there’s such a big defensive squad that it’s hard to get the right pick.  Kompany £5.5m  is probably the least rotatable but thats because he gets alot of injury rotations anyway.  He isn’t half expensive though.  Everyone else has a body double so if I had to pick I would go with the most explosive which is definitely Kolarov £3.5m

Lastly there was last years defensive disaster in Tottenham.  Whether they are strengthened or not by Alderweireld £3.5m remains to be seen.  However they also have a decent size squad and there will be lots of rotation for the Europa League games.  Rose £2.5m is the cheap option.  There’s been rumours of Chelsea interest which would be a transfer from heaven for Sun Dream Team managers

If you want to go really cheap outside the European Competitions then here’s a few options

Francis Bournemouth (£1.0m) – A good attacking RB who should be gametime secure.  Questions about Bournemouths defensive resolve though.

R Martin Norwich (£1.0m) – Should be gametime solid and should chip in with the odd goal

Dawson WBA (£1.5m)  – Great value in the Tony Pulis defence

Souare C Palace (£1.5m) – Good attacking LB but a pretty dodgy defence
