One of the unfortunate facts of fantasy football is that if you don’t have the high ownership players and they score your ranking will seriously suffer. Here we look at the 7 players with over 30% ownership and give a view on how essential they are to own.

Here’s the 7 players with over 30% ownership which is my rule of theumb for being concerned if you don’t own them. This article just tries to make an assessment on each player and the risk of not owning them if you choose to do so. There’s only some brief commentary but in my articles on the best players in various positions you’ll find more information
Ramsey (44.6% ownership)
If you’re non plussed about not owning Ramsey then you’re probably also non plussed about crossing the M25 at 8am on a Monday morning. Both are very dangerous activities not to be taken lightly. The premier league fixtures could be better but the Champions League group is ok. He’s started the season like last season and looks ominous. There are others that the Sun Dream Team seems to like more but to me he’s essential
Diego Costa (40.1% ownership)
This is another player who’s started the season absolutely on fire. He’s going through another injury scare but again given his start he would be a very dangerous player not to own. Also only really has Remy as a back up who will play the domestic cups but Costa seems too important for Mourinho to rotate unless absolutely necessary.
Sturridge (38.8% ownership)
The one advantage you have in not owning Sturridge is that while he’s a consistent scorer he’s not a big scorer of multiple goals in games. However given the fixtures and the Champions League Group he really has the potential to do a lot of damage. Also without Suarez in the team Sturridge has the potential to significantly increase his Star Man awards. He’s going through an injury scare though which needs monitoring this week
Rooney (34.9%)
Not in the Champions League or the Capital One Cup and possibly going to move back to playing behind RVP and Falcao. In that context he looks one of the less risky options not to own. Also has a number of other players to compete with for the Star Man awards. Does have very good fixtures in the premier league though and if anyone knows how to punish the lower placed teams it’s Rooney
Sterling (33.3%)
Has started in great form with 2 goals in the opening 3 games. Should also play centrally behind Balotelli and Sturridge which should give him a number of options for scoring. Has fantastic fixtures in the Champions League and the Premier League and could do major damage if you don’t own him.
Curtis Davies (30.1%)
Defenders generally have less potential to hurt you than midfielders as they obviously score less and don’t hog the Star Man awards as much. Davies I imagine was bought with the Europa League and his great numbers last year in mind. However out of the Europa League and with only 8 points from 4 games so far this season he looks like far less a risk to not own
Fabregas (30.1%)
An interesting one this. The one thing holding me back is that he plays fairly deep and is more of a creative player than a scorer and in the 11 goals scored by Chelsea in the opening 3 games he hasn’t scored himself. That’s probably the thing you would hang your hat on in not owning him as he seems liked by Sun Dream Team given his ratings to date. If he can start finding the net it could be risky.
