Sun Dream Team transfer window 2 – Teams with the best fixtures to the next transfer window

Sun Dream Team

sun.TW2logo

One of the factors to take into account in Sun Dream Team transfer window 2 is future fixtures. We’ll look at again here on 3 levels. Which teams will play European competitions and therefore have extra fixtures.  Secondly which teams have the easiest premier league games to transfer window 3 which opens on January 27. The third part is the Capital One Cup/FA Cup and any implications of that.  This transfer window closes on the 22 November and the games that count are to the 3rd transfer window opens on the 27 January .   That’s where we’ll focus to.  Remember you have 3 transfers and can change your transfers up to the 22nd November if you change your mind.  You may also have your first emergency transfer which goes to January 5th.  There’s one more  emergency transfer available after that which is available to the end of the season

Sun Dream Team transfer window 2 – Teams with the best fixtures to the next transfer window

We’ll go though the different competitions to show you who’s involved and their fixtures.

Which competitions involve which teams?

Up to transfer window 2 there are the following competitions ongoing.  There will be a seperate section on each below:

1. The premier league

2. The Europa League ( Everton, Tottenham)

3. The Champions League (Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal).  Man City and Liverpool have qualification risk

4. The Capital One Cup. (Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle, Liverpool, Southampton)

5.  The FA Cup (The third and 4th round will be played before TW3 opens)  The draw for the 3rd round will be after the 2nd round in December

We’ll look at the competitions and teams in turn and how they affect the time up to transfer window 3

The premier league

Up to the closing of transfer window 3 includes 12 further premier league game weeks.  Interestingly 1 of the rounds is in the middle of trasnfer window 3.  I’m assuming that fixture counts as part of this series of fixtures

As I did prior prior to transfer window 2 I’ll look to see who has the best fixtures of the Premier league games.  I’ve looked at it in a very rough and ready way by picking what I think will be the worst 6 defensive teams in the league. I’ve then ranked the teams that play the most games against those teams  at home.   It’s very subjective and simplistic but it gives a rough and ready guide. Remember it ranks the teams from an attacking point of view.

Here’s the 6 teams:  C Palace, Sunderland, Villa,  QPR, Burnley and Leicester

Teams who play 3 of the above teams at home:   Aston Villa, Burnley, Spurs, Man City, Swansea, Newcastle, QPR

Teams who play 2 of the above teams at home:  Liverpool, Leicester, Arsenal

Teams who play 1 of the above teams at home:  Man Utd, Everton, West Ham, Hull, Sunderland, WBA

Teams who play 0 of the above teams at home:  Chelsea, Southampton

So good for Man City and Spurs from the teams in European competitions.  Not so great for Everton and Chelsea.  It’s worth focusing on Southampton who have a number of players in the top 20.  Below are their next 12 fixtures.  You’ll see that they are very difficult.  Anyone thinking of piling in to the Southampton assets should go in with their eyes open.

Southamptons premier league fixtures to transfer window 3

Aston Villa (A)
Man City (H)
Arsenal (A)
Man Utd (H)
Burnley (A)
Everton (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Chelsea (H)
Arsenal (H)
Man Utd (A)
Newcastle (A)
Swansea (H)

The Europa League

Fixture wise the Europa League is very tempting.  Harry Kanes goals against ordinary opposition is testament to that.  Finding players who will play in the premier league and the Europa League is the trick.  That will be one part in our player recommendations.

There’s only 2 group games in this transfer window.  The knockoputs after that are in the next phase

Spurs games:  Partizan Home, Besiktas Away

Everton games:  Wolsburg Away, Krasnador home

So 2 tricky games for Everton and 1 tricky one for Spurs

Both teams will qualify which could mean even more rotation for the last game.

With only 2 games added to the 12 premier league games it won’t have the additional points potential of the previous phase

The Champions League

Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea all have 2 Group fixtures before transfer window 3.  The knockpouts are in the next phase of Sun Dream Team

Here’s the fixtures:

Liverpool:  Ludogorets A, Basel H

Arsenal:  Dortmund H, Galatasaray A

Man City:  Bayern H, Roma A

Chelsea:  Schalke A, Sporting H

Chelsea look certain to qualify.  Arsenal are likely to qualify.  Man City ahve a lot of work to do but Liverpool look unlikely to progress.

The Capital One Cup

For the teams involved in European competitions player rotation will be significant. The teams that will take it seriously will be teams that aren’t in Europe and have no relegation worries.  Here’s the quarter finals of the Capital One

Derby County v Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United
Bournemouth v Liverpool
Sheffield United v Southampton
Hard to see Chelsea playing anything other than a reserve team even at this stage.  The Champions League ands the premier league as a priority and the laege squad means it’s hard to see them rolling out a full team.  Spurs will probably also rotate given the size of the squad.  Liverpool could play a full team given they are likely to be out of Europe.  Southampton I expect will play a full team.

The 2 legged semis are before TW3 on the 19th and 26th January.  You have to believe thats 2 extra fixtures for Chelsea, Liverpool and Southampton

The FA Cup

Similar principles apply.  Those not in Europe and not facing any relegation issues will probably field full teams.  Thats teams like Southampton, Swansea, West Ham, Stoke and Newcastle.  Man Utd are in a similar position but may focus on the Champions League if still in contention.

There are 2 rounds before transfer window 3.  The 3rd round on the 3rd of January and the 4th on the 24th of January.

Summary and the best teams:

This is going to be a very interesting phase before transfer window 3.  Not an easy one at all and very open.  With only 2 European games and 12 premier league games the influence of the European competitions is reducing.  The Capital One faces great potential for Southampton in particular but a Liverpool out of Europe may also focus on it.

So here’s some teams to focus on:

Southampton

Terrible premier league fixtures but likely to have 3 extra fixtures in the Capital One and likely to take the FA Cup seriously with 2 extra games potentially.  Tadic and Pelle are the attacking options here

Liverpool

A little scrutiny of the fixtures sees Liverpools overall fixtures as being good.  The Champiuons League offers 2 extra games and then once the inevitable elimination will the opportunity of a trophy  see a focus on the Capital One with potentially 3 extra games.

 Spurs

Reasonable fixtures, Europa League qualification, and a good chance of ptogression in the Capital One gives Spurs a great chance of a number of extra games.  A large squad though gives rotation headaches.  Lamela, Chadli and Eriksen are the focus.  If Harry Kane could nail the forward spot he could become an interesting prospect.

That’s it.  I’ll now focus on player recommendations
