Sun Dream Team transfer window 1 tips – analysing the top 20 point scorers to date

Here is the table of the top 20 point scorers from the Sun Dream Team site.  It’s worth mentioning though that we are only 4 premier league games in so it’s difficult to take any long term trends from but worth looking at just to see what the data shows.  Below we analyse the top 20 in various ways:

Analysed by poisition

8/20 are strikers

6/20 are defenders (3 are CBs 3 are FBs )

5/20 are midfielders

2/20 are GKs

The strange start to the season which has seen some of the bigger teams such as Arsenal, Man Utd (at least in the premier league) and Liverpool struggle to score while Man Utd, Liverpool and Man City have all got at least 3 clean sheets has meant the top 20 has seen more defenders that midfielders for the first time.  The ratio of overall attacking players to defending players of 12 compared to 8 is lower than usual.  Interestingly though the top 5 point scorers are all strikers although Sinclair, Defoe and Lukaku had big Capital One boosts and Rooney a Europa League boost.

Analysed by teams in European competitions

A little premature to analyse given that only Man Utd and Southampton have played in European competitions.

6 players are from Man Utd (Rooney, Smalling, Blind, Romero, Depay, Shaw)

1 player from Southampton (Pelle)

After that only Man City of the European competition teams have any players in the top 20.  They have 5.  These are Kompany, Kolarov, YYT, Sagna and Hart

None of the other teams involved in European competitions are in the top 20.  The competitions will start proper though in the next phase of Sun Dream Team.

Analysed by team

Interestingly apart from Man Utd (6) and Man City (5)  no other team has more than 1 player in the top 20.  It’s hard to categorise those 9 players either by type of player, position or importance to team. So for example not all are central players, not all have set pieces etc.  The new assists points rule doesn’t seem to have changed anything to date.  It’s just a function of scoring to date in the main.

So what does this mean?

The fact that there’s only been 4 games means it’s hard to take any long term trends from it.  However I dont think it changes from my basic philiosophy that concentrating on attacking players from teams in European competition in the first 2 phases of Sun Dream Team as these teams play the most games and will generally be the most successful.  Rotation is the difficulty.  Team specific I think having Man City coverage in your team will be vital

Next we’ll look at the teams with the best fixtures in the next phase of Sun Dream Team
