So here’s the transfers to start
Martial out – Kane in
Depay out – Kane in (change to 4-3-3)
Ivanovic out – Smalling in
Here’s what the team looks like;
So loads of decisions to make. The only players that were definitely staying were Aguero, De Bruyne, Ozil, Bellerin, Kolarov and Stekelenburg.
That meant the 3 transfers could come from Martial, Hazard, Darmian Ivanovic and Depay.
The easy out was Depay who seems to have lost his place. Martial who was injured and changing places to the flank earlier seemed a total waste of a striker position. The last was Ivanovic who has been so dire in a defensive team that has been so bad. The injury to Valencia gave a reprieve to Darmain, as can’t see anyone else taking it although I guess Jones could be a risk. I kept Hazard although he has had some gametime risk he has the quality to come back and the 3 first mentioned seemed more of a priority.
In terms of choosing the transfers in Kane was a no brainer . In defence it was tricky. I did think of doubling up on Arsenal with Monreal or putting in Alderweireld to give a spread of risk especially given their form recently. However with some residual doubts over Darmian I went for Smalling as a cover almost if you like.
The last transfer was the most difficult. Sanchez worries me due to injury risk and words from Wenger about rest and a winter break. However he is absolutely explosive and Wenger has said this stuff before and not really followed through. Coupling him with Aguero exacerbates the problem. I would have liked a Liverpool player but too much uncertainty over Benteke and injury risk. Lukaku was a serious consideration and the closest I got to not putting in Sanchez. However Sanchez it is unless I change my mind tomorrow
