Sun Dream Team transfer window 2 tips – analysing the top 20 point scorers to date

Here is the table of the top 20 point scorers from the Sun Dream Team site.  In order to fit it in I’ve chopped off the headings but it’s the last 2 columns which show value and points that matter.

Here’s the table:

Sun.TW2top20pointsScorers

Analysed by position

1/20 are Goalkeepers

4/20 are Defenders

8/20 are Midfielders

7/20 are Strikers

Interestingly 4 out of the top 5 are strikers.  After transfer window 1 dealt some surprises we are now back to normal service with attacking players dominating trhe top 20 players so far in the points rankings.  This just reinforces that the important decisions and the priority in spending and allocating funds should be on the attacking players.

Analysed by the teams in European competitions

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City are in the Champions League.  Tottenham and Everton are in the Europa League

7/20 are from teams in the Champions League (The top 4 players are all Champions league players)

5/20 are from Tottenham and Everton

Interestingly out of the remaining 8 players 4 are from Southampton.  The others are Siggurdson, Berahino, Austin and Nathan Dyer.

So this year the poor form of the English Champions League teams has seen a drop in the domination of these players.  Last year at the seasons end 16/20 of the top point scorers were from the European competing teams.  That was with Suarez and Sturridge being 2 of the 4 players who weren’t in the European competitions. So we have a fundamentally different season than last.  This will probably change even more if Man City and Liverpool don’t get through the Champions League.  The Europa League has delivered 5 players despite a fear of rotation.  Harry Kane is the main beneficiary who hasn’t played any material games in the premier league.  Everton who have a reasonably tricky group haven’t rotated  as much as expected and Jagielka and Baines have been the main beneficiaries.

 By Team

Chelsea have 4 players, Southampton have 4, Spurs have 3, Everton have 2 and Swansea have 2.

Interestingly Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal only have 1.   It does seem possible that you can pick teams with good form and fixtures and at least double up and profit from that.

By type of player

3/4 Defenders are Full backs. 2 are from Southampton and all 3 FBs are very attack minded.  I’m not sure from this we can take the fact that we should go for FBs not CBs.

Apart from Matic all the midfielders are forward thinking attacking midfielders

Summary

  • Midfielders and strikers are the priority positions for your cash
  • The dominace of players in European competitions has diminished from last season and could reduce further if Man City and Liverpool are eliminated
  • 3 teams (Chelsea, Southampton and Spurs) have 11 of the top 20 which shows that you can double or triple up players from 1 team with good form and fixtures
  • Attacking full backs and attacking midfielders seem to have performed best

Thats it.  On to the best fixtures next
