Sun Dream Team player selection tips – An updated FFGeek team

So this is an update on my last FFGeek team article

It’s also worth reading my stats article and the rules article as a refresher.  Our Sun Pundit and previous winner of the FFGeek league Simon Rowley has also done an article on his team

Overall structure

Forwards for me is where you need to invest your cash so there’s only 1 formation and that’s 4-3-3 you should be using.

In terms of the player I’ve emphasised the top 6 teams who have European Competitions as those I’m targeting

The GK

With Everton playing a couple of Europa League qualifiers early on against Hajduk Split and Pickford playing in the game last week it signalled to me that maybe he will play more than I expected in the Europa League.  He’s a reasonable price so gets the nod for me.  I previously had Hennessey as the cheapest possible filler in my last draft.

The defence

Again I’ve looked for players in the top 7 teams with European competition for extra games.  I’ve concentrated on potential wing backs for the additional attacking returns.  However,  the most noticeable one in Marcos Alonso isn’t in the team due to his £5.5m price tag and Chelsea’s early fixtures. After the opening game could be better

However I’ve started off with a non wing back.  Matip stays as the most reliable pick in the Liverpool defence which has to play extra games in Champions League qualifiers. Clyne may not be fit.  I would be monitoring Trent Alexander Arnold if he existed in Sun Dream Team

Keiran Trippier comes in for Ben Davies who was in my last draft.  Kyle Walkers sale opens up a good cheap avenue there.

Kyle Walker makes it into the team himself as part of a City team which has prospered in pre-season and has a few good premier league fixtures to start.  He replaces Holgate from my first draft team.  Holgate came back late to Everton due to the Euro U21s and hasn’t featured in the Europa League qualifiers.  In fact Tom Davies played RWB in the 2nd fixture

Lastly Valencia got the nod over Lindelof in my first draft team.  Lindelof has had a less than perfect pre-season so I’ve continued the potential wing back policy with Valencia.  It was correctly pointed out to me that Valencia was a midfielder last season so his PPG was poor which I hadn’t remembered.

No room for Kolasinac who is the Arsenal wing back.  It means that despite my policy the 2 pretty much guaranteed wing backs in Alonso and Kolasinac aren’t in the team.  Kolasinac lost out to Walker

Midfield

Again I’ve tried to get a spread of the top 7 teams.

While Coutinho at £6m is definitely my first choice Liverpool midfielder Salah is just such excellent value and coupled with good preseason form was just too tempting.

De Bruyne as the creative hub of the Man City team was a no brainer and replaced Sane who looks to have some positional and gametime challenges

Willian who takes over from Ozil in my original draft as at least a short term option with Hazard injured

Forwards

Sandro Ramirez looked lively for Everton in the Europa League qualifiers.  Although Everton hardly looked full of goals if he can hold his place as the CF then he is great value.  He takes over Jesus from my earlier draft.  He’s one of the last players I would want to lose and I like investing big in the forward positions but Sandro looks  a good early gamble.

Kane and Lukaku stay from my earlier draft and barring injury won’t be going anywhere.  More articles to come hopefully tomorrow
