Sun dream team 2016/17 comes to FFGeek

Sun Dream Team

The opening of the Sun Dream Team 2016/17 site sees the return of it to fantasy football geek.  We’ll be covering it this season as we have before.  Here we run through the rules and the changes which this season are fairly significant.  We’ll give you a first draft team too plus some narrative to go with it

The rules

For the life of me I can’t find a full list of the rules for Sun Dream Team 2016/17 although everywhere I look there’s rules for last season and the Euro’s.  On that basis I’m assuming it’s the same as last season except for 3 main changes

So there are 3 major changes to Sun Dream Team this season.  The first is that there are now 3 transfers per calender month and the 2nd is that player prices will now vary with performance.  The 3rd is the rating systems.

Price variation

The Sun Dream Team 2016/17 has added price variation to the rules.  Although it’s a bit vague reading this below sounds like were talking about the possibility of serious price changes if a player doesn’t score according to expectations. That means that playing the value game with your 3 transfers per month maybe a vital tactic. It doesn’t say what will happen with injuries unfortunately

Here’s what Sun Dream Team 2016/17 says:

We’ve introduced variable player pricing which means if a player starts performing above expectations then his price will go up.
Equally if a player is underperforming then expect his price to drop like the pound after Brexit.
If we had implemented this system last season then stars like Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy would have skyrocketed in price while flops like Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Hazard would have plummeted. For example, if you pick Jay Rodriguez (2.0m) and he rattles in six goals in his first six games then his price will probably rise to around £3.5/4m.
But he’ll still only be taking up £2.0m of your budget, because you were smart and knew the Saints forward had it in him.
Other gaffers hopping on the bandwagon will have to fork out the £3.5/4m if they want in on the points-scoring action.
We should note that this system is based on expectation.
Sergio Aguero already costs £8.0m because we’re used to him scoring a lot of goals.
So if he bags a brace one weekend and another two weeks later, don’t expect his price to rise too much if at all as that is simply Aguero performing in accordance with the high standards he’s set for himself.
However if he goes through a dry spell then you’ll see his price drop quicker than most.

Ratings

The football analysis site Whoscored will be doing ratings and starman which should make it more equal to what we saw with our eyes

Transfers

So no more transfers.  Again here’s what Sun Dream Team 2016/17 says:

1 We’ve removed the transfer windows

Yep, that’s right – the four chances you had to make transfers throughout the course of the season are now a thing of the past.
Instead, we’ve brought in a monthly transfer allowance, allowing you to make three transfers per month.

2 When can you use them?

You’ll get three transfers on the first of every month.
But if you haven’t used them by the end of the month, you’ll lose them.
So you can’t stockpile them then make seven or eight transfers in one go.
This season transfers will take effect immediately – meaning transferred in players will score from their next match.
You’ll get three transfers for August as well, even though it’s not a full month.
Just because we’re generous like that.
thanks spongebob squarepants thank you muscles thx

3 Transferring players during the Game Week

Provided the player you are transferring in or out’s club hasn’t already played in that Game Week, you’ll be able to transfer them out.
This means you won’t be able to cheat the system and have some weeks where you’ll have 12 or 13 players scoring points.
It’s worth noting as well that Game Weeks run Monday to Sunday.
That’s about all you need to know
Now just the small matter of making the right transfers at the right times…

So what does this mean?

The price variation seems to be the main unknown.  It seems like it could be drastic and will need to be a major focus of our attention.  I haven’t really digested it yet but it seems like playing the fixtures and recogising undervalued players maybe key.  Now there is the possibility that with key players like Aguero you just know he will come right and hold your nerve during any lean spell but injuries and no bench make this a difficult thing to do.

So here’s a first draft team

A very quick one and one that needs more thought on the price variation.  Any way here it is.

sun...draftTeam1

So I’ve started with Aguero and Mkhitaryan as I think they will be the 2 attacking cornerstones of my team.  I’ve played to the Europa League and Champions league qualifiers with Cresswell for West Ham.  I would go for Payet if I know when he will return after his Euro’s exertions.  Also a striker purchased for West Ham may also effect my selection in their direction.  Silva is the extra Man City player for their UCL qualifiers although he is risky due to a price drop risk.  Batshuayi is someone who could grow in price given his value if he starts.  The defence has the Manchester connection.  Baines is another potential value grower and Foster one of the best cheap GKs.

We’ll be doing the usual articles focusing on players and fixtures before the season starts.
